Oh my god!
I played this game back in the 80s when it looked like this:

Now fast forward to today and it looks like THIS!

I am glad they are keeping a few of the core looks of the game, even if it was only sticks back in the day. They still got the shapes.

Man, I want these guys to make the next Trek game.
To me from everything I have seen and heard I am leaning more toward this game than the new Star Citizen. Going to be a exciting year for space gamers for sure!
HOPING STO has some exciting news for us at the Trek convention as well as they are promising now. I think they are going need it to compete in the future with these new games coming down the line, competition is good. :-)

Obviously, they're letting the computer generate systems and worlds based off of "building blocks" fed to it.
I wonder if we'll be allowed to name our own planet? I'll have to name mine the Wright planet. Then I can tell everyone "no not that planet! That's Wong. You want the Wright planet not the Wong one!" :P
I also wonder how long it would take for every one of those 400 billion systems to be visited by any player at least once.
The original game achieved 8 galaxies with 256 planets each , procedurally generated. This was on an 8 bit computer which is just incredible.
To be fair, a planet was a random set text, less than 50 words...
"the planet XYZ is a crappy place, colonized by green hairy cats" + a roll of (industrial, agricultural) and (rich, average, poor) and (anarchy ... democratic, 5 or 6 govt types which changed "hostility") and a function of those computed the prices for goods. Its going to take a lot more that that today. Its like unto the original arena (TES) which had random dungeons and such, easier to do in a simple world with basic graphics. With fancy graphics, they had to stop doing that...
elite had better controls (full 3-d space flight, 360 sphere targeting overlay was genius) than sto.
Actually, Elit
Agreed, although, if it is created as a time sink, I'll not be happy. That was the most annoying thing for me in SWTOR, that to get planetside, each time, I'd have to go through a series of space docking stations, long halls, shuttles, spaceports and more long tunnels. There'd occasionally be a mission or story bit there, but all in all, they could have just run me through it on those occassions alone, and offered me an option to assume all that and just "land" on the planet via some fast foward process.
hek game called X3 terran Conflict that has way more exploration than sto.........
system Lord Baal is dead
Video is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=q04axMTIIO8
Very VERY cool!!
Basically, to summarise, I've stopped wasting my life on Sto. The best space game ever created (imo) will be here on the 16th December. If you're not already playing Elite Dangerous then for the next couple of weeks prior to launch, you can get the pre-release pack which entitles you to get familiar with flying the ships, combat, docking and star system travel. You also get an extra ship to sell/use which helps for some quick cash generation. No more brick walls of sector blocks for me. I'll settle with free exploration of the biggest game ever created - featuring the real galaxy and 400 billion stars on a 1-1 scale. It's breathtaking to see the scale for yourself.
Here's my opinion I'd posted in the elite dangerous forums:
Thank you, good evening and goodbye . See you on the other side.

I'm already outside of the shed, looking back through the window at you and asking you if you want to see what the world has to offer. Don't let the door hit 'you' on your way out

Unless the game has changed then it wouldn't be possible, equipment gets bound in Sto and ships can't be traded. I'd rather keep my main ship and collections for sentimental value but give a year or so and I'll prob unnistall the game completely and be done with it. I keep track on the update emails so if they overhaul the space dynamics and make it more 'star trek', I'd be more inclined to consider returning.

I'm not arguing with anyone. Its clear you're trying to provoke a reaction but I'm fortunately not lowering myself to your level .
I posted my message to help others see that there's something better out there if they're into science, immersion and enjoying their selves. I can appreciate your point of view, but not the manner in which you've tried insulting me. When star wars came out, I was irritated by all the players jumping ship and ditching Sto. I stuck with sto for a very long time and achieved ranking that the majority of players wont reach. That's purely based on statistics.
By the logic I've described on this thread, you can clearly see that I'm not delusional, unless if you're intellectually challenged? That's a question based on your reply, not a taunt to provoke you, unlike your reply. Lastly I haven't ever heard of you so naturally you wouldn't care that I've left. Nor am I concerned that a random 'joe' is filled with negativity towards other people. That's just who you are. Unlike myself that explains the real situation for the benefit of others which obviously led you to be vindictive for no apparent reason.
I took the time to help others, so that they could enjoy something better. I've said all I have to. Hopefully see some of you in the 'future'
Best regards and good hunting,

Yeah buddy, some of the videos are awesome. You can build a headtracker for about the same price as a mouse which is breathtaking to use. They're called EDtracker and they move your onscreen view in relation to your real head. A similar product is trackir - but it costs about 10/15x the price. ED also has oculus support and you can use multiple joysticks, as well as voice commands. I'm using a ch pro throttle, T16000m joystick, with EDtracker and voice commands. I've never felt immersion like it. Check out some other videos on YouTube and you'll see for yourself buddy.
All the best, Evo
