Buying zen

johhannejohhanne Member Posts: 41 Arc User
Hi all,

I have read lots of concerning things about buying zen recently putting your account on probation.

Here's my thing - I would buy zen to buy the R&D packs to have a go for the ship and because I am crafting and would find them useful. But I don't necessarily want anything I buy to be account bound (except obviously I know the lobi are!) which I understand is what happens if your account is on probation.

I also hear that it can take 7 - 10 days to get your account off probation.

So - is it worth buying zen for this. HOw big is the risk of the account being put on probation?

Jo

If you have never paid them for anything it will be put on probation. Its your first credit card charge that they do it with. If you have used your card regulary then its already passed its probation.

I generally pay through paypal - It's not my first time paying them and I got the Delta Rising pack and occasionally buy some zen..

Your probably okay but if you really want to know for sure you should probably contact the accounting support to check. This was put in place because of credit card fraud.

If you are just looking for a probation test then buy $5.00 worth of Zen and then buy a Key and see if you can add it to the Exchange - or you get a notice it will be account bound when you try to buy it. If you can you have no probation. If you cannot then you are only out $1.25 while you wait for the probation to end.

No one here can give you a direct answer. We do not know if your account is on probation or not. So you either give it a shot or contact and wait for Customer Service to get back to you sometime late next week.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Just don't do it then you can use that money for far better things, like Tinsel and Baubles :)
    Chris Robert's on SC:
"You don't have to do something again and again and again repetitive that doesn't have much challange, that's just a general good gameplay thing."

which would you prefer, having the zen immediately knowing everything is account locked, or have then hold the zen in "escrow" for the lack of a better term, while it's on probation?

They used to hold onto the payment for "verification" if you made infrequent or very large purchases - that was almost as annoying to be honest. I had them take $50 out of my PayPal and stick the payment in "verification" for almost 48 hours before I sent PayPal an email and they sorted it out for me.

I'm not sure where I fall on this issue actually....

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

on the one hand it resolves the heartache of somehow not knowing everything will be bound, but on the other hand, it opens up a window for money to disappear. you would need some sort of proof document or email. Your current Zen balance is $500. you have purchased 5000 which will be available on XX/XX/XXXX.

of course being able to see your zen transactions would be nice. I know darn well I have not spent zen and yet the balance changes up and down

Hence why I have exclusively used PayPal - from experience as a buyer, and as a seller on eBay, if there are issues or discrepancies, I know that PayPal will side very aggressively with the consumer. Safety aspects aside, PayPal's consumer focused approach is why I still use it for everything I possibly can.

And yes, a much more detailed Zen accounting system would be most welcome.
