So about joysticks...

martakurillmartakurill Member Posts: 456 Arc User
I had been debating picking up a joystick for use in space combat...looks like it might be helpful with all of the mappable buttons and all. Before I do, two questions....

How well do joysticks work in STO, if at all?

Is there a specific, inexpensive one that the community recommends?

Thanks!

This is a good question... I've also been considering trying one out but would like some insights from players that use them before I shell out the cash :)

Judging by Insurrection, I'd say get a Gravis Thunderbird ;)

(Disclaimer: This is a just a joke, and not a particularly funny one at that.)

According to sto's support letters they will send you if u have any issues sto does not support any joy stick. But the basic left right up down work somtimes. most every big patch will totaly mess this up for about 2 months- 3 weeks till they fix it. Logitec one work fine and can be picked up for like 30- 39 bnucks when the game is working with them. Pinnical game profiler is pay to own program that will make them work even when the basic sto game fails in the ussage. Takes a bit to get it working but it does work. Having a joy stick makes the game a lot more immetrsive. But keep in mind if u send in a support ticket u will get a we dont support them_joystick letter from support that even has a link to the Pinnical site. ITs a shame every patch messes them up. We even tell sto on the beta forms about this.

Sticks work just fine as long as you are using a separate program to interface them with the game. Something along the lines of Total Game Control, or the like. The issue of losing the ability to use joysticks post patch is bypassed with one of these programs as they do not use the games system to connect the stick, and instead consider the stick as alternate keyboard entry.

I myself love the Total Game Control program, however for those of you using Win8, it does not work for that OS.

For mine I just used the stick for basic ship commands. Obviously pitch, and throttle, but I also did a bind for basic weapons fire. And yeah stick in left mouse in right for skills.

Picked up a joystick for Elite: Dangerous. I'll have to try it here and see what I can do with the bindings.

If anyone has a Thrustmaster T-flight X up and running and wants to throw a few hints this way it would be appreciated.
