Not understanding how Gather Intel works

uryenserellonturyenserellont Member Posts: 858 Arc User
I've been trying this on the I.S.S dreadnaughts at the end of the Mirror event and it does nothing.

I haven't been able to expose any ship actually. Shouldn't it be adding stacks of something? What it looks like is it's removing stacks, counting down from 15 to 0. I've never seen anything added while using it.

The only way I've been able to expose targets is using the phaser or plasma lance.

I have yet to get a scan on anyone. It counts down from 5 and then nothing even on bosses who stay alive longer that 30 seconds. Instant from phaser lance, but no idea how it works otherwise.

Gather Intel is a toggled ability. Hit it once when you target a ship and leave it untill the next ship. The 5 seconds you are seeing is the cooldown to use it again after you've turned it back off or your target has died.

Yes it is a toggle ability.

You have to first click it on the target you want, a 0-15 counter will activate, once it is exposed you must then click on a list of 3 different expose options.

They will not be click-able until the 15 stack is complete. once you click on one a graphic will surround your target to let you know it is exposed.

The options are all on the gather Intel bar next to the gather Intel button.

    hope this helps

It doesn't help :( because it's counting down from 15-0 then the stack disappears. That's why I'm so confused. It starts at 15, counts down to 0, then nothing.

I have clicked gather intel on every target lol It counts down from 5, then i wait more... 30 seconds later nothing. Even on the dread in MU which takes longer than 15 seconds to die. I have tried it every way i know. Nothing.

It seams to me this expose TRIBBLE is just like the target subsytems sci should have had. LOL Reminds me way too much of the sci sensor analysis.

Ok it works just fine in a deep space encounter. Penetrating Scan starts a countdown down from 20 or 15 (it varies for some reason) and after a few seconds there's 10 seconds of Vulnerable. I don't know why it counts down instead of up.

Vs the I.S.S though it doesn't work. I've tried it three times since getting DR earlier, three different characters. It never makes it Vulnerable.

At least I know what to look for now after trying it in a random encounter.

The counter goes in both directions. You have a limited time once the target is vulnerable to use the expose. This is a time the counter will count down. There is a period of immunity. This is a time the counter will count down.

If you simply nail the toggle during these times you'll be treated to a brief countdown on the toggle switch itself. So you can start over. One count up, two longish count downs, and one short count down.

The entire interface stinks. They are aware of this.

But there's a countdown the moment I press Gather Intel. It starts at some seemingly random number (which I assume now might be the time required to make the target Vulnerable), counts down, and either the target is made Vulnerable or in the case of the I.S.S. nothing happens at all. When it's Vulnerable there's another countdown of 10 seconds.

What was confusing me is the fact that the countdown results in nothing vs the I.S.S., which up until I tested it solo was the only mob I tried it on as no others lived long enough.

Maybe it's an issue with the I.S.S. being immune to it, or maybe the sensor drone is being destroyed. I don't know. I'll try again later.

I've just been keeping the intel debuffs on my spam bar. They are greyed out unless they can be used. Once the vulnerability is open they will basically fire off automatically this way. I just use Gather Intel then do my normal stuff for combat and the debuffs happen when they can.

Edit: Never seen the I.S.S. ships last long enough to be debuffed by Gather Intel. They very well could be bugged. Phaser Lance is definitely opening a vulnerability on them.

I don't believe the sensor drones get destroyed but I could be wrong on this.

I actually sought out the I.S.S the minute the phase began in order to test it, because yes otherwise it doesn't last long enough.

I know the skill actually works now. I confirmed that in a deep space encounter. I now have to see why it's not working vs the I.S.S.

Well, in all, Gather Intel is half pointless.

The appropriate buffs do NOT get removed on the targets.

    For example:

The target is exposed by having enough Gather Intel stacked. You see the target has running Emergency Power to Shields or some other Engineering related buff on it.

Before you begin your attacks, you use the appropriate Gather Intel special ability, the one that removes Engineering buffs.

The only issue is this. It doesn't. You can do the same with Tac related buffs with the proper Tac ability and it doesn't remove them. Same thing with Science.

Gather Intel is broken. Sent a bug report on it, made a thread on it in Gameplay Bugs, but nobody has caught it, nobody notices that the enemy buffs are still there after using the appropriate strip.

Their metrics probably tell them that responding to that bug won't increase their profits.

Yah, been pestering 'em about that.

It takes off Alpha! And a couple other things. But yah. Not working as described. Never did.
