Odyssey uniform question

Got a newbie question re: uniforms that hopefully some of you more experienced players can answer for me. I've tried researching this online in these forums and elsewhere, but the vast majority of the hits I get deal with when the developers were first rolling the uniforms out, so those conditions don't apply to my account.

First, the basics. I signed up and started playing the game about a month ago. First I played for free, then I signed up for a six-month subscription about a week ago. As I understand it, this changed my status from silver to gold. I just got to Level 40/RAdm. As usual, once promoted, I got the message to return to Spacedock, talk to the Admiral, and get my usual upgrade, which I did.

So here's my question. Now that my character made Rear Admiral, I'd like to put him in the admiral's uniform I see in the Odyssey guide. I've looked high and low, but I can't seem to find the long uniform jacket with the stripes around the sleeve cuffs. Same goes for the Odyssey dress jacket with the strap over the right shoulder. I suppose I could live with either of them, though I'd prefer putting my character in the short jacket. But I can't even find them for sale as part of any zen-purchsed extra uniform package. So am I missing something? I see other player characters wearing them, so I know the things exist. So how do I get my character's hands on one?

If you have a fleet or can ask for an invite to a T5 fleet starbase, the fleet taylor there at the starbase has an unlock for the Odyssey uniform you are referring to. It also has the Odyssey Expedition uniform. However, both purchases will require dilithium and fleet marks...

    Hey,

when the regular Odyssey Uniform was released about 2 years +- ago, you could buy it when you have acess to a Fleet Starbase with the Tailor unlocked.

This year, the regular Odyssey Uniform was made standard for the players and all the Odyssey Variants are now to be bought at the Fleet Starbase at the Tailor.

I am not sure about the costs now, but you need a few thousand Fleet Marks and a few thousand refined Dilithium to buy the Variants.

Edit: here is the link to the thread Askray did, where you can also download a pdf of that uniform guide

My memory on this might not be perfect, but I think it works like this:

The Odyssey Dress uniform (with the strip over the shoulder) and the Odyssey Excursion uniform (with tall boots and pockets) are available for purchase at a Fleet Tailor.

The Odyssey "long coat" (with strips on the sleeve) like Admiral Quinn wears is a Veteran Reward for 200 days, or a Lifetime subscriber.

Yes, I think you are right. I do have so many variants at the Tailor, I didnt keep track of them.

So, the OP is now Gold since about 7 days. The Vet Odyssey unlocks at 200 days. That means that the OP has to wait for about ahmm...

First off, thanks for all the helpful replies. I have a few follow-up questions. I'm not a part of a fleet at the moment for two reasons (aside from being fairly new and not really familiar with more than the bare basics of the fleet concept). First, I'm new to the game, so I'm not sure my still-floundering attempts at ship-to-ship combat are anything a decent fleet would want in the first place. And second, my real life involves an unpredictable schedule that would make it very difficult for me to reliably participate in fleet activities (i.e., "Let's all log on at 9:00 tomorrow night and play."). So, the questions are:

    - Can I be invited to a fleet starbase to use their tailor on a one-time basis?

    - Once I have the uniform variants I want, can I alter their colors/insignia at any Federation tailor at a later date? And once purchased, are the variants permanently available to any (Federation) character of mine in the game, or just the one who visited the base?

    - And finally, the question of cost. I have plenty of dilithium to pay for a uniform, but if I'm not part of a fleet, is there a way to get enough fleet marks/credits to make my purchases? Perhaps a swap for dilithium or energy credits? Or can I, while at the fleet base, contribute some items, assets, etc. in exchange for the marks I need for the tailor?

To the first part: You dont need to be in a Fleet if you dont want to. There are a lot of Fleets offering a short invitation to their Fleet where you can use their Vendors. Some Fleet do this for free, some charge for an invitation.
There are a few people out there to provide you with better information about those Fleets.

You don't really need to participate in any activity the Fleets do. I never participated in any of their scheduled events. The only thing 99% of the Fleets want you to do, is to donate Fleet Marks, Dilithium, white Doffs and consumables to the Fleet Projects. A Fleet Project either increase the amount of Goods stocked at a Fleet or upgrades a Fleet Holding.
    - Well, that was a short run of the Fleet thing.

If you buy the Odyssey Variants, they are unlocked on ONE character. You must buy the Variants for every other Fed Character. However the Veteran Variant is an Account wide unlock.
And yes, you can alter the Unfiorms at every Tailor.

