Devs - Looking ahead to Winter 2015

Yeah, I know, we've not even finished the current Winter Event yet.

At the moment, I have four characters in game, and by the end of the day, they will each have all three of the Breen Ships. Naturally I purchased one ship of each with three characters, then (once it was fixed) used the discount to get all three on all four characters.

By the time this event ends, one of my characters is going to have (roughly) 1400-1500 pictures ready for next year, and the other three characters are going to have roughly 400-500 pictures ready for next year. Obviously I'll just be able to use the character with the 1400-1500 to grab the new ship as soon as it's released, and then if I continue to run the race and total 1000 pictures per character, I'm set up straight for the next four years (assuming the game/event lasts that long).

You can't increase the cost of Winter Ships because that'll prove problematic for new players, or for people with one (or maybe two?) characters. You can't lock the discount for the very same reason. Isn't there anything else we could use these pictures for?

40 Pictures in exchange for 1000 Dilithium?
40 Pictures in exchange for 100 Marks (of your choice)?
1000 Pictures for 10 Lock Box Keys?
etc

Edit:
1000 Pictures in exchange for previous anniversary ships (such as the Odyssey, BortaS, Ambassador etc)

    Careful what you tell Cryptic what they can/'t do for the sake of the players. Who knows? Maybe they'll decide running the event on more than one toon is an exploit...

    Regardless, I agree, it'd be nice to have other ways to spend the pics, but aren't your conversion rates a little high?

    Devs are tasked with but one purpose. Monetize EVERYTHING. So I would expect dil costs for all 2015 Winter events...

    It would be great if we had alternate Ways to ge t the pics.

    THe Race is easy enough but it takes 25 Days. One PC or Server Problem, Vacation or anything else during that time and you are in trouble getting the Pics.

    So i would like if we could get them wth Lobi or Dilithium. And 1000 Dilly for 40 Pics seems to be a fair price. For newbies below lvl 50 its hard enough to get 1000 pics and above lvl 50, with cheap get it will be 3 advanced STFs so the price is okay.

    And i would love it if there was a way to get them with marks. Omega marks or fleet marks.

    But that would be no different than getting the with dilly since you can get Dilly by converting marks

    The pictures (and pearls) are time-gated for a very simple reason: they want you logging in every single day for a month, even if only for a little while (per alt, which can turn into a long while). This shows up nicely on their metrics.

    I'll have to verify this, but can't we already get them with Lobi? I know for a fact that when the event first ran (so three years ago) we were able to use Lobi to acquire additional pictures.

    Like how you had to play Tides Of Ice to unlock the Warp Core & Singularity, how about having the Breen Energy Dissipater instead and it becoming a Universal Console...it was supposed to have been able installed on all Dominion ships, after all.

    I don't want to change my ship, I like it, I just want to add great things to it!

    I'd like to see a daily OPTION for 3 different types of mission. leave the race for one of them, but have an endurance test for ye olde tanke and a kill x in y time for the dpsers.

    also, I'd like to see something along the lines of a 'storming the castle' version of tides of ice. (while I found the race annoying at best, I really liked Tides, aside from the reward bug early on.)

    I'd also like to see some more stuff that can be used outside of the event, and boots that INCREASE traction--gimme some of those cleats for my ice marathon.....

    You grind for the autographs so you don't have to grind next event. My account is set up so I don't have to grind for another autograph or pearl until 2017 and I get the ships on the first day they come out without spending a single Lobi.

    Since the pics stacking quantities of 999, I banked away 960 today, and won't run any more on that toon til December. I figure I'll still have the ship on the first day but I won't have that inventory slot filled up by one darn pic all year long. I have a couple other toons who have 800 pics apiece, I could top them off and be set a couple more years, but I think I'm pretty happy to be done with ice racing for now. I might even miss it by next event. Maybe.

    Of course, my fear is if their metrics show that everyone is hoarding pics, what's to stop them from raising the price, or worse: changing the currency?
