I do the mining mini game everyday on 5 of my characters. It is so boring. I propose something to help spice it up and maybe give ppl who don't do it a incintive to do it. I say keep the rewards up to 700 the way they are. After that if ppl get a score of 800-900 give them 1 rare material. If they get a score of 1000 or higher give them 1 very rare material. The rewards don't really mean that much. I think it would help keep the mini game fresh and enjoyable. What do you think?
Th rewards definitely need to be upped. I tried this for the first time the other night after roughly a year of playing, and yeah....Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Would rather just fight it out in Defera space for my crystals. Same amount of time (maybe a touch more) and MUCH larger payout, plus the occasional drop.
The incentive as far as I can tell, is to also incorporate the enriched dilithium claim from the lockboxes into your time doing the normal mini-game. I don't use them every day, but now and then I do them as well. This past dilithium weekend event was awesome for these as well as the normal mini-game. I still have about 50 of them spread across a few captains, more than 30 on one alone.
They make a wondrous mess of things. Brave amateurs, they do their part.
When they've got the effort:reward ratio of the Defera Borg zone, I'll complain.
"We definitely need to make it a random chance to get one of fifty cortical nodes or find a civilian in a house in order to get five marks. Once per day."
I would rather pull my nails out with a pliers than play the dilithium mine game. If a mini game were any good it wouldn't be a "mini-game", It would be the main game and then STO would be the mini game.
Man, only do that if you have the Mining claims from Lockboxes. in an out in three minutes tops. heck, you could even transwarp to the Mine via the claim. Also, you can only do it once per 20-hours.
So, boring is relative. Only having to go there once per claim/day means no grind,
I only do Dili mining on the 2x dilithium events. And even then I only use the Rich claims so that I get 10k dili a day plus whatever other grinds I do
I run the mining missions once in a while. Before the crafting revamp, they used to give out common materials past a certain point, and the Rare Particle Traces past 700 points.
Post-crafting revamp, it seems it only gives out uncommons at most, which are a subset of the old commons (the converstion was the "rarer" commons turned into uncommons. Particle Traces more or less became "rares", and they added another layer of material grind with the very rare mats.
In theory, you could craft a whole Aegis set from dilithium mine mats and dil before S9.5. It would take forever, and would make alot more sense to head to Zenas to farm the mats, but you COULD. Now you need to grind forever, for I'm pretty sure is MORE dilithium than before, rare mats that are far rarer than the old particle traces, and run queues all over the bloody place, to just get where we were before.
In short - I support better mat rewards, across the board.

My conclusion, based on mining multiple times in the last dil bonus event, is that a higher score gets you more drop chances. Also the drops seemed to use a system similar to how the particle conversion process went. IE, the lower the particle rarity the more you get when it drops. It's not the same as it was before where you had guaranteed numbers of certain rarities, but didn't know what type of materials you would get.
Or.... maybe it is.... I wonder if maybe the system is actually dropping old mats and auto converting them.... Hmm... nah. If it was I'd likely not see things like nodes paying out ONLY two greens.

I suppose it could be dropping old mats and auto converting, if they removed the particle traces from the loot tables completely. If the particle traces were there, we'd consistently see blues if scoring over 775. Since I almost always score over 775, and I can't recall getting blues (perhaps a few here and there, but not consistent), seems it certainly isn't handing out the particle traces it used to.
I mine quite a bit if I'm not in the mood for combat and still want some dil. 1000 for 7 minutes isn't that bad, even though it is mind-numbing.
All I know is that the conversion was very generous - at the time. Got loads and loads of mats. The drop rate of even blues though since 9.5, has been whittling away my stockpiles.
How about adding some additional lucrative DOFF assignments on the Mining zones?

Doff missions related to the zone they are = good.
Doff missions where there currently are no doff missions = good.
I still don't understand why there aren't doff missions at the mine, New Romulus (perhaps even rewarding a few Romulan marks), etc.
Agreed Thematic DOFF assignments are a great way to encourage players to visit different location in the game that otherwise are lacking for appropriate activities

Sorry, this is just not the case. I've gotten 4 different mats when barely reaching 735, and a single common mat when reaching 940+. The RNG is totally in control of material drops, and I can't remember when I ever got a rare item, and I mine nearly every time I log in. The RNG drop rate was better before DR, but I currently get drops even if I don't reach 735 (usually single commons). It would be more worthwhile to have an RNG modifier for scores beyond 735, so at least some benefit could be had for skill in this part of the game, but Cryptic is not really interested in whether or not we have fun playing it...

Dilithium mini-game has been tedious and mind numbing since day 1, it takes elite players 140% effort not to nod off while playing. Its working as intended

It still does if you score highly enough, tip, use your cursor keys not your mouse.
It is if you have rich mining claims, as then you can get over 10k dilithium a day JUST from visiting the asteroid.
/drumroll/
C store and Lobi Dilithium Mining Gear/skill sets. Three different sets that he following when mining dilithium:
1: Improves mining accuracy (more time between the automatic reset requiring you to re-calibrate your beam)
2: A +10% to the total raw dilithium earned per node.
3: ELITE. Improves mining accuracy AND a +10% total raw dil earned with a 5% chance of an additional +10%.
*all of the above not applicable in conjunction with mining claims.
Now who wouldnt say shut up and take my money for these?
Me. There's no reason to do the mining.
Okay.. who besides uryenserellont??