Hmm cant answer your last question. I have always been part of a Fleet. You get Fleet Credits by donating items to Fleet Projects. Dilithium and Doffs and Fleet Marks give the most Fleet Credits.

As stated: Odyssey Dress and Excursion (Tactical) available at Tier 3 Starbase Fleet Tailor for 8000 Fleet Credits and 16,000 Dilithium each per character. The Odyssey Long Jacket is the 200 day Veteran reward which unlocks account wide once you hit 200 days subscribed or immediately upon purchase of LTS.

You don't have to be in a Fleet to make the unlock purchases (just invited to a Tier 3 Starbase with Tailor), but the only way to acquire Fleet Credits is to at least join a Fleet temporarily and make enough donations to projects to earn your Fleet Credits.

Very helpful. Thank you. Your comment convinced me to do a little more research on fleets, and if there are some out there who won't mind me not participating much in the social aspect and are willing to just let me help out with projects, donations, etc., then I can definitely bring something to the table if I join one. If there's a fleet with a tailor I can immediately access that's willing to have me, I'll join up, start grinding on whatever projects they have going, and earn my keep that way.

I just remembered ... If he wants the "full" Flag Officer look, he'll have a longer wait. If you look at the uniform guide, it includes the Jupiter Veteran belt (with the Federation seal buckle). That unlocks at 500 days, or immediately with a lifetime sub.

Yeah, that occurred to me as well. Guess I'll just have to be the admiral who walks around with a cheap belt buckle. I'm not too thrilled with the idea of waiting 193 more days for the long jacket, but it doesn't look like I have much of a choice. I figure that if I join a fleet in the meantime and buy the Odyssey dress jacket, I can play with the colors and make a reasonable facsimile of an admiral's uniform.

True, but I don't want to be that guy who just hangs around long enough to take advantage of someone's Tier 3+ generosity and then jumps ship as soon as he gets what he came for. I'm not like that, either in life or a game involving other people. If someone is willing to let me join their fleet and give me a chance to earn some money, I'll donate and make damn sure I pull my share of the weight, and I'll stick around and help out with whatever projects they have planned. Besides, from what I've read, it seems like my best bet would be to join a fleet that's at least Tier 3 but maybe not too much higher, because they're more likely to have more work/projects available at all times that allow me to make some credits when I have time to play. And seeing a fleet facility visibly grow as work progresses seems like an interesting aspect of the game. I think I'd like to see that. I likely won't be much on the social end - not because I don't want to be, but rather because it's unlikely that our schedules will coincide. But any construction project needs workers, and I'm willing. I posted a notice in the Federation fleet forum, so hopefully I'll fit someone's needs for a fleet newbie. If anyone reads this and is interested, click on the link below for more info.

Here's a few images for you. Its the guide for the uniforms, released by Cryptic so people can match the uniforms to what is used in the game.

They released it as a PDF but I took the images to use here.

Odyssey Dress Uniform and Odyssey Excursion Uniform cost fleet credits and dilithium. You have to actually join a fleet and contribute to fleet projects such as duty officers, commodities, fleet marks, dil, etc., in order to earn the fleet credits needed for the uniforms.

Which I'm more than willing to do. I just have no idea how to figure out which fleet best fits the criteria I mentioned above.

Hi. So I think the others have answered your question on the uniforms, noting that the oddy doesn't do skirts etc. I think it might have been better to buy a lifetime subscription, only when it is on sale for US$100 off, as it wouldn't be that more expensive and you immediate get a bunch if stuff (free ships, uniforms etc). But you've done the six months now, so at least you'll know before you buy.

But if you get stuck on a fleet, let me know and I'll speak to one of the officers; I'm sure it shouldn't be a problem.

My own fleet, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is probably one of, if not the most laid-back FED fleet in the game. There are absolutely no requirements, not even that you add any of the fleet officers to your friends list (though that is common courtesy). They run no events, and expect no contributions (though you are more than welcome to do so).

Of course, they don't have much in the way of holdings (Tier 1 starbase, everything else at T0), but it would allow you to gain fleet marks and fleet credit at your leisure, which you can then use at a higher tier facility that you may be invited to.

That's how my primary character (Amy@J.H.Harris) got her Odyssey Mess Dress and Excursion uniforms. I'll probably need to get her another base invite to pick up some elite gear...

But then, that's just a suggestion. Feel free to ignore it.

(Though, should you see her in game - a cute, black-haired Andorian fleet admiral, usually in Mess Dress on ESD or Excursion in a battlezone - feel free to request a fleet invite.)
