According to a general consensus, the next big thing coming for Star Trek Online will be new carrier pets that are stronger than the weaklings we'll be left with after the patch that comes live in 3 weeks. I say prepare your wallets because these new [Epic Pet] will cost you money or time depending on how you play this game.
It's obvious that a [Special Ship Requisition - Kazon Carrier] will be a playeable ship soon enough. I've heard things like a [Special Ship Requisition - Breen Carrier] and [Special Ship Requisition - Sarr Thein Carrier] too though I don't know what those last two will look like.
It looks cool but I still want to see a [Special Ship Requisition - Heavy Armored Mobile Carrier] to be fully satisfied. You know, that ship comes standard with 2 wings of [Valkyrie Fighter Pet] and a [Heavy Dual Mounted Quantum Torpedo Launcher Turret]. I may be dreaming a lot, discuss.

I will always choose a lazy person to do a difficult job...
I've already made my position clear: I will not be purchasing any carrier pets. Ever. I will however quite happily post when (not if) they do post their new "get your pets back!" blog post, what non-Cyptic game I spent that money on intead.

Yeah, there is speculation on Epic Pets. That is all well and dandy. Some food for thought though.
The Sarr Theln IS the Breen Carrier.
Also, if your Heavy Armored Mobile Carrier is the Typhoon from ST:Invasion, forget it. Cryptic can't touch it as it belongs to another company. Same goes for the Valkyrie fighter.
Man, that spammer is just FLOODING the forums tonight!
As for the Breen Ship and Epic Quality Hangar Pets... no. Just no. I'll stick with my Fleet HEC and Elite Delta Flyers. I like the ship and I like them. I see no need to rush and have the most powerful equipment the moment it comes out.
Edited to remove spam from quote. Now, honestly, I am pretty sure we have enough to drain our funds without you. That is for us whom drain funds into this game.
Now I could go on and on, but you probably will never look back into this thread, as you are invading the sanctity of other legit threads.

If this turns out to be true, then it would appear that the Upcoming changes to Hangar Pets and Separation pets. would be just a cover story... and that this "fix" was announced knowing full well what they were going to be adding Epic level pets. Now I do know that there have been some DPS scaling issues with at least "some" Pets prior to and since DR was launched, but I have suspicions as to why the Development Team wants to tackle this issue when there are so many other things wrong with this game. Many of those issues, IMO, need to be dealt with before this.
The scenario posted by the OP does make sense in the regard that this could be their way of legitimizing the nerf of carrier pets only to swoop in at a later time and dangle shiny new Epic level pets under our nose.
Granted, this could all be speculation and/or coincidence, but I wouldn't put it past Cryptic Studios to take away things from us and try to have us pay to get back what was taken in this manner.

Either that or they are going to be part of the upgrade system. I wouldn't be suprised to see both happen.
Considering they're going at extreme lengths to keep you in-game these days, grinding, soon... logging OUT will be deemed 'exploitative behavior' too. :P Because that was certainly not intended.

Logging out will cost 1k dilithium, forcing a client crash to circumvent this will result in a ban.

"Cryptic, I've lost 1 specialization point from Intel, Commando, and Pilot each after I logged out. Noticed it when I logged in. What's going on? Is this a bug?"
"Logging out is considered exploitive behavior and using game mechanics for purposes not intended. This reverse addition of specialization points is not a bug. It's a feature."
If you ask me some of you are right its a other craptic cash grab there setting up its all they been doing this year is working out more ways to get whales to fork out money.

Epic Pets are just gonna be the tallest guy at the little people convention after the nerf. They'll be as strong as the pets are now, which for most, means not strong enough to be worth the price.
Cryptic doesn't even care enough to be sneaky anymore on their money grabbing. Everyone knew instantly why the pets were getting a 'fix'.
D'Angelo in the ep seat = a locked wallet in my pocket. Why should I spend money on something he seems intent on destroying.
Yup, with the whole T-5U ship thing and DR, my wallet is closed. Once players get some respect I might open it again. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. I would bet on STO's demise before players getting respect.
If anything the continual 'special events' we are getting would speak to some desperation. DR launch then Dil Weekend then MU event, bam bam bam! Smells of desperation.

So, basically, two stages to pet monetization:
Increase effectiveness of pets by depositing $$
Fix pet controls by depositing additional $$$
Am I missing some other facet to pet monetization perhaps?

Wait.... what did I do to deserve a ban?!

i have to agree, on both accounts
Vice Admiral Nova Snow S'Car, U.S.S. Caitian Fury-F (Multi-Vector Advanced Escort)
Lieutenant R'Maani Hunter, I.K.S. Teng'vek (B'rel Bird of Prey)

Most Welcome.
Stay as long as you like, bring all your friends.
I feel the need to point out that these are the same thing. :P
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
