Tac Captain Vessel

Hello.:D

Long story short...

I have been using normal ships mostly since I started, but I finally broke down and took advantage of the Zen discount and hopefully today's C-store sale. I know through research on my own what each tac ship is and what it is capable of, but I want the opinion of seasoned veterans with such vessels already in their possession.

What I humbly request for are what would be your top three selections for escorts/tacs for a Fed Tac captain with a brief pro/con and what sets this ship apart (for you personally) from the vast selections available. The selection is only limited to a Fed tac captain and can include all sources, including, but not limited to Lobi store, C-store, event rewards, dilithium, fleet, etc. The only other requirement I need is it to be at least T5-U or T6. If it is only a T5, please be very specific on how this vessel does not need the advantages the T5-U or T6 currently possess.

In the 'your opinion part' of the vessel choice, if possible, please be more substantial than 'just because' or 'its so cool' (you get the drift).:P

I thank any and all who respond to this before midnight (when the C-store sale ends).

TAC Fed Captain here, I've extensively played with and can recommend the following:

By far the #1 Fed Escort ship in my opinion is...
    T6 Phantom:
The new Intel abilities set this apart from other Escorts.
-OSS1/2/3 ups your Weapons (and all other) power to max potential 155/165/175 temporarily - really adding burst.
-Ionic Turbulence is an AoE Cloud for 20s that is basically another Attack Power Beta (stacks with it), multiplying your damage potential
-Surgical Strikes 1/2/3 ups your crit chance by 20%/30%/40% (to be nerfed to 20%/25%/30%), AND it works on every weapon type, allowing you to mix beams and cannons. AND it benefits from DOFF's which reduce CD on beam/cannon attacks. Great for single target focus.

Did I mention it can cloak out of combat, without needing a console?
It also has the new Intel skill that exposes target vulnerability (reduce target defense, weapons, etc.)

Use SS plus OSS and the usual debuffs (and Intel Expose for big boss targets), and stuff melts faster than ever.

But the very best of all is the Phantom T5 starship trait (which you can re-use on any other starship later once you earn it), arguably the very best in the game so far, by far.... Reciprocity. With this trait, every time an enemy misses you, your Tactical AND Intel abilities have their CD reduced by 10%. Insane!! Think about all Tac and Intel abilities close to global CD (as long as you are being shot at), with no other tricks needed. No A2B, No special DOFF, No Bio-Neural Gel Pack needed, etc.

And since you are in a speedy escort with speed/defense tanking, you will get missed all the time.

This trait makes every ship you own, or will ever own, so much better!!

#2 is the T5-U Maelstrom (Fleet/Patrol Escort Refit)
    - Still a great ship, and the previous Escort king
    - But no further "known" upgrade path unlike the T6's.

I have no #3 escort, but worthy of mention is the T6 Eclipse Cruiser, "The TAC captain's cruiser"
    -Same Intel abilities as above.
-Turn rate very fast for a cruiser
-More Tanky then an escort, yet 8 weapon slots.
-Cloaks out of combat, no console
-Plenty of TAC BOFF slots, and should gain another TAC console at Fleet level later.

If you can afford it, get the Delta Operations Pack at discount. You get Eclipse, Phantom, 3 other fed ships to unlock traits on, 3 VR Bridge Intel BOFF's, 3VR DOFF's only available in the pack. Best of which is.....
Agent Nerul - Heals you +0.2% of your hull on every shot while Attack Pattern Beta is up. That's over
30% of your hull in an 8 beam FAW.....

Aesthetically, the DR pack unlocks all the nacelle choices for the 3 new Intel ships, so you can mix and match for more options/variety if the looks of one of them is of importance.

    _______

    My Rec:
    #1 Buy the Phantom
    #2 See #1
#3 Buy the DR Operations pack - which has the Phantom. Do you notice a trend here? :)

Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision.

Enjoy your purchase and the game!

If escort I'd say Phantom. It's T6 or nothing for me at this point. Feeling what the Phantom can do is Bar none the best of the best for escorts, IMO.

