This thread IS being derailed, by lots of different people, and I would like people to stop posting off-topic. Off-topic posts from here on out will be subject to heavy moderation.

The topic, lest anyone has forgotten, is challenge spamming in the Winter Wonderland. Spamming anybody -- in game or in forum -- is not cool. Spamming threads to get them closed is going to backfire horribly if I have anything to say about it.

So, given that, is anyone still experiencing challenge spamming? If you got spammed previously, what did you do about it? No naming of names, please.

Funny how every time there's a thread complaining about GM inaction on T&C violations, out come the Dentals to derail it. Defensive, much? Worried you'll get shut down if the GMs suddenly start doing their jobs?

What are you talking about? We're just here to respond to...oh, Bluegeek modded out the rant. Welp, guess we're done here. Thanks Bluegeek, nice to have you keeping the forums clean of ToS violations. :)

But you know what? I guess it doesn't matter now does it? By being allowed to visit their studios Cryptic has pretty much signed off on you and your fleet haven't they? They've said in deed what most of us have suspected for years. They're not going to stop you. They're not going to correct you. You won. After long last, you really, really won. STO is yours and no one is going to do a thing about it. Congratulations.

I feel sorry for the OP and people like him.

Every time someone tries to raise this issue there are people who feel the need to join the thread just to say "Actually, this is all about me" and enlighten us with the long long story of their victimisation. They then accuse other people or groups of people - with no proof - which of course prompts those accused to respond to defend themselves.

The thread then collapses in on itself like a dying star.

To stop challenges from people you don't know, you have to click on the "Social" icon, click on "privacy" and then disable this setting.

I don't know why people feel the need to make the thread about them. You're experienced players. Just tell the OP how to disable challenges and carry on with your day.

Yup, these entire last three pages or so were entirely predictable.

Don't feed the troll, people. Ignore, report, and move on. If you do collect information to try to get them banned, don't tell them that you're doing it.

Now, on the OP's issue. Ignore settings should have been updated, but if not, there's a quick way to change privacy settings--hit O, go to "Team", there's a button marked "privacy" on the right. Click it, change your settings to what you like (for example, to autodecline fleet map invites from non-friend non-fleet people), and hit OK.

Note that this may block fleet map invites, so be sure to turn it off it you're using a public service channel to get to a top-tier fleet map.

Also, when you're ignoring the spammer, REPORT him, too. Write up a short description and if possible go to arcgames.com, find the TOS, and show how the troll is violating TOS. The Devs are already on this dirtbag's case, shouldn't be long now.

    Bluegeek, you forgot this:

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=21343181&postcount=111

    and maybe a few others.

Fairness and rule-enforcing is meaningless unless it is upheld equally and it shouldn't be my job to have to point that out.

Apologies bluegeek for my contributions to derailment. Their actions are now public record for all to see. Hopefully next time, you will moderate a thread dedicated directly to the topics I confront daily. If you want to have a private conversation with me to that effect, feel free to do so.

... and yes I have been challenge spammed, multiple times by multiple individuals.

Blocking challenges doesn't change the fact that the troglodytes are impersonating real players and ruining their reputations.

The OP's question wasn't about that issue, that's my point. Start a thread about that issue and you lot can argue among yourselves. How does any of this help the OP with their question?

Yep, totally agree. However, MY job is not to read every single post and click on every single link. I act on what I see and what is reported to me.

People, I would like to point out that posting links for the express purpose of harassing another user is still against forum rules, even if you didn't post anything else.

worffan101, thanks for posting about the privacy settings and for the advice about how to deal with in-game spammers.

    No problem, Bluegeek.

Another idea: Wait until a Dev or CM comes on, then ask them politely to come to Winter Wonderland to see the TRIBBLE that's going on.

And that issue is being or has been handled and was addressed in a different thread. If it's relevant to this particular discussion and isn't a rehash of what has already been reported, by all means continue.

I'm keeping this thread open only so that people who may be currently affected by challenge spam, or any other kind of spamming behavior, can get some help.

This thread is not for the Cryptic Defense Force, the Cryptic Defamation Force, the Dental Defense Force, the Dental Defamation Force, or any other Force. This thread is for individuals who have this particular problem.

Thank you bluegeek. As far as I've observed on many threads, you are a fair and just moderator.

A reminder to everyone, if you don't want to be spammed with "saint Olivia" name challenges, just go to your privacy settings and prevent random people from sending you PvP challenges!

If, like me, you like to take all comers and beat them, remember it's very easy to turn this setting on and off as needed.

Until the obnoxious "pay attention to saint Olivia" plague is exterminated, this is the way to spare yourself the annoying spam.

Just so we're all on the same page here, this goes back to a person impersonating the Olivia that posts here on the forums and has nothing to do with Olivia herself, or her fleet.

If the spamming is still going on, you should also report the person in addition to changing your privacy settings.
