My Suggestions for Next Years Winter Event

Cryptic, please give us other mini games to do to earn Q's photos besides "The Fastest Game on Ice".
I would love for a Cryptic Dev to run this 25 times in a row and explain to me how fun it was. It's not fun, it's a chore. Yes, I know, free ship. But who cares, the game needs to be fun no matter what you're trying to get. This was actually the first event ship I've gotten in two years and have avoided it previously because I find the grind so tedious. The only reason I decided to bite the bullet and do it this time around was for the T6 Carrier, which is A. a free T6 ship and B. a carrier which I love.

Please fix the bug that auto fails the mission if more than one player tries to run the race at the same time in the same instance. And last thing I'll mention about the race is, shouldn't the NPC you're racing against have the same physics apply to it that the players does? They run around the track perfectly and there is little room for any error. I get a head start in the beginning which seems to not be WAI and from lag in the game. If the NPC gets ahead of you by almost any amount there is no way for you to catch up.
Give us a funner race, add a "speed boost" option that can be used once or something like that, give us more than one track layout. Variety is the spice of life.

The snowmen throwing snowballs at everyone. Getting knocked down while just trying to get from the gate to the gazebo is really annoying. Please get rid of the snowmen around the gazebo and around the starting point for the race.

Please consider making these winter events feel more like Trek and have a little more basis in reality. As they are now, they just look childish and silly. They feel like they could be taken out of any generic MMO out there and not at all fitting in the Trek universe. Yes, all of you will say "there were lots of silly Trek episodes". I know, those are the ones I hit "skip" button on. I'm not a grinch, not even that old (34 years old) but I would like to have something more mature and realistic than what we're getting now with the gingerbread man pets and the snow ball launchers and fat Breen.

    Really?

IMO I'm slow in getting anything done in-game BUT still it only takes me 25min for 3 toons per day + the pie eating contest....

And you feel this is a grind? sorry to burst your bubble but you have no clue what grind IS, this was not even close...

    repetitive? sure
    grind? no

I do agree about the race start glich being annoying bat that's about it, sorry but they way I can read your post, it seams like you want everything to be handed to you with 5% effort...

Aside from race start glich, only problem I found with event is the TRIBBLE bug for ship discount, IMO it should of been fixed HOURS after first report was issues, that part falls on Cryptic.

I think people don't live to be forced to be logged in daily (and doing the same thing each time). I don't think that will change, however.

    ---

I want some more stuff to do with ice skating. May a race or a parcour, figure skating. Something.

There are two things I want for next years winter event.

Some kind of space event. Maybe we have to defend Santa or something like that I don't know.

    MAKE IT WORK!

There just seems to be no incentive to actually fix bugs and make things work.

I agree. I dislike the "Mario Brothers Ice level" game, and it's not worth it to do yet another thing I dislike to grind for a reward. There seems to be enough of that. I'd settle for making the photos able to be put on the exchange.

If not, I don't get the ship(s), which I can totally deal with. FYI, I'm not a fan of any of the Mario Brothers minigames for the events (Flying Mario for summer!), which is why I don't participate in the summer or winter events at all.

I'd understand why there would be no change (after all, it seems like most don't mind the stuff), but I'd like something that I won't avoid to go on during these events. Especially for something like a ship.

Some things I would like to see next year:

    1. A fire pit of some kind. You really cannot have people hang around in the cold and not have some place for them to warm up.:)

2.Instead of the holographic ornament to put in the Starbase , I would like to see a big Christmas tree made unlockable. I really don't understand why you can have EVERYTHING else holiday related in this game but a tree.

Trees' are apparently too evil or something because I see this issue in more than a few games.

The winter event is pretty fun, but alternative options to capture the Q photos would be nice.

It would be really cool if they could add a more serious ground based mission to earn stuff. A fight in the snow (not against snowmen) would be fun.

Maybe some Andorian insurrectionists, or the like. Even an alien hunt like The Thing would be a welcome diversion.

After a few years, they'd have a nice little collection to choose from.

You should be able to earn them through all content...I HATE that game, it's frustrating AND it's boring.

I do have to admit that the fastest game on ice is my least favorite of any of the miniquests I've tried out since I first started playing this game.

When first starting this winter event, I ran all of my alts through Fastest Game on Ice.
Without realizing that I had to have certain traits slotted it took me up to 10 tries on each alt to get through the dang thing once.
It wasn't so bad once I figured out what needed to be slotted, but 'fun' isn't the word I'd use to describe this particular challenge.

I agree that if there were alternative options for getting the photos it would be better: multiple options are always better than single means of achieving a goal.

