Salvage Specialist questions

I would like some more details on this trait.

1) What does random R&D materials mean? Does that mean VR mats? Does that possibly mean salvage technology components? If this is just the white and green stuff, who cares right?

2) I know that it is currently broken but I read somewhere that the captain salvage trait and the BoFF trait do not stack. Can someone confirm this by linking a dev post? I thought it may work like other stacking procs where each guy would possibly give you a chance at salvage.

3) I also read that it can only proc once every 60 seconds but again no confirmation. Can someone link the confirmation if this is true?

4) I know you can get these from lobi store, are there any other ways to get a talaxian boff? Are there any talaxian Doffs?

I've had the Lobi Store Talaxian BOFF that allegedly has this trait since DR launched, but in all the space battles I've been in I have yet to see one piece of anything brought in via Salvage.

The Talaxian Salvage Specialist Trait is completely broken, as per this thread. Supposedly Cryptic made a fix but did not make it in time for last week's patch. Should be in this week's update.

    We shall see.

Also note that it will probably be random salvage, mostly lower quality. Just typical anomaly scan type materials only as a chance on kill. Still that makes it great for Foundry players, who can't normally get crafting supplies.

I kinda think it would be cool if they could somehow tie other species BOffs with Salvage Specialist traits or similar traits into Foundry play. Maybe not a Talaxian but maybe Investigate Officer Reports could have a box as an option in place of dilithium that would have a loot table of Foundry-play supporting items.

And spotlight missions could have a similar box?

Traits on the BOffs like say a Ferengi with Salvage Specialist, a Hirogen BOff with a trait like "Foundry Warfare Specialist" that gives them bonus damage inside Foundry missions and against photonic enemies outside the Foundry. That kind of thing.

Because foundry players are incapable of doffing?

Yeah...it's still broken. Apparently they have the fix and it didn't make it into last weeks patch but should be in the patch tomorrow. I haven't touched my talaxian yet because it isn't working. I was thinking I would get some decent crafting mats but when I originally read it, "Salvage" I thought that meant "salvage" which is VERY valuable. I figured a chance at this every time you kill a ship when you are killing thousands of ships could be really nice.

I don't suppose we will know until this is fixed and people start seeing this stuff drop. Let's revisit this tomorrow and list the items people are getting from their salvage.

I did some testing on tribble. 2 runs of Argala (1 normal 1 minimum weapon power and no tac boffs) gave 10 white, 3 green, and a blue. A friend of mine has said he got a purple once.

well about time! This is the first I have heard of anyone actually getting anything at all with it. I made a guy and put all turrets on his ship so he would hit it more times in the sweet spot and 0 mats after 2 or 3 hours of combat (live, not tribble).

If they get it working I may try it again. Live, they fixed the gender issue but not the trait being a space trait icon.

This trait is going to have to be *very* impressive for me to really go for it though. I get sacks and sacks of the lesser materials from DO rewards & STFs. If it takes a full hour of killing to get the rewards of one STF box, forget it.

That said I do like the race. For a race that is not warlike, they are tolerable.

This is very encouraging. I have a Talax capt. I wonder if a Talax Boff will stack. Could make an interesting type of game play to run a salvage/crafting crew.

I really like the idea of different races giving a bonus/trait like this. Makes for some interesting gameplay.

It is always single drops. So you'll get 1 white/green/blue (/purple?) at a time. Mostly whites with a few greens and the occasional blue.

No idea if it stacks. It definitely procs more than once per 60 seconds (or maybe that was meant as once per 60 seconds per ship?) when fighting lots of enemies. No components, only materials, no idea if that includes salvage but if it does then the odds will be ridiculously small.

I have only seen white single drops so far. I have a talax capt and a capt with a talax boff. The talax boff has seen the most action and I usually get a single drop per encounter. But like I said, it has, at this point, always been white.

Anyone else see a purple drop? A few blue drops or a purple drop would make this trait worth it but for white and greens, not worth it at all.

I probably should have emptied out my R&D inventory before testing so I could get precise measurements but it does drop some blues. Maybe 1 blue per 30 drops (totally spitballing here)? I think I got maybe 10 blues from a few hours of combat vs 6-10 enemies at a time.

Yeah, I've gotten a couple of Trellium-K very rares after several days' worth of doing mainly story missions, and I can also confirm stacks (most I've seen is three mats at once, an uncommon and two commons).

I'd also like to point out that the main reason most of you are only seeing a single proc per encounter is that the trait has a cooldown, for something like 15 seconds, after it procs. You really gotta milk those encounters to get more than one proc, so if you're killing stuff ASAP you're not gonna get much out of this trait.

I've gotten Radiogenic Particle twice from running Conduit Advanced. I've gotten a few blues as well from the Advanced queues but probably a good place to farm would be Argala on Advanced difficulty.

I have had Blue Drops from the Salvage Specialist Trait. It's not a common thing, mind you. I considered myself fairly lucky. But with the increase to enemy hull % remaining, you're far more likely to get R&D loot to begin with now.

It works now. Maybe for about 2 weeks or something like that.
