Okay... So the T5U vs. T6 controversy is in full force and we don't know where Lockbox ships will fall. It seems unlikely to me that Cryptic could get full lockbox price for them again. At the same time, Fleet quality and T5U status were provided for free and I can't expect Cryptic wants these to be freely upgraded forever.
So I have a thought that may work but which I also figure should be filtered through the community.
They could introduce Tier 6, 3k ZEN versions of the lockbox ships.
Except these new versions would have none of the visuals and special consoles or perks.
Let me give an example:
Take the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship.
They introduce the following:
Federation Attack Ship.
Klingon Attack Ship.
Romulan Attack Ship.
These three new ships are 3k ZEN each and sold in a bundle for 5k ZEN.
Cmdr Tac, Lt. Eng/Int Hybrid, Lt Cmdr Universal, Lt Universal, Lt. Universal
5 Tac, 3 Eng, 1 Sci (Gains one Eng at Fleet T6)
The new ship includes a new console (which is also usable on the old ship.)
Now, you don't get the hangar pet or the appearance of the JHAS in the T6 version. The ship is said to be based on the Jem'Hadar ship with Starfleet, KDF, and Romulans each supplying their own 2410 updated take. If you own the JHAS, you get the tailor option to use the JHAS appeaerance (and maybe make this appearance option account wide on the new ship to sweeten the deal).
And follow this forward with other ships.
For example, a T6 Temporal Destroyer with a new console and a 2410 look rather than a 29th century look. The new console adds to the set bonus of the existing consoles but you need the lockbox versions for the old consoles. Owning the lockbox ships allows you to use their visual model but the T6 version has its own visual look and does not come with the lockbox visuals or consoles.
Additionally, these new ships would use default bridges/interiors for faction (including C-Store optional ones) but would gain the lockbox bridge options for owners of the lockbox ships.
This would make T6 ships desirable and level the playing field mechanically while calling for some upgrade expense on the part of lockbox ship owners. On the other hand, maybe the value for lockbox ship owners would be T6 ships that can equip equivalent lockbox consoles and the option to use lockbox ship visuals and bridges account-wide if they own one of the corresponding lockbox ships.
This would be so much work though, having to do 3 reskins of every locbox/lobi ship.
The flipside is that while they would have to do this, it would mean plenty of new Klingon and Romulan C-Store ships with very light mechanical requirements since the basic ship mechanics are designed and tested.
Haha. Really just because the hangar pet is the closest thing the JHAS has to a specialty console and specialty consoles would still require the lockbox ship version. The T6 version would have some new perk and the basic loadout of the lockbox ship but would require the lockbox/lobi ship for the extras that came with that.
The main problem I can see with this, if I understand what you are saying, is why would anyone then buy keys to get lockbox ships?
3k Zen vs the small fortune that some pay to get lockbox ships would be a bad business move.
For the unique visuals and consoles/weapons. If necessary, they could even upgrade the consoles/weapons.
But based on the lockbox ships I see daily (and they aren't often the ones that are mechanically better ships), I think the unique visuals would still be a major draw. You might see a 20% drop or so in the exchange price (and more for the JHAS) but Orion Diplomacy BOffs still sell for fifty million+ EC despite being a cosmetic thing.
Heck, if someone wanted a JHAS now, they'd be buying keys to trade for EC to buy a JHAS. But the keys they'd buy don't have a huge direct effect on Cryptic's bottom line because they're traded for unsunk EC that remains active in the economy, making the value effect very indirect. And people would still do that for the pretty visuals.

the only problem is that many of us want the bug just for the hangar option. face it the bug has been marginal for a bit of time now and completely outclassed by the t-6 ships, yet they are still wildly expensive on the exchange if they even get there and are not sold via other devices. hell, even the gold spammer price the bug higher than the entire DR pack
to move the bug to t6 and not enable the hangar would be a real issue with the carrier owners who would not have any hope to access to the hangar in the future

I think they should just make them all t6. Give some time into giving them all unique traits and stuff, and just go with that.
They technically cost the same anyway (bar lobi)
For example, you can get a Benthan (t6) for the same price as any other t5 lockbox ship.
So just make them all tier 6, and this way they keep money incoming for the games biggest revenue source

Why do you hate people?

If they run out of ideas for new lockbox ships, they may at some point revise the old ones. In new lockboxes.

As someone who owns multiple lockbox ships, I really don't think that would be a financially wise idea for Cryptic.
The evil/manipulative thing often is the profitable thing but I wouldn't assume that the manipulative approach is ALWAYS the most profitable.
I think they would lose money if they did that.
