"A Step Between Stars" fails to sell me the Dyson Destroyer

I am in the process of doing that Episode mission several times with different characters, and i have to say that if it's trying to sell me the Dyson Destroyer, it fails miserably.

Those characters of mine currently fly with MK X white gear, and I'm doing the episode precisely to get the Solanae gear with them. I have no problems whatsoever flying my white gear ships in most PvE missions. However, whenever I have to (forcibly) fly the Dyson Destroyer in the mission, I end up being destroyed several times, no matter how defensively I play. Take note that this is on NORMAL difficulty.

Yes, I adjust the Dyson Destroyer build as far as I can (setting keybinds, adjusting power levels, etc), but that's the most I can do, as gear and abilities are all locked in. I am a fairly decent PvE player and experienced with game mechanics. But even if I throw every bit of buff that the Dyson Destroyer offers, as timely as I can, the Undine ships still overwhelm me easily. My white gear ship is vastly superior to what that Dyson Destroyer can do, both in damage output and survivability.

That said, I know that a well-built Dyson Destroyer can perform very well. But the one offered in the mission seems to be poorly built. Even with all power to weapons and all buffs active, the damage is way underwhelming. Defensively, shields do not last even with two copies of Protonic Shields and the other defensive buffs. Then, two torpedoes at most and it goes down. Again, this is on Normal difficulty.

I wonder how other players feel about this or if they had similar experiences.

I actually like the Dyson ship, shame i got it on my Eng toon when it was in the event......As for being blown up, never had that problem but, i have not played that mission since pre Delta, so i have no idea if they buffed the npc's in there.

Well, I played this mission a couple of times recently (after playing it when it was new for all my toons to get the Dysons for them) and I felt like it was *much* tougher than before. Not really sure why, if the Undine got buffed with everything else in DR, or if the mission version of the Dyson has acquired a new bug, but it certainly felt squishier.

Nah, on normal you shouldnt have any problems with it.

Sadly, you are correct, the build is very bad. However, of all the builds you have to fly in this game, made by the devs for you, this is actually one of the better two. Which is really, really sad.

Might be that the NPCs have been buffed, or Undine is just generally hard (not my perception when I fight them in other missions without problems); or that I'm just used to fly sturdy ships and the Destroyer is not that tough. Either way I'm not sure how to do that mission without getting destroyed more than twice. Attack Pattern Tuvok is an angry AoE that makes everything fire back and ignore my allies. I only have a chance when the KDF ship shows up and takes some of the aggro. Even so, if my defenses are on cooldown, the Dreadnoughts will one-shot me with their BO and/or torpedoes. So my only option is to flee if I want to survive.

I will give it a few more runs this week and see if I can record a video of it to see what I'm doing wrong.

I own the kdf DSD C-store pack its TRIBBLE kar'fi is a miles better ship for my kdf sci.

The problems ur faceing is that u probs dont know how to use the dev picked boff powers.
Little hint try and drag one ship away from the mob if they are mobing you. Keep moving dont sit in one place. Best forum of defence is attack ohh yer dont forget to use system targeting if your in sci mode.

I agree with the OP, the ship is a POS.

I blew up a few times before figuring out the ship I was stuck with would have been better suited clearing asteroids and I employed a hit and run approach to lure one away. The last one was a real pain. He was much harder than the first two.

I played this mission at level 57 and it was a total disaster. I don't know what went wrong with the scaling of the npcs, but I now know, I will never ever buy that ship. It was a really horrific experience, I just wished I could get done with that bull**** and get my mirror ship back to play the game.

I stoped the mission and went on. Later after a few spec points at lvl 60 I played it again and it was easy peasy. Something is clearly broken there, but I thought it is part of the new design concept to make it tough and endless boring.

It cannot figure out if it wants to be a science ship, or it wants to be a giant Escort. And as a result, it is horrible at both jobs.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

Post-DR the enemies have gotten more difficult. Nothing was more frustrating than worrying about having to redo the mission after getting 1-shotted by the Undine at the end. Had to play this 6 times (3 times per character) just to get all gear.
