xmas request: let us have frigate carrier pets

olliereportolliereport Member Posts: 721
So, first STO xmas here

kinda cool

I'm a carrier guy and the ship, ok, really neat

I see the frigate pet dependencies again, ok, ok. But ... does that mean since it's my first xmas event I won't be able to have frigate carrier pets? Bummer.

My playstyle is frigate only. I can't stand the fighters, they vanish like farts in the wind. Frigates die too, but it's a little bit less often and I like using them far far far better.

give us a way to get the frigate pets pls

(and if there is a way already, great!)

This will be the first sto christmas I'll be participating in as well and I agree.

I still use fighters anyway though heh.

Make a second character, have one character run for the carrier, the other for the frigate, each unlocking the discount for the other. One run each character each day, you'll have both ships in time for New Years.

    it's pretty standard,

    carriers come with fighters

if you want to use frigates (on most of them) you have to own another ship of that same type

EDIT: well I guess it's not most of the, more like some of them.

In general, you have to own both ships on the same char to unlock frigate purchase, but perhaps you are saying these are ship-crates, or maybe account bound?

    actually though ...

If you could flesh that out for me a bit I would appreciate it. What exactly is a run? And I'm guessing it's on a daily cooldown then?

Play a first char, and unlock the carrier. Play a second char and unlock the raider. Get back to the first char, run 1 race, and run the special project to unlock the raider.
As mentioned with the blog, when 1char of your account have unlocked the ship, the cost drop to 40autographs for all of your characters.

You drop into the Wonderland, get the daily quest from Q, then go down the ramp and talk to this Breen near a starting gate, he'll beam you onto a track. You race an NPC on a lap on an icy track, and if you win you get 40 pictures of Q, taking about 2 minutes altogether. If you lose the race or go off the track, you fail and go back to Q to try again. Once you've collected 1000 pictures (25 days), you use them in an Event project and get your ship. The race tends to throw people their first couple of tries, but once you learn how to control your slides and roll in the sharp turns, its really easy.

If another character in your account already owns the ship, all your other characters can buy their own copy of that ship for just 40 pictures instead of 1000. So for you, that'd mean you make two characters, each one doing one lap a day. Character 1 gets 1000 pictures and buys the carrier, Character 2 gets 1000 pictures and buys the frigate. Now, because Character 2 owns the frigate (and don't even have to open it, just own the box), Character 1 can run one more lap and buy his own frigate for only 40 pictures. 26 days, you now have two characters that both have the carrier and the frigate pets. And since we all have at least 3 character slots, there's nothing stopping you from getting both or even all three ships this way before the end of the Event.

And if you're really desperate you can even buy extra pictures with Lobi (1 lobi = 2-6 pictures), but thats really a waste of lobi unless there is no other way.

So no need for Christmas wishes, the system is already there for ya.

    1. Make sure you have 3 characters, if u dont, then quickly make 2 more (they might need to be lvl10 or something to take part in the event so need to lvl them quickly).

    2. Do the race each day on each of those 3 characters for 25 days.

    3. Use each character to unlock a different ship so that you unlock all three ships after the 25 days.

    4. On the 26th and 27th day run the race again for each character (or just on your main character if you plan to delete those other 2 if you are only using them to unlock the ships).

    5. With those 2 extra races done you can now "buy" the 2 other ships that each character didn't personally unlock.

    6. You now have all 3 ships and their console's set bonuses even if this is your first year!

    7. Now buy the Warp Core so you can get the 4th set bonus.

    Hope that helps :)

I can't begin to tell you how phenomenally helpful that information is, thank you

edit: thank you empok, reginamala78, erei1, etc

I do in fact have a couple other chars, not many at all, like 4. But, they are all doffers and miners though, login only once a day with them. I don't even think they have weapons equipped on their starships. Do they need to be geared in any way? Ground or space?

No, to get the Q photos you will need to run the daily race. Some frosty boots will help a lot, but as long as you know to run and turn quickly on ice you shouldn't have a problem with it.

Tip: jump-stop or roll at turns.

No they don't need a thing to get the ships since it's all ground based.
You might want to get one of the event ground weapons though. The evil snowmen can be taken down with snowballs that are lying around everywhere but the snow weapons are way more fun.

Feds need a frigate pet for the atrox and galx dreadnaught (in the same way scimmies can run drone ships).

Plain version is a Sabre. Advanced is Defiant. Elite is Phantom.

    Please make this happen.

And sell us the Jupiter class carrier. T6.

at lot of replies seem to be at cross purpose to your request, they are telling you how to get the frigate ship not frigate pets, although frigate pets are available for some larger ships they are not available for the Breen Sarr Theln carrier, only Bleth Choas Fighters, its probably a size thing.

you would need a ship the size of the Breen Capital Ship to launch frigate pets.

it is well worth getting the older ships in the way that has been suggested but if you only fly carriers then no.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

The Sar Thain does have frigate pets. Plesh Brek, Purchasable from the dilithium store for Advanced and Fleet stores for Elite. You have to own both ships the carrier and the Plash Brek to unlock them.

If you find you cant beat the other runner. do what I do disqualify mself. After three dqs you will NOT get an opponet to race against and can walk the entire race. (That is unless they "Fixed" that.)

Nope if you lose the race go back to the coordinator and get it again. keep doing it till you win. Winning is what starts the cooldown.

Yes to the frigate pets for Feds, no to your suggestions. The defiant, and phantom classes are not frigate ships, they are much larger. A fed frigate is actually the Miranda class.

Steamrunner or Sabre would be frigate size. The Miranda is closer to a light cruiser than a frigate. It's quite large compared to Jem Bug's and Romulan Turds.

Personally I think the Rom's should have T'Varo's as the Frigates. They are small enough for the job.

They are still referred to ingame as the Miranda Class Frigate. Still a little large, but a frigate, even if name only.

I dont really care much for the designation...frigate, bird of prey, escort, banana, toaster, whatever. Whats the actual size on the Defiant and the Miranda class though? I've seen for the Defiant LxWxH 170x134x30 and for the Miranda 277x173x65. Those are both from The ST: DS9 Technical Manual which i believe was created by the same people that were involved in the creation of the Defiant and Miranda class ships from the shows and movies. Of course there will be other measurements too with different spreads, but the ones i named from the same source and the source is supposedly the ones that created the original models.

That sounds about right for the Miranda and the Defiant. The Defiant is definitly smaller. Both are too large to be carrier pets though, even being "frigates." If they give a Starfleet version of a frigate pet it will need to be one of the smaller esorts (like the Aquarius, especially since it folds up), or to design a complete new ship for that purpose.

I myself really like the concept (and Roleplaying style) of carrier ships, and am looking forward to getting this one.

I wish we could have more specfiic commands we could give the carrier pets and for them to die a little less. I do not mind the amount of health they have, but they should have a little more innate dodge vs weapons, epsecially when so many ememies now do Fire at will. Also, while the AI was improved, they still die way too often to warpcore explosions.

Yah Aquarius would def make more sense but it kinda just makes me go "meh". There is something about flying a Voquv and having 4 Bird of Prey under your command. The pets themselves are pretty iconic (is that the word i'm looking for?). Flying with 4 pet Aquarius just doesnt seem like it would have the same cool factor as having 4 pet Defiant...or even 4 pet Miranda if you can get around them being too big.

Or they need to just design a huge FED carrier, larger than the Atrox, that could actually carry the frigate-sized ships that are already in-game. :D

Keep in mind that the mobulai and Jem'Hadar ships are both half the size that of the defiant class. That's not about designation. And the Aquarius is a tantamount size as well
