Upgraded retrofit phasers

zero2362zero2362 Member Posts: 436 Arc User
I am so tempted to take the old TOS phasers and upgrade them to Mk XIV just for that retro feel. The only reason I havent is because I want to get my primary weapon type maxed out first and that is currently eating up all my resources. For those curious im working on phased biomatter

So has anyone actually tried this and if so can you keep up with other players while using them?

Even if they dont work so well this is still something I would love to try eventually

Phased Biomatter are among the hardest to get levelled to max. Best way to do it (though costly) is to open loads of the Phased weaponry boxes on a low character to get them at MK II to MK IV. Then sell all the ones that don't have the desired modifiers.

Upgrade the rest, if they fail to upgrade correctly sell them and continue until you get the desired full weapon count.

Resale of the undesirables is pretty high for Phased Biomatter so shouldn't pose too much of an issue.

As for the TOS phasers, they are upgradeable and lose the front rear limitations. They are just an annoying version of Phased Biomatter really.

And oh, but that SOUND! They've cheaply reused it for the Kazon, but it's so high-pitched and annoying.

Did they fix the upgrading bug with the TOS phasers?

I know I upgraded one a while ago to Mk XIII before I realised it was still showing the 5 phaser damage of the original version.

The awesome sound effect you get when firing these weapons is what made me buy the TOS Constitution in the first place. I'll go onto tribble and upgrade them to mk XIV now and share the stats in this thread, if you impatient buggers can wait a few minutes.

While the retrofit phasers are the best looking beam weapon in the game, because they don't have the colossal bloomed fatness of everything else, the sound of eight of them will start getting to you.

My Guardian has eight of them, because to hell with running Fluid Dynamics eight times again. Everything Old Is New can be completed facerollingly easily in record time. Especially since it seems to have recently been changed to allow to BOs two come with you instead of just one.

Also, no idea where people are getting the front/rear thing from. Every single one I've gotten from that mission in the past couple weeks no longer has that restriction.

    You're reading my mind..
I REALLY want to upgrade some Retrofit phasers.
Also REALLY want to upgrade the 10% proc Polarized Tetryon Beams you can get from episode rewards (I upgrade one of these to MK XIV just for kicks)

But unfortunatly I have a set of 5x Romulan DHC's and Turrets to upgrade first..
    And then
5x DHC Polarized Disruptors I want to upgrade to MkXIV...amongst other weapons I'd like to upgrade...

Sigh...Unfortunatly at this rate I may never get around to upgrading the Retro Phasers :(

This is one REALLY BAD drawback to the upgrade system...It corners you into 1 set of weapons, as it's ridiculously expensive to get a set to MK XIV.

    :(

Not any more. Found myself with so much Dil that I bought 500 Zen a week ago or so, and picked up the T1 Connie. Still running those phasers, because of the way they upgrade themselves, although right now I have the Mk IVs from my time-travel experiences mounted forward (they're slightly more powerful than the Connie phasers until my next promotion). And they've had the "fore/aft" distinction removed as well.

Yeah, that's why I used them for only a short time before I was like, ok, that's enough of that and switched to normal phasers. While it seems like an accurate reproduction from TOS, the SFX were only ever used briefly on the show, so it didn't seem so bad. But get in one prolonged firefight after another in this game and your ears will bleed.

Till around the time of DR launch there was specific beam arrays for forward and rear as a reward they have since changed it so the reward is like all other arrays. I have them on one of my escorts back when I used mirror.

Not anymore. I bought the T1 a couple of months back and have outfitted a Fleet Nebbie with the TOS phasers. The Front/Rear restriction ist kaput. :)

Yeah, I still have a set floating around, I believe they were off the C-Store T1 Connie, so had the "Infinity" symbol rather than a MK number, so when I hit "Upgrade" to see what'll happen, it automatically put it up to Mk XII, but the DPS says...

    4

I know I can dismiss and reclaim the ship to get more phasers, but it's just annoying...

Its just a display bug. After upgrading to xii change instance and the weapons will display the correct dps. They are actually quite strong. Just 1 dps less than fleet phasers beam arrays Mk xii with a dmgx2 trait

Really? Because I've been in and out of the game, changed instances, etc, countless times and it still says 4 DPS.

you need to be in a space map... not ground... may not work in sector space.

they will only show the correct values while in space... they go back to bugged display on ground.

In my experience, it does work in sector space. (And if you manage to compare your ship's weapons to ground weapons in your inventory, they display some truly ludicrous DPS.)
