So, you want to play in the Advanced que?

pulserazorpulserazor Member Posts: 590 Arc User
Everyone wants to play in the Advanced que, and the Elite que. The rewards are better, why wouldnt everyone want to?

Joining these ques isnt going to magically make the great loot drop from the sky like it did before DR where no one woud notice your 2kdps ship because their FAW boat was pulling enough dps to permit you to afk for all the good your best efforts did. In DR, if you are in an Advanced que and you arent an Advanced Player, chances are quite high that you are a liabillity to the team and you willl fail, imposing a 1hour cooldown penalty on not only yourself, but 4 other people who may well be Advanced Players themselves.

An Advanced Player knows better then to use disruptors, antiprotons, polarons and phasers on the same ship. they know to choose one damage type and boost their damage with tactical consoles.

An Advanced player knows better then using Rapid Fire 3 when the only thing they have on the ship is 2 turrets, 2 torpedos, and 3 dual beam banks.

An advanced player will have their three 90 degree arc Dual Heavy cannons Far outdamage their three 360 degree turrets, because they will have the advanced piloting skills to manouver themselves into the favorable firing arc.

What are some other things advanced players know that make it possible for them to acually contribute to the success of their Advanced que run? Better yet: how can we get this message out to the normal players who dont mind joining the advanced que even though they are clearly a liabillity to everyone they play with?

Advanced players know to rub more than two tac consoles (of the same type) together... and only have tact consoles in their tac console slots.

Advanced players know to keep their tactical abilities on global cool down. heck, all their important abilities on global.

Advanced players have situation awareness, they can look at things going on around them and respond in the correct manner, example:

Player A in Mirror Invasion is sitting in the middle of 3/4 rifts, FAWing everything and grabbing all the aggro.

    Player B comes in and:
1.) Starts shooting the aggroed NPCs
2.) Clears the rifts while the NPCs are shooting at Player A.
    3.) Goes AFK

The correct answer for an Advanced player is 2. However i see 1 happening in 90% of my MI runs.

But they will fire 3 times more rapidly!!!

I shudder to think about the things on these ships that I cant see from looking at the combat logs, like what boffs they use, and what marks and rarities they are using for weapons.

And advanced player knows no to use Aceton Beam and DEM at the same time on thier escort, because the cooldowns are just too long.

Turrets ? Surely you jest. Since DR moved the goalposts it's better to scrap your turrets, equip as many 360* beams as you can and keep a BO slotted on your cannonboat.

advanced players would play to their strengths. Healers would focus the heals on the ship doing the most damage/aggro...

science would be spamming GWIIIs at the proper targets, depending on the maps for max amount of damage.

...By creating posts that have constructive criticism.

(Did you figure out how to budget your $100-$200 per month that you are spending on STO each month to work towards having better gear so that you can fly more than just one of your 30+ lockbox ships with sub-par (VR-MkXII gear) rather than just dumping it all into your Fleet?)

Did you figure out what the subtle point to that thread was yet? Please stay on topic.

But since you asked, I could probably spend that money on a nice teamspeak server where I could just recruit every hapless captain I saw and shape them into an Advanced player.

But that money wouldnt be going to crypric. See: Subtlety.

    Subtle shaming does help.

Fleets and channels help immensely to filter out those who don't care, and to help those who understand the value of team play.

When we played, we helped shape people form a mish-mash of dropped components to a structured build, while teaching them the techniques to beat and master the STF's.

We also showed them that shooting structures that do not take damage does not mean you're doing high DPS. That's for people with size issues.

    But we've stopped playing.

The space STF's are disproportionate in terms of difficulty and reward. Theres no point to playing them.

    An Advanced Player

Should have stayed in the Elite Ques made for them and stop encouraging Cryptic to not fix the borked Advanced ques?

Sorry, I was just put off a BIT by the approach that you took. Also, sorry for bringing up a subject from another post.

Perhaps there might have been some subtlety in your post but shaming is not the best way to promote the constructs of a good build. Teamspeak might speed the process a bit, but it's only a tool and not an approach.

Maybe creating a basic How-to in the Academy section to help new players would be a good approach, or instead of reinventing the wheel, refer to previous posts that already have done that. If there is new information that you would like to impart onto others that has changed, since the release of DR, you could add that as well.

To be fair, im not shaming anybody, shaming them would be posting the parse logs or linking to their Gateway details. Trust me, the links I could post would get a lot of laughs, if they werent so bad that one might think that they were deliberatley trolling.

None of the players that we are discussing wil ever read these forums, I would submit that among the players who even take the time to open the thread there are very few who are not already Advanced

I'm pretty sure he meant 45 degrees. There is a 90 degree DHC that is crafted but you can only equip one.

Ahem. My rainbow boat is at around 15K DPS as an Engineer.

I'm sure you know there are now +Beam and +Cannon Fleet Tactical Consoles that are very close in final performance to their single-energy counterparts.

Oh. Then add "Advanced players don't proofread forum posts." to the list. :D

Disclaimer: Said tac console in tac slots rule only applies to PvE hero builds. In PvP land, slotting other things can be way more powerful when it comes to science builds.

Well in this last week i have been able to pug quite a few advanced queues it looks like lots of low dps players have given up and gone back to normals or maybe they are just playing the mirror event.

ISA can be done by a group with a total of 50k dps if people blow the gens close to each other and everyone uses their dps cooldowns for the transformers gravwells help but even with a 50k dps is still not required. You have just enough dps to finish with a couple minutes left over.

Advanced players are NOT complaining about the more than welcome increase in difficulty...

That annoys me to no end. I'm usually the one holding the aggro watching the other people fighting with me or flying into the center to defend the station. Or everyone going for the dread leaving me to try and rush the rifts alone. Seen a new one earlier this morning, same mission, two people hiding in the arrays so they can't be attacked and activating them.. And doing nothing else.
