The best? Beside Delta Rising? Argala, best mission ever and I love it.

The worst? Everything that was before Delta Rising.

The best? Same as 2013. The people I play with.

The worst? I fear that might not have happened yet. There are still a couple more days left of 2014. LOL
Wow. There is a new KDF Science ship. I'll be!

Best: Season 9 and its focus on quality (bugfixes, finally PvP, the Featured Ep, etc). I regret not playing more often when Season 9 was out.

Worst: DR and what it did to the whole game.

Crafting, definitely the worst. Definitely the one thing that ultimately pissed me off this year. A stupid lottery system that takes a ridiculous time to level and was designed specifically with revenue generation in mind and NOT the creation of items.

I agree crafting and the absurd upgrade costs are definitely the worst bits of 2014. I'm barely playing now because of it. It'll probably be the reason I leave STO behind. I can't afford the upgrades on my mains or my alts.
Delta Rising is the best expansion ever and the players love it! No, seriously! ...Why are you laughing so hard? :(

Argala is certain up there as some of the best new 'content(cough)' of 2014 - I mean most players play it more than any other content - so it must be.

    Best: It's "free."

Worst: Lockboxes, ARC, paygates at every turn, and an in-game experience that is cartoony and not at all immersive, particularly since the design went the route of Star Casino Online.

    LOVED:

    - Actively got involved with my fleet for the first time ever (beyond donating).
    - Got onto Team Speak, finally heard many of my fleet for the first time!
    - Finally accepted the many bugs in this game, and came to a decision about whether or not to keep playing regardless of them. Yes.
    - Finally accepted that this is not the game it was, but that it's still pretty good in many non-ui respects.
    - Disco Balls. I will always love Disco Balls in any format, except for that one time on that Mighty Boosh episode. LOOK AT THEM SHINE!
    - hearing the old voices from Voyager yet again!
    - FLEET DREADNAUGHT. It did not disappoint me (until DR came along, but we need to ignore that for the moment).

    HATED:
    - Reading all of the above and realising that the word 'fun' didn't appear anywhere there.
    - Reading all of the above and realising that I don't like STO in and of itself, I like it despite itself. I don't like this feeling.
    - NOTHING has been updated which hasn't had run-on effects. Because we made it to the Delta Quadrant, my new KDF/Rom can't access their KDF uniforms? In what universe does that even make sense? In STO, that's where.
    - The community support for this game is a joke. A few occasional posts in friendly threads does not constitute community management. And the Tech Support is clearly just one person who presses a button which releases variaints of the phrase 'suck it up' whenever they get mail.
    - WHY THEY HELL DO I HAVE TO PAY TO UPGRADE MY C-STORE DYSONS, BUT NOT THE INGAME ONE? ANOTHER 45$? NO THANKS. WHEN WILL THAT "PAY MORE MONEY" STUFF END? I PAID TO HAVE TOP TIER SHIPS, NOT MIDDLE-GRADE ONES - BUT I WILL PAY NO MORE, FOR CRYPTIC CANNOT PROVIDE 'PURCHASE STABILITY'.
    - (as above, but with a lot more swearing)

    AMBIVALENT:
    - The upgrading is okay, I guess. Apart from how it all works. and everything about it. Ho hum.

Best: I loved the storyline "A New Accord" behind the revamp of the ESD. It was cool having to fight your way to a beat-up spacedock, then the reveal of Egg as an Undine.

Worst: the introduction of the upgrade system.

Best - quitting before DR came out.

Worst - the doff UI and R&D systems that caused me to quit.

DR looked good and was good fun to play.

My only criticism is the level requirements for missions, near the end of the arc it was some time between carrying on the story because I needed to earn levels first. With normal game play that takes a while. Made it very jagged.

    IMO...

    Best:

    1. The VOs and story were awesome!

    2. It can still be considered "free" but less so now since all the new Dilithium sinks.

    Worst:

    1. Poor handling of STFs changes.

    2. Lack of QA testing. (Can you say "Power trays!" and "Queue bug!" Please implement the proper meaning of Q.A.)

    3. Lack consideration of player feedback on Tribble issues before launch.

    4. Lack of a true effort to fix bugs. (We don't need more ships! We need more bug fixes! Put the ship designers on fixing the models and the programmers onto the mechanics, PLEASE.)

    5. Poor handling of "exploits" (Just take ownership of your bugs and lack of testing. Develop a proper and fair protocol for handling "exploits".)

The queue bug can't be that difficult to fix - there's just one server and a few instances to manage. *This bug discourages people to play* because the numbers look so low! I've seen it myself to where it shows 1 or 2 players in a 10 player queue, I join, then the Launch window appears almost immediately... so there had to actually be more players in already. It happens almost every time.

Best: a new 5/2 Raptor for the KDF.

Worst: Geko (maybe even worse, the CDF) openly calling players liars and cheaters- and then we all find out they really weren't, and it was a "mistake."

