As a server manager for 10+ years I can tell you, it's not good to log into anything during a maintenance cycle. Not until everything has green lights, even if it 'seems' okay.
As a server manager for 25+ years I can say... This is a game, games are meant to be fun, if having fun means beating on the unready server and possibly having my cartoon character's head explode, I'm doing it.

Hey we're all server managers by the look of it. Seriously though, some people do just forget to flick a switch somewhere at times. Not saying that is the case here, just the times maintenance is done for hours and you still get a red light on launcher.
If you've come to the forums to complain about the AFK system, it's known to be bugged at the moment.
The cause was found and they needed to boot everyone to do fixes. Testing is underway and we're expected to be back up shortly.
Someone needs to put this guy in charge already.
Edit: seriously, i've had $150 quarrels that customer service was less helpful about. And here we are bashing cryptic half the time and he soldiers on giving us info. Props buddy.
If they can just keep the servers down for another 6 hours and 35 minutes...we might be free! Well, on the East Coast...folks to the West will have to wait longer.
