Are the STO servers being attacked?

PSN and XBox Live have been hammered in the past few days, and now it's hard as Hell to log in my STO account and log into my characters tonight.

Nope, sounds like it's business as usual for STO. It's been like this for years.

I once heard folks thought about doing a DDOS attack against Cryptic, but they didn't bother because they figured somebody else already was...

Internet swamped with seasonal traffic, server problems is just collateral damage.

you think someone is attacking cryptic after taking out xbl and psn?

that would be like going in and knocking the **** out of 2 heavy weight boxers in front of a wbc arena audience, then finishing it off by slapping a small child as you left.

LMAO that is brilliant.... I only came on for a read and to bore myself to sleep.... Now I'm wide awake!

don't need to do a ddos attack on Cryptic to affect the servers... just frighten their hamsters, that's all.

yes, the servers are powered by hamsters.

The only DDoS attacks I have ever seen on the Cryptic servers seem to be self inflicted. Below are some helpful tips to avoid one of these while trying access the game.

    - Avoid logging in in the two weeks following the release of a new Season.
    - Avoid logging in during weekends.
    - Avoid logging in during any major US holiday.
    - Avoid logging in during any Special Event.
    - Avoid logging in from anywhere within the EU Zone. The Cryptic servers and tech personnel apparently dislike Europeans.
    - If in the US or Canada, avoid logging in before 11:59 PM local time and try to log out prior to 6:00 AM local time. The Cryptic servers and tech personnel apparently dislike normal sleep patterns.
    - Whenever the servers go down, avoid logging in for twenty four hours after they are back online.

I hope these tips are helpful. :P

Hackers focus their efforts on making an impact. Sto could go down for a week and it wouldnt make the news.

The amount of hardware sitting between you and the Cryptic servers is pretty large, and it's vulnerable to issues caused by high traffic as well.

heh. sto devs DDoS themselves with attempted fixes. Maybe a hacker will feel sorry, hack in and increase stability, hell they probably figure we're being punished enough playing sto..

That may sound like a joke until you read Stephen D'Angelos long list of tech related credits prior to his Cryptic CTO gig .

    You left out:

-Do not log in when Daniel S. or Craig Z. do not fill the role of EP .
