Questions About Future Specializations

When this new Specialization system was announced and then released, I was generally enthusiastic. Having spent the past month in Delta Rising and the extreme grind that leveling is has led to a question that has tempered that enthusiasm: When a new Specialization is released, why should I bother with it?

My meaning is this, it takes so long to level our characters up. In the weeks since Delta Risings launch I have personally only gained 12 specialization points on my main character and one each on two others. With all that time and effort put into gaining specializations in Intelligence, why would I want to try something new? Will I even be done with Intelligence by the time a new specialization is released?

We gain buffs from Intelligence that are pretty neat, I wouldn't want to give all of those up to try another specialization (We can only have one primary specialization active at a time). Sure I can just put points into the new specialization while keeping Intelligence active, but that's boring. It gives me no enthusiasm for anything new as it will take a ridiculous amount of time to get a new specialization to match Intelligence. Heck, if I'm not even done with Intelligence when a new specialization comes out, why should I even put points into the new one? I'd just keep working on Intelligence.

Another thing would be the Tier 6 ships. New ones will probably be released along with a new specialization, but what about the old ones? Will they be adjusted so that we can use any new boffs that come with a new specializaiton with those ships. Some of the ships are specifically Intelligence ships and those are fine, I'm wondering about the non intel ships such as the Guardian or Pathfinder. Will their Intel hybrid seats be changed to simple Specialization hybrids seats (Or are they like that already and they'll just get a simple cosmetic name change when a new specialization comes out?).

Ideally, it would be nice if they would go back and make the current Intel hybrid slots UniSpec (Universal Specialization) on non-Specialization specific ships (Guardian for example) as new Specializations are released. Easiest and smartest way to make some money off the non-Specialized ships without taking away too much time and effort from whatever new Specialization ships they're working on, while still giving those older ships enough flexibility to adapt to a certain extent.

Additionally, if not making them truly UniSpec, they could at least allow use of certain specializations that fit certain ships. Cruisers I could easily see being made UniSpec (being the gigantic all-in-ones and masters of only broadsiding and tanking), with Sci ships having access to Intel and some other Specialization that has some Sci elements. Currently, Intel is a hybrid Tac and Sci Specialization. The next Specialization could favor Eng and Sci, which would make both Intel and the new theoretical Specialization fit Sci ships. Escorts and Tac-oriented ships could have access to both Intel, and some future specialization that is Tac and Eng-oriented.

Realistically however, they will probably just release another ship that is practically identical in stats and capability to those non-specialized ships, just with a new visual hull to sell, only swapping the Intel slot for the new Spec. Though that still leaves the possibility that they might be able to share the same skins, and share the same consoles.

In other words, realistically they'd probably make 2 or 3 of the same base ship (statwise and maybe Boff-wise), but switch the Intel hybrid with the new specialization, and sell it with a new console and skin, and later as a 2 or 3 ship bundle. Sort of like if the Odyssey/Scimitar/Bortesqu sub-variants each had a different Specialization, but the same Boff loadout, core stats, and unique console (they all have different console loadouts though).

Personally? I would much prefer the idealized choice; for the very reason I'd like to see Specialization-specific ships include a themed bridge and a unique but still faction-design based look like the Intels, while not making those non-specialization specific ships obsolete. And on Cryptic's end, guarantees sales of those Non-Specialized ships as players pick out what best works for them, rather than force feeding them non-specialized ships that are 95% the same excluding visual and Specialization.

the trick will be to make the newer speacializations just as useful as the current ones with out making them "obsolete". Intel is very debuff and defence heavy, maybe the next set will focus on offence? I'm sure many players would flock to a new specialization if it meant adding a few points of DPS. The only thing that concerns me is its my understanding that boffs are not tradable so if you want to train T3 intel skills you have to do it yourself, the addition of another set will force players to do both :(

Don't worry new Specializations will be released the same time, when "the second half of DR" is going to be released, which was just held to be released .... "NEVER" .... ;P

I think that the point of new specialization is for if you either haven't already invested into any or have maxed all current specializations. If you're fine with Intel, there's really no reason for you to bother with a new primary.

If it doesn't interest you, then don't bother with it. These aren't mandatory.

My god. This should be the motto of Delta Rising. Ok to take this as a sig?

Where does this talk about the "second half" come from. I never seemed to have read anything about this from official sources. It's just something that is circulating the forums and occasionally popping up. Some Seasons were split up, so some might make the assumption that is a precedent and Delta RIsing is likely similar, but I've seen no evidence of that. (Doesn't mean it does not exist, but... I missed it so far.)

Well I'm just making fun of it, but that's something every White Knight came up with, during the first weeks of DR ... afaik it was from some Interview which simply stated "not every part of DR is going to be released at once" ... shouldn't be too hard to find, though ...
