Cryptic - isn't it about time that you offer the ability to upgrade all ships to Tier 6 Upgrade? You want to make some money and bring some folks back to the game? In my opinion, that would be one way.
One of the great things about this game (in my opinion) is all the diversity in ships that I see when flying through the sector blocks. I can almost imagine that this is how it might really be...many many different Federation ships, Romulan ships, Klingon ships, and even occasional other ships, like Breen, Tholian, Undine, etc... I mean, not ever undine is evil right? Wasn't there an episode in Voyager where Chakotay made friends with some Undine on a space station? Could be similar for other races. Anyway, I digress... Cryptic, keep that diversity!
Add in the ability to purchase or the ability craft materials to bring our existing ships up to Tier 6. Not Tier 5 with an extra console slot but missing Bridge Officer slots/powers.
Someone might ask, well what about the sales of our current Tier 6? Look, there has to be other people out there like me that are just waiting till the Fleet Tier 6 versions launch. I want to fly the best possible ship, I'm not wasting my time in Sub-par Tier 6 or even Tier 5U (as it stands now). I'm watching the price of Zen fall daily on the exchange...then when it's back to 130ish, cash out. You want to get me to open my wallet early? Make us more ships... Your devs are currently busy on other tasks? Then let us upgrade existing ship designs to Tier 6. It's likely less time involved on your part then making all new ships from scratch. I mean heck, you only released like 8 new ships for he expansion (I think).
Finally, what's to keep players from just staying in their old ships? Nothing you can do will change that. Some people just love their old ships. Want to make a buck off them, upgrade the capabilities on that old ship.
This is just an opinion on my part, but I welcome any feedback, positive or negative to the idea.

I don't want to be double dipped either, but I honestly think there is no way Cryptic does some kind of Free upgrade to full Tier 6. The alternative is never flying your Dyson Ship (for example) again because when Tier 6 Fleet comes out it will ABSOLUTELY be obsolete.
It would actually be quadruple-dipping in the case of people such as myself who bought the standard version of a ship, then bought the fleet version when it was available, and then took that ship to T5U.
You want me to pay to upgrade my Excelsior again?
I've not seen an obvious, enormous performance boost from people in their new shiny ships. Is the extra trait/intel boff (that you can't really use to its full potential until you get lots of specialization points) really worth it? Really?

Specific ships, ones that maybe serve a purpose I would support, but I don't think there is any need for all ships to get T6 treatment.
Odyssey, Bortasqu' and Scimitar IMHO. No others.
Having unique ship traits for t5 ships would likely increase sales of these ships, and lockbox keys for ship gambling, but I wouldnt count on Cryptic being smart enough to suggest that to PerfectWorldEntertainment.
the sooner PWE repaces Cryptic, the better.
Why should those get it and not other t5 ships?
His reasons? Likely because they're the faction specific flagships, and thus should be the best of the best. My reasons, because they're tri-pack ships, and should be made the most of.
That is exactly correct.
All T5 Cstore ships and Fleet ships i reckon, but that's just my opinion.
So the bottom line for me is that I will not be using the T6 ships from the Zen Store. And I feel like I've been Ripped Off!
I was only encouraging Cryptic to consider this idea. They won't do it without making a profit. Think of them as ferengi. I don't want to see you pay anything again, but I'd also like to see the diversity of the ships remain in the game. Once Tier 6 Fleet come out, with the extra console slot (11 in total) AND the increased Boff seating, all the current Tier 5U and Tier 6 WILL be Obsolete. It's up to you to decide if you're ok with yesterday's ship.
Nah 500 quatloos, they're just gonna "re-sell" everything T5, as T6 some day ... for 3000+ Zen ... maybe adding some T5+T6 Console Bundle if we're very "lucky" ...
It's what, 700zen for an upgrade token (500zen if you split an upgrade pack four ways). A T6 ship costs 3000zen. I would say a further 250-500zen for a full T6 upgrade if you've already upgraded to T5U.
Again though, not all ships are needing (nor will they ever get) T6 status. The T6 ships should be limited; that's the whole point of them, and to have their Intel Boff slots. If all (or any) existing ships got the T6 treatment, would they come with, or without Intel Boff slots? If they come with, then fine, but they'd still be limited. If they came without, then quite frankly, what's the point?
Some ships come with a Lt.Cmd ENG, some come with a Cmd SCI, and some now come with INTEL. I am fully expecting more Intel Ships (cause some of them are going to need INTEL boffs at CMD level; ships with 2x CMD slots aren't too unlikely either, though their other boffs would likely consist of Lieutenants and Ensigns.
I'd also pay good money to get a T6 Fleet Wells Class.
i bought the only 2 ships they wanted to sell to me. i leveled them up got the trait and then went back to my old ship that had a t5fu . really so many seem to be praising the new raptor but other tha the trait which is nice if you dont use hy torp ( because now if i HY and enemy it blows it out of effective cannon range for max damage to me its sucks) but the beam overload buff is nice.
really though a 5/2 with standard cloak just isnt something that i was thrilled with.
then the new battle cruiser for the warrior race of the game to have 3 tactical consoles LOL yeah ok not a fan of it either or its pancake hull. maybe it will become a decent ship with the fleet version can only hope i guess.
