I'm at Lvl 53 now. For lvl 54, I have to spend 366,000 skill points. How exactly do I 'spend' this, given that I have no more skill points to spend in my skill tree or specialization tree?
After ~LvL 53 you'll see a steep (exponentiel) climb in the Leveling Curve ... so you'll have to do/repeat a lot of "other" stuff ad infinitum ... the most "efficient" way is repeating DR-Patrols (Argala System i.E.) to get to the next Level (Story Episode) ... Doffing might help, as well ...
PS : If you just want to "experience the DR - Story", I would recommend getting to 59 first, then play all the Episodes ...

I would say get to 60 or at the very least half way through the 59- 60 level.
Argala is a really fun one to repeat, not alot of annoying flying around trying to find the right point in space, its mostly straight up fighting, what plot it has is simply, but fun your trying to bring an outlaw to justice, and they throw alot of different outlaws and races at you so it keeps repeating it interesting and you get the mission earily. Its good for leveling, its good for your daily Delta Mark Packet, and its good for getting space vendor stuff to sell for EC.
Tip let you hull point get low at times so you can use the Fleet Support III captain ability, it will summon a battleship that is really useful, pretty much for the whole time, because there are no major gaps in the fighting so it sticks around to the end.
Cool! Thanks guys! Wish cryptic would have been less cryptic about this... The story is the only thing left that I find enjoyable. Obfuscating the conditions for progressing in the story is really taking joy out of it.
I leveled a toon in 5 Days to 50. i am in the middle of the Cardassian missions. I am trying to repeat this on another toon I just made. If I am right.. new players wont have such a hard grind getting to level 60. They would just need to play the missions. Sadly this doesn't help characters that are at level 50 and starting Delta missions. It seems the latest updates and releases were focused more on new players. Although the officer training part will be interesting for them.

No, you'll just have to play the game. Just about anything that involves particle effects involves some amount of skill points earned. Some things (like Argala) reward more than others but by no stretch of the imagination are you requried to apply a min-max philosophy to leveling (some people inevitably do but the obvious solution to some isn't the best solution for all.)
And if you want to move faster than the standard level progression (as set by playing whatever the hell you want to) will allow just take up some careful doffing. Pick up as many assignments as you can with a priority for those that reward more experience per unit time (there's some great ones over the old dyson sphere space zones). You'll easily find yourself at a decent leveling rate without the need to grind.

Anyone have an idea how far past lvl 50 the rest of the story line missions will take me before I have to start the Delta Quadrant?
I got to 53 without playing the cardassian series [any of it] and a few miscellaneous LoR missions before heading into the Delta Quadrant, but that was with some attention paid to doffing. If you haven't bothered with any of that, well you'll still probably hit a similar point if you don't skip (54 as a rough guess).

1-50 is easy just doing missions, but after that missions even on elite storyline missions don't really do anything for you. Source: I hadn't done most of them and did them, a friend that was new was doing them and getting next to no progress past lvl 54.
That said I don't see you getting many legitimate answers here. Every time people find a way to do things well that are enjoyable and post about them they get nerfed. I've never seen a community as scared of the devs as this one. I'd try asking in ESD maybe you'll get a mail or two with advice.
For me I just do stfs now and other stuff I find fun, the lvling is super slow but at least I'm doing what I enjoy instead of trying to lvl.
I remember at 51 doing a delta rising quest at launch and that filled up a third of the level. But I lost interest for a while and didn't really come back to it this week. Now a delta rising quest fills out one tenth a level? What the fudge?

You missed all the fun! They said "we are adjusting the leveling system but you will still level at the same speed once we are done" - and guess what? It was a bare faced lie.

Just do the stuff you enjoy doing. You will eventually get there.
