Champions Online. That's the only other F2P game I've played where a free player can get all the way to the endgame without having to buy anything at all.
DDO isn't too bad, at least as far as I played it, but I found the second city in the game too tedious, so I stopped playing (why waste my time with an "entertainment" that fails to keep me entertained?).

DDO's problem is that it charges for content.
You have to grind like a madman on all characters to get practically anywhere.
I finally gave in and bought some stuff. Got the Gianthold pack, and it was different enough to entertain me.
I don't play anymore, though. It started to get really slow and buggy and then the computer I had it on died, and I haven't downloaded it again yet.
In terms of F2P, I do very much like STO. The whole game is pretty much completely open for nothing. If you really care that much, you could also literally just grind Dilithium for ZEN and buy one or two C-Store ships that way (along with anything else). But even so, this game doesn't hide any actual gameplay or options behind the curtains.
I just reinstalled Champions Online after four years or so. It isn't free to play. That's stretching the term before the breaking point of being a lie. You're playing a demo. Oh you can play to the 'end', but in a game which was pretty much intended to be the Next-Gen competitor to City of Heroes, F2P means you can't do anything that made these two games attractive. You get two alts without spending money, and can't customise your archetype. Wow. Great. Because I was here for your groundbreaking gameplay with a pre-built archetype.
Champions Online F2P is just a demo of all the basic functionalities you don't have.
With 11 free ATs, though, and with the choices in the specializations as you level, how much customization is needed? (Admittedly, you don't want to run with a Mind or a Blade unless you're looking for expert-level difficulty...)
One note for the new player: For some reason, they decided to go with something they called "streamlining" for character creation. "Streamlining" seems to mean "hide stuff from the player"; until you get your first character to 10th level, more than half your free costume options (which in a superhero game really is a major deal) are hidden from you, as are the fact that you can, if you wish, purchase more costumes or Archetypes. Worse, while it only takes about half an hour or so of playtime to hit 10, you don't get any notification of the sudden appearance of new costume parts in the Tailor. At least the process doesn't have to be repeated every character - just on the first one.
While STO is at the top of my list, a close second is ArcheAge. One of my friends described it as "Lineage II designed for Crafting instead of PvP", which I think is remarkably accurate. It is, however, very grindy as a result but all of the content is available. Being a subscriber gets you special tokens for certain shops and allows you to generate Labor Points (which you use for EVERYTHING, even identifying drops from mobs!) while offline (normally you can have to stay online and get 5 points every 5 minutes).
Member since November 2009... I think. (UFP) Ragnar

Also, it will sometimes let a new player choose options they need to buy, but not tell them that. Then when you finish creating the char, those options get reset to defaults.

Yes, that one went undiscovered for a long time. Trailturtle's got the devs on that one. (I'd check it out, but I'd need to make another account first, and I think three accounts are enough, don't you? )
I'll be honest, I'm still exploring the wide world of MMO's.
I've tried Champions, and quite frankly, the cartoony look of it kind of jarred me a little. I might go back to it at some point, but I'm in no hurry.
I've played a bit of The Old Republic, and while I really like the dialogue options and character customization, I can't stand the endless patch times and the fact that some parts of the storyline missions can only be completed with cooperative play.
I played the Elder Scrolls Online beta, and as an avowed Bethesda fanboy I love it. However, I'm still waiting for it to become F2P/less buggy, and that will probably happen once hell freezes over.
So that's what I've done so far other than STO. A friend sent me a free trial of EVE, so I'll give that a whirl and see what all the fuss is about, but I've been told that I'm generally too nice a person to do well in EVE.
but I'm willing to hear what other people think. So what games do you think don't treat f2players as the scum of the earth.
couldnt care less what happens to sto, that my opinion, either good or bad makes no difference to me. in relation to other mmo games? im not going there, too many variables for those who dont see the variation on a theme that it really is.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

I'm sorry, I was asleep for a little while so I'm lacking the brainpower to understand what you said or why you said it

..... Does an unfinished emulator for a years-dead Star Wars MMO count?
Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.
