I running my PC on a 28inch TV as was wondering if there is any way I can get STO to run at a custom resolution other than the ones that are provided? I would like something like 1240x1024 if possible on a gtx 650.
Also I have noticed that you can only select different resolutions when running in Full-screen though when I change windows cause sometimes I'm doing Facebook and chat as well as STO. Is there anyway to sort this out so I can select the custom resolution while still going from window to window?
When you go to the launcher there's an options menu. Uncheck "fullscreen" and it will load in a dynamic window. It doesn't save this setting, so you'll have to change it whenever you want more than one window up when you're playing STO.
My Old Blog about things that could and should have been added when I wrote it. Not sure what I want to do with it now. I'll just keep it available now that most of it is outdated.
That all fine but I still cant get it to run the game higher than 1240x768 and at that resolution on a big screen everything is massive. Im trying to force it to run the game in something like 1824x1014 which is what my desktop runs at but no luck so far.
Try the full screen settings. In one of the options menus (I think its basic or display) you can switch between full screen mode, windowed mode, etc. I use windowed maxi.used mode. Since I have an HDMI cable outputting the video from my laptop to my 32 inch, I can make the game fit to the TV screen size, and keep the same resolution from my computer screen. It should work the same way.
Doesn't allow any resolution higher than 1280x768 under full-screen as well as the launcher won't save the option when I change to fullscreen in there.
the issue is your TV. Televisions do not have the same resolutions as a monitor has. where a monitor may support a dozen resolutions, a TV may only support 5 or 6.
one brand that does seem to support more (and higher) resolutions is LG
Try loading the game, go into the options, change it from full screen to window maximized, then see if you can select the resolution you want. I get some very strange aspect ratio when trying to run my game at 2560X1080 but it works fine.

I think this is your problem. Without knowing your specific hookup situation, it may be that your TV literally cannot run in a higher resolution.
You do, however, have at least a decent graphics card. Assuming your cooling is ok on it, you may want to run the game in fullscreen mode and try the in-game command /renderscale 2 .
That will have the game engine render the graphics to look more sharp, but can be very taxing on your machine. The option is designed for taking high-quality screenshots, but in the right circumstances, it may improve your experience with the game. Be warned, though, that it should only be tried after your other attempts have failed.
