Beam Fire at Will vs Carrier Pets

I'm just curious as to why Carrier Pets are being nerfed, when Beam Fire at Will is not. You just had someone break 100k dps using FAW (a no skill ability where you park and hit everything around you really really hard) vs Carrier Pets (a no skill ability where your pets do significant damage...but not 100k dps).

I guess I just need to give up on ever making a viable cannon boat, and embrace the FAW, Aux2Bat madness.

    Yup, why I am going to drop torps for the time being on my sci so I can unleash the FAW and FAW until my eyes bleed.

    i couldnt agree with you more. I ran the faeht and hazari for a while and it sure does take alot of technique and skill and build to get them right and it was fun. However i always revert back to my scimitar beam aux to batt marion technician grind boat to do grinding content faster and then for skill and technique improvement i use the faeht and hazari.

    wait you where still using torps?

    They got even worse with DR, since everything has increased kinetic resistances, not to mention shields (even from npc) have minimum 75% kinetic resistance.

    Torps where always bad, but you could make some things work, now they are a joke. (same with mines)

    Unfortunately yes, :( I've only been using my sci in MI so hadn't done much. I'll probably switch back to tetryon set as I have the Nukara set. I am hoping the Web mines have been affected less than the standard mines.

    even if pet were not being nerfed, i would still choose faw spam, because you control the amount of things you want destroyed and how badly, with pets you have to wait on them and most of the time due to the ai being what it is... faw is a win hands down.

    Simple:
    • You dont have to upgrade your pets =/= no money gain for cryptic
    • FAW builds needs to upgrade 8 beam guns = a lot of dilithium spend = cryptic makes a lot of money

    Huh? This is the only one at the moment that focuses on FAW at all. The carrier pet thread is pretty limited to people complaining that something got nerfed. This one is asking why carrier pets and not something that is even more broken (FAW). May want to check the list again and actually read the OP before you get snarky.

    WOW! Pets don't need to be nerfed. This is really disappointing! Does everyone need to conform to the FAW Scimitar's with dual Aux2Bat?!

    You may be right...I don't pretend to understand their marketing strategy these days. Even reducing the arrays to a 180 arc instead of 220 would help fix the problem, since the majority of the damage comes from the overlap and essentially having 8 'forward' weapons...basically turning a starship into an old fashioned Ship of the Line.

    If they really wanted to rake in the Zen, they'd make torpedoes much better, since torpedoes seem to take a lot more dilithium to upgrade than a beam array.
