Very first Escort

Want to try a Escort for a newly created Tac Captain (had Eng Cruiser before).
In a few days I will be Level 50 and want to buy a T5-U Escort but I'm not sure which one.

I'm unsure if i should take the Tactical Escort Retrofit or the Patrol escort refit.

As i am not member of a fleet and also see no sense in joining one as I play not nearly enough to participate in a useful way and joining just to get that Tokens is just not fair I cannot get fleet variants.

Which one of these escorts do you recommend for Maximum damage output?

I think about building a beam boat. Up to now just loot from Story missions and Standard weapons/consoles are available, but i hope to get better gear soon.

    The defiant c store is 2500 zen, 500 zen for fleet module and 700 to upgrade to t5u. 3000 zen for just the phantom. It also comes with a great ship trait. Think about it. It usually irritates me when people give 2 options they want, then someone says something completely different, but I'm going to be that guy. Get the phantom, it's so much better.

    Fair enough, not claiming t6 is cheaper, (assuming just the c store ship)* but if you're paying zen for everything, you'd be paying more for an inferior ship. To OP, if you must get a t5u, I'd go with the patrol escort over the defiant. Last time I post here, looks like there are even more trolls here than in Kerat.

    If you'll really go for a T5U I too would recommend the patrol escort/refit (whatever layout you prefer).
    The Defiant is still "nice" but not the top dog and it's cloak which requires a valuable console slot is not very helpful in times where battlecloaks are almost everywhere and 3 tac ensign slots are a pretty terrible layout in most cases it's a completly wasted slot.



    Also the phantom kicks TRIBBLE, I know it's expensive and it takes alot of time to get enough zen via the dil exchange but again it kicks TRIBBLE.

    After flying all cruisers as a Tac Captain, I decided to buy the Heavy Escort Carrier. While it's not an official carrier per se, the addition of the hanger pets is really cool on an escort. It's defiantly taking some getting used to but it's quite a powerful ship.

    I'm a newb though, and this is the only escort I have flown but I'm digging the DPS output.

    Well...With the "black Friday Sale"...they say EVERYTHING (T6 Ships???) in the C-store is for sale...soo...good time to pick up any escort that gets your eye twitching
    ...unless cryptic is blowing smoke again...

    If you're going to buy something, Phantom or Patrol Escort Refit. Phantom is just plain MEAN with the intel skills, but the PER has much more flexibility with that Universal LtCmdr.

    Both are excellent. The T6 intel skills on the Phantom makes it an evil little ship. Having an innate cloak is also handy.

    The PER is also very dangerous, and it can take a fair beating as well. I particularly enjoy the rear mounted cannon. Its fun to strafe your opponent going in AND going out ;)

    I wish they would let you test fly ships prior to purchasing.
