to gain Q photos other than:
1: That frakken race
2: lobi

I mean, the event is fun but 40pics a day is SSSSssssllllLLLlllooooOooWWWWWW gain. =/ Especially when trying to get 1000. (40 pics per run, 25 runs @ 20 hr intervals = 500 hours or 21 days straight.... ouch!)

There's no other way.
For the love of god, don't buy it with lobi. You'd be spending over $400 on a ship they're giving away for practically nothing.

Well, the good news is I mamanged to get both THE BIG ONE for the snowmen fights and by boots for the race so I guess I'll just keep going untilo i get enough holiday cheer for the warp core...

The whole point in making the race frustrating is to make people want to waste lobi for the ship. I don't think we would have a winter event at all without some sort of thinly veiled cash grab tacked on.

Its certainly far less tedious than the Mirror invasion, the Summer event, and all the other dailies we have had.

I am part of the "constant complain" crowd. I don't like DR. Or the monetization model. Or PWE. Or many of the statements that Geko is famous for. Or ferrets.
But the OP is asking for something that is frankly silly. So don't lump people who have problems with the system as it is with everyone else who has a problem.
And the devs avoid the forum because they are doing something else. That's like saying the constant cries of "vaporware" is why the Phantom game console never came out. The devs aren't paid to troll the forums. The marketing and community guys are paid for that, as to some extent is the producer.
Who's complaining? I was asking a question... or isn't that allowed any more?

I don't mind the race. I win more times than not. The race doesn't bother me in the least. I just wanted to know OTHER than the race and lobi if there was any other way to earn as doing 500 hours of races seems a touch extreme, no?
I swear... what is it with some people that they feel the need to leap upon someone's post and tear it down if they either misinterpret it or they feel it might somehow tarnish thier gleaming white shield?

I remember a player posting on the forum and actually asking/suggesting they make photos available for purchase with lobi about 2 weeks ago lol.
the race is not that frustrating. I can see how it can be exclusive for disabled people and I think they should have a picture gifting system at least to allow me to "donate" my 40 picks I got in a race that day by typing in a name of another user and sending him/her a present. This way it would bypass the ability to sell the pics on the exchange but make it possible to gift them to others since its a christmas event to me this makes sense.
anyhow the lobi thing was actually a player suggestion/request lol I remember shaking my head when I saw it but seriously though .. I am gonna have to stop reading this forum between people posting things like "the devs hate us" , "the devs are trying to force us to play delta" and complaints about a club that was designed for ESD, demands to basically cancel christmas altogether..
My head is spinning the club 47 and requests to cancel christmas is just people being "meany heads" lol.
The statements that "devs hate us" is completely lacking in any logic at all.
Just a question, but how long have you been playing STO? The free ships from both summer event and winter event take 1000 special items and take about 21 days. 25 if every 24 hours. Of the two, the winter event is way quicker and less grindy.
Also, unlike last year, it's now alt friendly. I'm extreamly happy about that
Dude......first you say that 'frakken' race, then you feel the need to spell out how it's so awwwwwfffuuullllyyyy slow, then you say 'ouch!'. How is that not to be taken as a complaint?
When people say 'frakken' something where I am, they're complaining about it.
Look at it this way - yes it's slow, but it's free. It's effectively an account unlock, since you only need to run the race once on other toons once you get it. It's a T6, which you would otherwise need to pay 3000 zen or win a lockbox or pay 900 lobi for or a fortune in EC. When you look at the alternatives, does it not sound reasonable?
For quite some time thats how I got my Dyson ship via Q as I remember and yes, its nice that there are some incentives for alts to take part. However, my alt is perfectly comfortable with her T5U Scimitar so at least theres some pressure off LOL

Let me start with an apology for my tone. It was meant to be more tongue-in-cheek than a complaint but I realize it can be difficult to convey tone via the forums. That was my bad.
No, I am enjoying the festivities and as I said, the race isnt that big of a deal especially with my boots on a side note, 25 races spaced out at 20 hour intervals is still a long stretch, dont you think? 12 hours would make more sense to me but at least it gives me more than an ample opportunity to earn the baubles for the warp core so .
Frustrating How? the race is soo easy its just a 2-3min time consumer.
I work seventeen jobs 92 hours a day while taking care of thirty-seven children with several wives who are all sick with terminal diseases and go to college inside the nursing homes of their relatives I also take care of.
Not all of us have 2-3 minutes to spend in STO each day just to get a T6 ship that comparitively sells for $30.
We should have gotten it for free in 1965 a year before TOS was even aired.
If you don't have any of the gear (ie boots, etc.) then try this - it's how I won the race repeatedly.
Sprint, but sprint wisely.
Speaking of corners, just before you reach it JUMP and turn in the air to face the new direction of the path. As soon as you land, hit shift. Remember every time you jump it breaks your sprint so when you jump the corner, sprint upon landing.
Dont be afraid to slide a little but try not to leave the path too much or risk instant disqualification. Stick to the track as much as possible and when you see a straightaway SPRINT.
Be very careful on that final turn. Its not overly tough but if you let your guard down thinking youre just at the end your opponent will overtake you.
The trick isnt just speed. Its control. However, I strongly suggest you do the side quests to get the baubles needed to get the shoes as they give you more traction on that trail (you slide like mad everywhere else) and a speed boost.
I LOL'ed way too hard at this. I hope I'm not high off peppermints again...