Although I prefer Cruisers. Once I played with the phantom and other T6's I can't go back.

Honestly, at this point.. if you want an Escort you would have to be a little nuts to not go Phantom. :D

Seriously, the ship is just vastly superior to any other Escort. Not that there aren't good choices at T5-U, because there are.. but the Phantom is great. The only downside is it's not the best looking ship. If you like the look or the look doesn't bother you, then you should be flying it. Also, as mentioned above, it has the best T6 ship trait of any ship out there.

If you're looking for a Tactical Escort that can melt foes in mass, the Phantom is king of the hill.

The third option would be the Patrol Escort Refit, but that's a non-canon hull (I believe). These three (and the Andorian Kumari) are the only 5-tac-console T5 fed escorts.
    .

The Charal is also a 5 tac console ship at T5U

I've played the Fleet Prometheus Class upgraded... its nice. VERY NICE. Lt. Cmd sci is a lovely thing to have.

So is the T5u Tempest Class. But I rarely play Phasers on my ships. That fused aft rail gun is annoying that you can't swap out or change to a different energy type.

The Phantom is also a great choice... I just want the fleet version due to the better shields and hull.

Seriously?! The Vesta is far superior to the Dauntless. The Wells and the Vesta are the two best science ships in my opinion.

Everyone has their own taste, but to me..

Guardian is superior to the Odyssey.

I'm laughing my cat butt off at this ATM. Stop labeling. Oh look that ship has the most tac TRIBBLE, thus, all tacs MUST HAZ. Phantoms great for tacs, but in noob or even average hands it's a fragile ship. Granted not as bad as defiant, but still shaky. Second, IMO eclipse is subpar to guardian. Eclipses purpose is destroyed. A battle cruisers with 4 fore weapons 4 rear... Lols guardian is more bands with better layout and, IMO, console. Patrol is an all rounder but is my... Eh. Something. My first choice ship for all round awesomeness is narcine... But it's a little OP especially in right hands. Did a 5v1 with that monster, many actually and won all times. Second would be patrol, phantoms too crispy to be my second with that limited REGULAR boff layout. Guardians 3rd for me, a wee more tanky than my narcine especially with that console active. Defiant and phantom as fourth as I can't resist going into a few vape battles. Also remember this peeps. Fly a weak but strong ship every once in a while - a glass cannon, to keep your skills sharp and not get comfortable in extremely well laid out ships. Such as scimitar or narcine, designed to pound easily and take massive damage. Pets enhance damage, com tac enhances damage, lt com unis enhance tank, consoles enhance tank (scum secondary shielding) so they average highly in damage and tank, but you can't beat the defiant in pure evasion, speed and surprise damage. You can't make the scimitar or narcine EVER turn as well as a defiant or move nearly as quickly, but the defiant and phantom keep you on your toes. Kumari's too. Back to good ships list, avenger is good but getting outdated (sob) ody'a still have tank undeniably but are also... Uh losing viability. TSABC is still up there, things a beast next to ody's on tanking if it wants to be. As for science ships... I don't know. Any tactical powers applied to sci ships become overpowering or suck. Overpowering: grav well (eh) tbr (Houston...) fbp (welllll shiiiiiiiii-boom) underpowering: tachyon beam, tractor beams (has it's moments but eh) sensor scramble, sensor jam (just LOL with tacs) mask energy sig ( hey Jim is that a ship 20km away? It's using MES3...) and any power drain is meh unless you're really invested in it so yeah...

I'm a Tac Capt level 55 who spent all of my time in Cruisers ... Up until recently where I went against the grain a bit and just got the Armitage Heavy Escort Carrier. Why? Hangar pets. I can't tell you about any other Escort but this one is a hell of a ship even compared to flying my Guardian.

Keep in mind I'm a newb and no where near as knowledgable as the previous posters. Also, My next ship purchase will be more planned out but Flying a hard hitting quick turning escort with 2 squadrons of Peregrine Fighters backing you up is just awesome.

    Be well.
