I listened to Al's Remarks on P1's Episode 200; and it leads me to ask what is the expect play time to get 1 spec point?
I have logged in everyday for the last week, I get on do the crafting stuff, I finished all the rep, I run a couple elite or advance queue as my fleeties prefer, but despite spending a fair amount of time, I am not progressing through xp bar much at all. I find this very frustrating. Is that working as intended? Do I just have to add one Arghala run a day to my routine if I want to make any progress? I continue to hope the devs will come to their sense and make spec points into the rep system.
I'm afraid this is currently working as the Devs intend it. I feel your pain. There's already a few threads about this issue and I don't think any Cryptic staff have contributed to them except to say things aren't changing.
Yeah it's been made pretty clear that the only thing that will enable real progression now it mindless grind in Delta Rising patrols. If you're not prepared to do that, then your woefully slow enjoyment-destroying pace is "working as intended".

Have you done this on Tribble? Cause that Tribble patch hasn't hit Holodeck yet and will not until Thursday, eh? So a discussion of what it is now when it is going to be different in a couple of days and that difference is already available on Tribble...well...
What about DOff assignments? It's pretty easy to queue up several every day, and if you crit a few it helps move the bar.
I was doing that and they were eventually stealth-nerfed so it didn't work well anymore. Remember the dev's simple rule: unless it's Argala, it's an Exploit.
I have 3 characters at level 54, hence 4 spec points, and I haven't even done any of the DR missions yet.
That's playing 1-2 hrs or so a day for the past 3 weeks doing nothing but the Mirror event, DOffing, and some STFs.
So you're not at level 60 yet? We're talking about specialization points after 60 here. 158,000 points per Spec point. Doff missions don't even move the bar.

From 0 to 60, It's not bad. Once you hit 60 you start needing 160k specialization points(experience). My tip is team up with a player and play Starbase 24 in a private knightmare mode advance to get points otherwise.
Play on Advanced, it's a bit monotonous and takes a bit longer to kill NPC's, but ya get quite a few more points than on Normal.

Let's say each argala is like half bar out of 10, you need almost 2 argala to fill a bar out of 10, so it's 20 argala per spec point. Now, let's say each argala took about 5-6min to complete it on normal difficulty, multiply for 20 and... ta-daaa we have 6'000min = 100h of argala to full your spec points :P
Correct me if i'm wrong.
edit: it's 100min x spec point, so 1h40m x spec point
edit2: let's hope in the new tribble patch, i heard they will double the xp and spec point experience gained x patrol...
it has taken me 6 weeks to take 3 characters from lv50 to lv60, in this possess I received 30 Specialization points over the 3 characters, that works out at 5 points per week.
therefore I estimate that it would take a player 12 weeks to take a single character from lv50 to lv60 with full Specialization.
so how long it will take a player to level up all the characters he wants depends on how many the player really needs with full Specialization and how many are just used for farming doff missions.
having said this even just farming doff missions will eventually get you there but will just take a little longer.
in case you are wondering most of my levelling was done with average 2hr play with maybe a little more at weekends, with just stf`s and other pve qued missions and the first 5 story missions played once each per character.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Level 50 to 60 is only part of the issue. Once you hit Level 60, if you have Intel ships and/or Intel boffs and want them to have Tier 3 Intel skills, you will need to have around 25 Spec Points in that specific toon. You cannot trade the Intel boff to another player to train, or get Intel boffs off the exchange to train, so you need to do it yourself. If you don't then that Intel boff is going to have lower level skills by game design. So if you're like me and have nine toons, that means gaining the first 10 Spec points by leveling up, then a further 15 Spec Points at the highest XP-per-level rate, for a total of 135 Spec Points to complete, at around 150,000 XP per level.
That means over 20 million XP to gain after leveling up to 60, at a few thousand XP per run... but only if I do that run at Argala. Anywhere else pays out vastly less XP.
If Specializations were indeed a toon-only extra (like a bonus), especially if it was non-battle-related stuff, then yes I wouldn't mind. But as designed, I have stupidly spent a wad of cash on a bunch of ships that cannot operate with fully-trained boffs until I get the points together.
Instead, the whole system is nothing more than an almighty nuisance... exacerbated by constant nerfing of anything non-Argala to turn the game into little more than a "one trick pony" Angry Birds knockoff with star trek ships.

you are assuming here that every player has ships with intel boffs ability because without a ship with an intel seat a slotted intel boff will act just like a regular boff without using any intel extras, that is why there are only a few ships that have intel enabled.
I will also add that I have used all of my intel ships and found them to be just as good as regular ships without having to worry about using the special intel abilities as a crutch.
I will also add that I intend to do the rest of my levelling in normal gameplay without the need to run at Argala.

Is that the current Argala or the one from Tribble?
It also seemed to me as if there wasn't really much talk about specializations in the topic, though of course the issue is strongly related. But the expections for gaining an actual level and gaining specializations may be different.

There's nothing in the last two tribble patch notes that suggest to me that I will see any major change.
I can't grasp the current logic, if they have made no mistakes and there are no error that Al is aware of how can the patrols be giving 1/3 the expected XP? and if they are giving a 1/3 less why did they only double the XP instead of tripping it?
As far as I can tell from those notes the only thing to do is grind the patrol missions if I want to see any advancement in spec. That just seems crazy to me. I can't grasp why they wouldn't buff queues XP?
If you're in a hurry to make skill points you'd better prepare to spend 24 hours a day in Argala.
Major gameplay fail.
Or if you're not in a hurry, then ideally don't bother at all and just accept that STO post-DR is a casual "whenever a new episode is released" game. Spec points, intel skills, Levels, all meaningless drivel to drive pointless grind. That's what I decided to do at least.
There are other ways, to make the SP, if you are not in a hurry.
I'm guessing you mean the Doff System?
While I agree with using the doff system for a list reasons, I don't feel like its doing much for me level wise ether. So I guess not in a hurry, is the question, I'm willing to put in the time, but if I'm not gonna make progress, I don't know what to say on it.
I can get one level/point every 2 days if I have nothing else to do all day but play sto. That is not repeating one mission over and over, but doing a wide variety of tasks. I am sure it can be done faster in that amount of time, but the fun factor of doing various things would be replaced by repeating one thing until sick of it.
On weeks where I have to work and do real life things, it is closer to 2 points a week.

There are DO assignments that net over 1000 points each in several zones. From responding to a challenge to the wave-dance in DR areas to bribing the local governers, you can daily get about 6k XP from DO assignments without really working at it. You can get even more, if you warp to every zone and check out missions in each one and make a chore of it. Hitting 2-3 zones for the best ones is still a significant amount of XP.
Doing the tasks that reward less than 200 xp is not going to do much for you at 60. Many of these are still worth doing .. blow up freighters for contraband or the various free crafting materials rewards ... but they are not worth doing FOR XP.

That's how I leveled up between 1000-3000 points each doing dof missions + a few other things, only play 2 hours a day & im past 60 but they wont come to you you have to go hunt them down.

I have tried it, it's the same as normal at best.
Advanced pays out more points, but the time difference it takes to finish a patrol is longer so in my experience it equals out.
The one thing Cryptic has done remarkably well in DR is making absolutely sure that there is no good or efficient way to get skill points.
They have clearly put all their time and effort into making sure it's as much of a grind as humanly possible.
