Something I dont understand about Intel Officers

painstixpainstix Member Posts: 35 Arc User
Hello,

I'm confused as to why I cannot trade my officer to be trained? Paid 300 lobi and I cannot even get the abilities I need on her :( Can someone please explain why this restriction is in place, and if ever it will be removed? Or if there is some other way i am just not seeing to train the skills my character just does not have, other then the skill trainer?

Thanks very much

Depending on the skills you need, you might find some BO's on the Exchange to train the skills you are looking for. Some skills however, are only trainable by a particular career specific Captain. ESD and Qo'noS also have bridge officer trainers for the more common skills.

Certain Bridge Officers are bind on pickup. It is due to the reason that these are unique bridge officers where you can only have one per character. Unfortunately, there is no way to train up these bridge officers if you don't have the right career.

I came up with this idea of sacrificial bridge officers where a player trains up a common bridge officer with the skill you want, sends it from the active roster to the candidate list, and trades it to you. So you can get the skill you want on the Bridge Officer you want.

When you filled out 27 points (iirc) in Intel Specialization, you will be able to train ALL Intel powers yourself. :) So you won't need others to train them for you.

How do you send a boff from the active roster to the candidate list? All the options I see is discharge, promote or train. Discharge sends it away from ever. aka deletes it

Problem here is, I want to train my sci/intel boff with a science skill that only a science person can train! But of course use the other two slots for actual intel abilities

Yeah. Like I can't teach BFAW3 to an Intel boff of mine, ever (as I'm an Engineer). Kinda sucks, really. Even the cheap white Intel doffs are untradable. I tend to reserve the > Lt. seats for true Intel powers, though; like OSS3 + SS3. So, I'm thinking whatever you had planned for the Lt. Cmdr seat will likely have to be downgraded a notch to a boff-trainable Lt. position.

That is why it is called an "idea". It doesn't exist in the game, but it would be a nice feature to have to get around this annoyance.

Won't work. You can't discharge to candidate roster: a candidate boff is, per definition, unused. And for the same reason you can't trade to candidate roster, either (so you could use said received boff to train up another boff of yours). Nor can you train to candidate roster.

Thinking out-loud, I think Geko purposely sabotaged the trading of Intel boffs, out of fear you won't complete the Intel tree yourself (and are, thus, no longer busy grinding). Kinda breaks the traditional cross-training model; but hey, it's all about the money nowadays. Or did I sound too cynical here?!

Geko has mentioned adding the ability to create training tokens. If it gets implemented, players will be able to make a token for any skill they could train a boff in. these would presumably be sellable on exchange.

    But until then, yeah.

So, nor more free courtesy training between players then? See, I knew it: it's all about the money. :)

Honestly, the cheap white boffs should be tradable. And, while we're at it, we need an Exchange sub-category for Intel boffs too.

We don't know what will work and what won't work and until the devs actually bother to try it, then they probably don't know either. Besides there are other methods available for the devs to implement this system like putting sacrificial bridge officers in a Lockbox or the Bridge Officer store. It is not a matter of can they do it, but will they do it and how much time it will take to do it.

Well, didn't say it wouldn't work for Devs: they can make up the rules as they go along. :) But for us regular mortals, there's no way, unless the Devs change something. So, next time you see a cat walking by, 'glitching', that would be a good time to check for what they changed. :P

I agree about the white intel boffs.

I doubt that buying training manuals on exchange would be expensive. After all, most engineers can train EptW and EptS. :P And all of them would be able to sell books for it on exchange. the price would be solely determined by who was willing to sell for the least. I figure it'd probably be around 1k ec.
