I thought the Intel BO's were a separate faction, like Engineer/Sci BO's ?
Yet I saw a BO with both Sci skills and an Int skill on one BO?

Made me a tad confused ...

INtel is a specialization not a career for boffs. and you mean career not faction.

Intel is a specalization... sci/tac/engi are careers.. they will always be both and can pull skills from both intel + whatever career

its a good thing this is the case. You can't use the intel officers on upgrade ships, only pure t6, apparently .... so this way if you prefer a box ship upgrade to the 1 choice they gave us for now, you can still use your int officer for something.

IRONY... the one faction that might need to do this the most -- retrain their officer to use a non-intel seat to make use of the pirate trait on the free officer because they don't have any good space traits --- is the one faction with all the ships and least needs to do so.

I actually like some of the intel space powers... I ground out the dill and changed it to zen and bought a Eclipse. However.. before that I WAS using intel/whatever boffs with normal space skills (lets face it retraining boffs only costs expterise which most of us have in the millions so no big deal) and was using some normal ground skills mixed with intel skills... like the tripwire drone and turrents on engi boffs.

I like the intel powers just fine. But there are NO intel seats on most ships so if you are a fed you retrain the freebie to get pirate, is all I was saying. Kdf and roms just lock him in a closet somewhere until they (if ever) buy a t6 ship. Given the offerings that might be a while for kdf -- so far we got a fixed officer no flanking BOP (aka raptor) and a tank in a game that does not reward tanking.

Ahh.. I misunderstood you. Yeah KDF and RR go the shaft so far with T6 ships for sure. Heck even RR got the shaft in buying intel boffs from the NPC in Delta Command. My Feds can get green/blues there with varied races to choose from, my RR alt only gets Romulan/Remen to pick from and only white. I have no KDF alts so I have no idea how bad they got the shaft but it's probably as bad as the RR.
