alphaomega000qalphaomega000q Member Posts: 11 Arc User
Buying zen from steam wallet for the R n D Elachi promo and now i have a inv full of R n D supplies that are account bound nothing i can do in crafting everything i upgrade will be account bound

Why do you punish us for being customers?
Why?

even the experimental upgrades that were in the inventory prior to opening boxes give me an account bound notice
I didn't receive any experimental upgrades why are they affected?

Why punish users that don't use Arc? so sad i spent money to much money on another broken thing

Here is the simple fact of gaming microtransactions. NEVER use real money in games. Just don't.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

Unfortunately, they wouldn't take his counterfeit money, so what choice does he have? :P

I think it boils down to this - the new account probation system that is supposed to protect players and Cryptic/PWE against fraud is just working poorly with Steam.

Of course there will be conspiracy theorists that will claim this is to get people to use the Arc launcher and use the Arc methods of buying Zen, but - this would be a very poor way of doing it, because it causes support issues, will likely cost them some future sales.

So, I'd assume incompetence before malice, as usual in such cases, or in other words, the new system is badly implemented.

    Do it this way:

    - Buy Zen via Steam.
    - QUIT STO. Don't just log out to character select, quit to desktop.
    - Relaunch STO.
    - Spend Zen without any account-binding BS.

no one is being punished for using steam.

Cryptic put in place, with an announcement that explains how it works, a security feature. It is new, and like everything else done by cryptic that is new, it is "quirky" and behaves in "unexpected" ways. But it is not targeting steam users or some sort of tinfoil hat nonsense "they is forcing us to use arc by attacking steam players with bugz" or the like.

Its just a buggy security feature.

And the bug seems to clear up after a bit. Buy your zen. Wait for the security "hold" that binds all purchases to wear off / resolve itself. Spend your zen. Problem solved. I dunno how much time that takes or details because it did not do it to me, yet. It apparently finds a red flag on some players and not others, unclear as to why.

Or you could buy the zen, not pay attention to the 20 threads here about it, the text in the purchase area about it, the announcement about it, or any other source of info on the issue, buy account bound stuff during your hold period, and then /headexplode about it.

I would really like to see this issue addressed as well.

I play through Steam, I always have.. I just like the convenience of Steam. I like having all my games right there, and prefer the social interaction components since most of my friends use Steam as well.

I have been making STO Purchases through Steam long before this new security measure without a problem. I have bought several ships, promotional packages, etc. Steam is using the same card I was using for my subscription but I still get this every single time.

The message says it's a 'temporary' restriction, but apparently their idea of 'temporary' is several months because I still get this message. I opened a ticket with Customer Support and was politely told that there was nothing they can do about it. I'm not sure why this is in place.

To the OP, what you can do.. remember that Steam is just a launcher. If you installed the game through steam, you can still play the game as a 'stand alone.' Navigate to your install directory (Steam\steamapps\common\Star Trek Online.) You can run the launcher directly from there to launch the game without Steam. You can then purchase directly with Credit Card. Alternatively, you can install Arc and do it that way.

I'm not sure why this frustrating procedure is in place, it seems an unnecessary punishment for those that play on Steam. It's supposed to be temporary, but so far it doesn't seem Temporary at all.

You just need to quit the game after buying Zen, and spend after logging back in.

It always amazes me that every time this Steam versus Arc for purchasing Zen comes up, hardly anyone mentions that you DO NOT NEED EITHER ONE to buy Zen.

Simply go to https://billing.arcgames.com/en/ and log in. You can purchase with Paypal, PWE Prepaid cards, etc from there without having the "lockout" in Steam or needing to install "the dreaded" arc client.

I'll try that next time, thank you.

Right now, I'm just not buying anything.. I'll test it next time I'm going to buy something that I know is for me. That way if it doesn't work it doesn't matter.

Thanks for the tip, I appreciate it.

If you're buying online currency for a game, buy DIRECTLY from the site itself. I had problems with Steam Wallet in the past, so I've stopped using it to avoid these shenanigans.

I have always had good experience with Steam which is why I prefer that method.

For this game though, I believe I will take your advice. The 'anti fraud' system really does not seem to like working with Steam.

It's a shame because I have been using the Steam method the entire time I have played this game and it's always been a quick and easy method. Guess I just have to jump through an additional hoop now, I hope this is remedied some day soon.

I have a long history of purchases and my issue is not the horrible security feature but the impact it has on a player

My R n D inventory is full of items that are account bound even items that did not come from the boxes from the promo event are affected

anything i upgrade is account bound
experimental tech upgrades give account bound messages (even thou the items arent account bound)
its sad that this ruins any chance i have to use the horribly expensive system

I just wish this could be resolved
    why? account bound RnD