    Bests:
    • FE featuring Michael Dorn
    • Addition of Fleet Atrox and Mogh Battle Crusier
    • The Mirror Ki'Tang
    • Free Obelisk with Free Advanced Swarmers if you found them.
    • The Upgrade System - Yes I like it.
    • The new R&D system - Yes I like it. With help from my friends.
    Worst:
    • The whole DR story line including the Delta Quadrant. I can't stand Voayger and anything to do with it. Damn all those that voted for it in the poll.
    • The entire T6 ship idea and it's implementation including T5-U and T5-U upgrade system. The entire thing is a mess and $30-40 for a ship is just insane and I'll never pay it.
    • The insanely imbalanced Intelligence powers and all the other insane power leap that came with DR including things like Surgical Strikes and Ionic Turbulence that put the final nail in the coffin that PvP was laying in.
    • The Ship Loadout issue with trays resetting. I lost more time fixing trays than I care to even think about. A great idea completely botched by Cryptic's lack of QA
    • Al "Captain Geko" Rivera - should get the years award for most reviled game developer. This guy is bad for the game and everyone knows it but hime apparently. His ideas are bad. His attitude is bad. He dismisses anything he disagrees with as trolling and I'm pretty sure he hasn't played the game in any significant way in at least a year.
    • Branflakes departure - Smirk Rising =Bad Times for All
    • Jeff Hamilton aka Adjudicatorhawk departure= second nail in coffin for PvP, goodbye game balance!

I'm going to stop there, wow! Too many cons and not enough pros. Take note Cryptic, I'm trying to enjoy your game here but the game is not better than it was after LoR. Step it up!

    Best:

-I thought the story of DR was very good. It had some good twists with the Kobali Prime missions and I also enjoyed the way the "patrol" style missions were worked into the storyline. I also thought the voice over work was very well done by all involved.
-FE Surface Tension. This is one of my favorite story missions in the game, very well done and fun to play.
-PvP prior to DR release. Even with the "clicky" consoles unbalancing things so much, some of my favorite moments this past year were had in PvP with my Fleet Mates. Many thanks to the TOS Veterans :D

    Worst:
-The way Dilithium cost was worked into almost every aspect of the game. I don't spend much on this game, so it makes upgrading my main toons a very daunting and time consuming task.
-The Upgrade System. I find it very clunky, non-intuitive and VERY expensive.
-The handling of the Tau Dewa "exploit" by the devs. Very unprofessional and disruptive to the game as a whole. Then blaming the players....:mad:
-As much as I liked the story of DR, I can't stand the amount of grinding for XP to level from 50-60. It doesn't flow like leveling from 1-50 used to (it still might, it's been a long time since I leveled a character). It used to flow from one mission to the next without having to go do other things to get the next level so you can play the next mission. It is a very choppy gaming experience now, not the flowing one it used to be.
-PvP since DR...basically nonexistent now :(

That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.

List you best and worst things about this past year.

the worst thing of 2014 sto? that someone thought it was a good idea to lie and using unreliable metrics to state that some expansion was the best ever, and that players decided to mock the whole concept, that its gotten too far as it is and now starting to look like something cryptic would actually want to see, that players are stating that delta rising was in fact what they wanted the whole time and love it.

it is not what i wanted, and writing about it now.. there is a meme thats backfired spectacularly!.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

    The Best?
    • Removal of Exploration Clusters (they served little purpose and were by far the worst case of exploration to have).
    • Doff Roster Changes (took some getting used too, but I like them now).
    • The Voice Acting and return of various VOY cast members.
    • The Upgrade System - it's a good feature, but far too expensive and draining. Once the pricing has been fixed, I think it'll be a good feature to have. We can't expect free XIV upgrades, but at the same time, we shouldn't expect extortionate ones either. Additional costs can/could be attributed to choosing your modifiers.
    • The Crafting System - similar reasons to above.

    The Worst?
    • Delta Rising (I couldn't care less about the Kazon, Bentham, or Kobali - I would rather continue the story of home).
    • Tier #6 Ships (people have their cannon favourites, and short of the Intrepid, we're lacking them all).
    • Specialization System (wouldn't have been half bad if it was an account feature, would have been even better if they hadn't bothered with it, but had instead released new traits in the place of said specializations).

    The Indifferent?
    • Intelligence Officers/Skills - I haven't, nor do I plan on using them, though I think whatever work went into them would have been better suited elsewhere.

Good - Story and VOs. The story is just amazing and really makes it worth playing. VOs are just icing on the cake, really brings out the story.

Bad - R&D, really time consuming to get into the high levels. And not a really fast way to speed it up without costing a ton. Some items near impossible to make as well. So far I'm making good out of it for upgrading stuff. Only thing good about it.

Ugly - Story needs to match the faction better. To help separate them, even add faction only versions. This will make playing a certain faction more favorable. And adds to them as part of their story. Not a bunch of copy and paste.
