Increasingly more frustrated with training bridge officers

Dear Cryptic,

I love the game and I love playing around with my bridge officers, however, I find that I'm constantly of the wrong profession to train my BO's in the skills I want to have.

Here is the problem;
I'm an engineer captain and I have a tactical officer who I'd like to have attack pattern beta III. Usually this isn't a problem since we can trade most BO's to other people, however, this particular officer is bound to me (the intel/tactical hybrid officer).

On my science captain I have the pre-order Amazon female borg engineer who I've wanted to train in emergency power to weapons III for ages, but since I can't trade her either I'm fresh out of luck.

I have several other examples, but I hope you get the point.


Here is my suggestion though; can you please add a specific part in the trade UI window where we can slot our bridge officer to others where the BO won't get traded, but where somebody else can train your officer a new skill?

This would solve multiple problems at once;
- We can now finally have new skills trained on bound BO's that don't match our own profession.
- Trainers can't ninja loot your BO's anymore. Right now people could just fly off with your BO if they wanted to. Considering how some of the very rare BO's are worth millions it's easy to get scammed.

I really hope that you'll give this suggestion some thought, and more importantly, time and a budget to get it developed. ;)

    I once listened to a interview Dan Stahl gave wherein he stated he wasn't satisfied with the procedures needed to train BOs. He went on to say he wanted to do away with the trading method and simplify training by making ALL the BO skills available from the BO Skill Trainer.

    That would be the most simple solution to the problem. I like the current kit module system available to players myself. I would suggest allowing BOs to carry kits. Players can carry multiple weapons, armor, and shields and switch their BO's equipment on the fly. Let us do the same for BO skills too. Give us the ability to switch BO skills on the fly by swapping out different skill modules.

    Any solution would be better than what we currently have. Your idea is a good one too. I hope that it'll get solved sometime soon though, it's been a frustration for years, but it used to be limited to a single BO. Now I have 8 BO's that I can't trade.

    I support this. I was trying to train one of my Tactical Intelligence BOff and I could not. The system is just plain silly and needs a revamp asap. There is a number of solutions. The one that I think is the most simple is to have as a kind of temprary unlock. As long as you have a BOff with a given skill, then you can train any other BOff in that skill without consuming it, and no matter where it is. You need a APO3 in that expensive Photonic MACO BOff? Not a problem. Buy a cheap Tactical officer, give it to someone train it and when you receive it back, you can train all your tactical officers in APO3. You can even discard the dummy officer later withou losing the ability, because now you have at least one officer trained with it. And if you change your mind later and wants APO3 on your Breen officer, there is no need of further transactions. But if in any moment the number of officers with APO3 reach zero, you loose access to it and need someone to train another officer for you again.

    Thanks Cryptic for introducing the Kelvin Timeline. It remembered why I decided to never more put any money on this game.

    Geko had mentioned skill books on the Exchange at one point. There had been talk of it changing with DR and the skill revamp - but that got pushed back to S10 or later. Curious as to where that stands, because there are those BOFFs as mentioned that just can't be trained because they can't be traded. I kind of like the idea of "crafting" Skill Books...
