1000 Glossy Pictures On My Main, Then 40 On My Alt To Get A New Ship?

I am currently completing races on both my characters, my main is a 56 TAC officer and my Alt is an Engineer I hardly play at Level 7. Is this like the summer event? You get 1000 then only have to pay 40 to get a ship on your alt. Can it be a different ship?

You've got it right. Completion of ship A unlocks that ship for the alt with the 40 pic discount.
If you complete ship A on your main and ship B on your alt, they will both be eligible for the discount for the other toon's ships.

It's also worth mentioning that the discount for the Ghel Gret (the breen cruiser) is bugged for some people.

It was for me, but I fixed it by:
1. Slotting the 1000 picture project
2. Cancelling it
3. Doing the race; getting the pictures
4. When I re-slotted the Chel Grett project, it said I only needed 40 pictures.

The discount is per ship - but, there are three ships and you have three character slots, so you level a new alt to 5, your main sets up a project to collect one ship, your alts the other two, and the discount is then unlocked for all 3 ships.
27 runs x 3 characters x <2 minutes = two and a half hours to unlock two T5s and a T6 - probably the best returning grind in STO in terms of reward for time invested.
but as the OP has only 2 characters it would be hard to get all 3 this year, but he could still get all 3 current ships, 2 this year and the third next year along with that years ship as I am sure they will have the same format then.
it might also be an advantage to run the mission over the 25 required times and collect and save any excess pictures till next year to lighten the load.

Known Issue thread said that they are aware of this bug and are looking into a fix. Has there been any statement (official) on the progress of this fix? Any word on fixes for any of the other Winterland bugs? Links appreciated thanks!
Hope they fix it before the Event ends. i want all 3 Ships this year. But i am getting the Chell Grett on my main so if the others don´t get it, its not a big deal.
It's already fixed on Tribble.