The most obvious alternative should be the ability to trade in the non-photo winter trade items for photos. another solution would be to offer us one of 2 or 3 different miniquests to complete per day. even with multiple options, most players will still gravitate to the 'easiest' of the options, but what is 'easy' for one type of player may be difficult for another.

and I remain frustrated that the reduced price chel gret and raider havn't unlocked on my alts although I've slotted the ships on the alts that paid full photo price for the prospective ship.

Overall though, I have really enjoyed this winter event. Tides of Ice was excellent, lots of fun, even with the reward bug. I really like the new kit mods in addition to the event only weapons, the new cores and all the other great stuff the devs have worked so hard to produce. (Thx guys, though many of us whine, we still appreciate all your hard work.)

I look forward to next years winter event. could we maybe get some boots that Improve traction? or how about a tides of ice style "Storming the Castle" mini?

I have no problem with the fastest game on ice race, sure it can be tricky sometimes but if an old crinkly like me can do it then anyone should be able to do it.
sure the two man start bug can be annoying but it doesn't happen often enough to make it a bother and there are far more important bugs in the game that need fixing before worrying about this minor inconvenience.
there are a lot of how toos on the web and even vids on youtube for anyone who is not sure of the tactics involved.

the epohh tag race is far more bothersome its vastly harder to win a race when competing against real players and with only a few races an hour far more annoying if you happen to accidentally slip out of bounds.
I can do the ship race on all of my toons in 15-20 minutes no problem, it can take me up to 90 minutes or sometimes longer to get enough tags to start the epohh raising missions on just one character.

what I would like with the ship rep project is an option to trade in the q pictures for choice marks or dilithium or something else useful, with the alt friendly system they have now as it stands I have enough pictures saved to get the ship on the first day on all of my characters for the next 3 years.
I would like to have a reason to make it worth doing the ship races above just getting the ship, a little like how they do with the crystaline entity and mirror events.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

    Apparently.

I can understand to some extent. Admittedly, I had trouble in the beginning, the first year we had the event. But that was just due to getting used to the physics and the layout of the track. Now, not only can I regularly beat my opponent, but I outrun the opponent of the player ahead of me as well. A few times, I've even outrun the player ahead of me.

I don't use any special equipment, nor an special traits. It's just practice and skill. Learn the course and where it's safe to cut corners, anticipate turns and how far you'll slide, know where the snow patches are to help stop you quickly, and develop any other techniques that can help you stay in control. The race really isn't that difficult if you take the time to practice at it. And there doesn't need to be another event to provide the Q pics.

As for the silliness of Winter Wonderland, it's supposed to be. It's been fabricated by Q. It's not meant to be a reality or taken to be as such.

The only problem that I would like to see fixed is the queing for the race, where another player can basically steal your spot from you by waving right after you, thereby DQ'ing you. Yes, you can can go back and restart, but it's none the less mildly annoying. Even so, I've learned to live with it.

Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but I'm not going to sugar-coat it...you don't need any certain traits slotted to beat this. You're just really, really bad at it.

No joke, you can literally beat the race, with plenty of time to spare, by walking. You don't even have to sprint.

I don't think that's actually how it works. AFAIK what actually happens is that you hit the button at close enough to the same time that the server can't tell the difference. You see it as if you were first since any action you take is drawn immediately. The actions taken by others you don't see until it's bounced around the server.

I'd really like to see a mission in Q's Winter Wonderland that would involve an away team. I mean, one's crew should enjoy in the adventure and fun too along with their captain. ;)

Nope. Whoever goes first has their opponent spawned, and gets the countdown, but is immediately disqualified. Whoever goes last, gets ported to the race, and has no opponent/root at the start of the mission.

So, people wait until they see someone wave, and then immediately hit F and they will be the ones to get the race.

It's why I've seen crowds of 6-10 people standing around the race coordinator and no one starting their race, because all of them know that if they try to start their race it will be stolen from them, so they are all waiting to steal from whoever runs it.

No, it does work that way. As described below.

^This is exactly what happens. Now, I'll wait and let people go that are there before me, because it's the right thing to do. But if someone runs up behind me and I can tell that they are attempting to "steal" my spot to go next, then I'll let them try and then "second wave" them instead. ;) But this could all be solved if they could just fix it. To be honest, though, the biggest annoyance is hearing people complain about it in chat.

As for a Tree unlock they probably try to avoid that because it could offend some people that play this game. Now before people start screaming about "War on Christmas" remember there are plenty of holiday's during the Winter/Summer season (depending on what hemisphere you are in)

If the sight of a tree in a video game freaks you out so much that you just can't stand to play it, well, you have bigger issues.
