Well I am not supporter of Sela, but why did the devs turned her looks into the frog? I was thinking it is a caricature and the whole episode was a joke... But it was not. She is...well...ugly now.

There was the frog prince,,, but now the frog empress? Well then, who's going to make the kiss to save her?! Hahaha!

Though I must admit, I don't exactly remember what she looked like before, I don't have a good memory for faces and I can't personally say she looks bad.

honestly it looks closer to denise crosby's actual jaw line imo than the older pointy face

They could slim down the jawline a smidge.

So, we are more true to her looks then now. Then I'd say they did their job remaking her appearance. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and the idea is to recreate Sela as accurately as possible to how she was in real Star Trek, not be a re-beautification contest of canon characters that makes them hardly look like they should. So I think Sela is fine and true to her appearance or very close to it. *posts updated campaign posters of her on New Romulus* :P

You try being imprisoned by malevolent mushrooms in subspace while your crew is taken away one by one and killed in horrible ways for months and see how you look afterwards.

She'd be more gaunt, not fatter.

She's been in captivity for months. It's not inconceivable that this is actually a poor quality replicant sent to deceive us.

Yeah the strange thing is that she looks more like Kes with green blood now.

she is like 40 years older than in TNG...40 years of increased age aren't kind to women, even if they are alien mongrels.

Some people seem to think prison is like a luxury hotel stay.... heads up: its not. especially not at the masters of the universe enslavement camp.

I get the impression that the first Sela was made to look like she did in TNG but that was ages ago now. I think the new Sela probably reflects what she would look like now, older obviously.

For example, imagine if they made Captain Kim look exactly like he did when he was an Ensign, it wouldn't make sense IMO.

I see the difference, but the new model looks actually more like denise crosby than the old one. The old was like the old STO worf that looked nothing like michael dorn. The original STO sela was like a generic NPC as well. Now, the new model is somewhat flawed, just like the robert picardo look alike we have. They look somewhat... stiff and a bit off.

Well, I hope the didn't delete the old Sela. That model could still be used as an effective Senior Tal Shair NPC if the hair is changed to raven black, and the colors of her uniform are also changed.

I thought it was supposed to better show her age. But I really don't know if romulans would age as much as humans.

Well... they live longer that much we know, but we don't really know how long they stay youthful. Hiren and most of the senators in insurrection didn't look young.

Without a doubt, the new Sela is closer to the live-action version.

In addition, who cares, really? If you want to get your rocks off on animations, google some hentai. Jeeeez.

Non-canon sources give 250 years as a lifespan for Romulans.

The word "senator" derives ultimately from PIE *sen- (which means "old"). The original ideal of "senate" seems to have been akin to a tribal "council of elders."

But of course it is open how her mixed heritage influenced that. Spock as half-human, half-Vulcan seem to have no problems to reach the "normal Vulcan age" (or so it seems more or less - and he had a tough life), but I do not know if it is the same with a Romulan-Human mix...

She's the same age now as T'Pol was on Enterprise. She should not look like an old hag. Being half human isn't an excuse, Spock was half human and seemed to age the same as a full blooded Vulcan.

Really? Cause it looked like he was aging in appearance at the same rate as Kirk and McCoy. Maybe you haven't seen the movies?

My initial theory was that the devs did this as a legal workaround to the old Sela's apparently-not-quite-authorized availability to Foundry authors as a stock NPC costume. I figured they must have left that costume (labeled "Romulan Ensign Female 04" in the Foundry editor) untouched so that it would no longer resemble Denise Crosby's in-game likeness.

However, checking that costume in the Foundry, I see that it too has been updated to reflect Sela's new, uglied-up look - a curious move on the devs' part, as CaptainSmirk long ago admonished Foundry authors not to use the costume to represent Sela herself. (The costume carries a tongue-in-cheek description of an ensign who just happens to resemble Sela.)

I'm not sure how much weight to give Smirk's comment. I don't remember how much he actually looked in to it.
