I hear so much about this mythical, "Excaliber" like TR-116b weapon but have never actually seen where they come from. Do you have to craft this weapon, what level do you have to be and what components are needed? I don't mind grinding for things that are worth having. If it isn't a crafting item, what episode is it from or is it a random drop? Is it an account bind? Again, I don't mind grinding, if it's worth it and I hate asking but this sems to be a "must have" item because I do a lot of ground, stf's (pugs only as foolish as that may be), missions and episodes. Is there a "Yoda" out there who might be inclined to answer my question/plea and help me pull ths weapon from the stone?
It's a crafted gun & from what I heard, it sells for a lot on Exchange.
PS: I also pug a lot of ground STF's... you are not alone out there!

You need level 15 in Ground school to craft it, it requires- component wise- 4 focusing lens, 4 industrial replicator supplies, 4 coolant injectors, 2 plasma capacitors, 2 micro power cells, 2 handheld calibration controls, 4 isolinear circuitry, 3 particle alignment matrix. Or in purely material terms- 24 magnesite, 16 hydrazine gas, 12 tritanium, 8 verteron particles, 8 hexafluorine gas, 8 thoron particles, 8 tetrazine gas, 12 z-particles, 6 beta tachyon particles, 16 dentarium, 4 radiogenic particles, 12 craylon gas and 12 trelium k and 14,000 dilithium as well as one of the required duty officers (Soreb, hinni or zissiox for feds, zuain, kuristalla or kraang for kdfs).
BTW you can use the dropdown menu top right on a school to show all tasks so you can see what will be needed yourself in game.

The required Duty officers of course costing 40 million EC or above.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
You can, of course, buy them from the exchange. I'd recommend either doing that, or obtaining the materials required and getting in touch with a 15+ ground crafter.
I mean, you can level up crafting- but doing so just to get yourself one weapon is a poor reward for the effort.
You can get a chance at the required doffs by opening xindi lockboxes (lol) or by doing the R&D mission personnel officers have for 1k dil, but no gaurantees you'll get the one you want, let alone get any.
Of course the reqs are costly. The weapon entirely ignores ground shields and may sometimes shoot through barriers/obstacles (which its canon TV version did in fact do). And just imagine crafting 2-3 for your favorite ground teammembers.

If the TR-116B is shooting through walls, then it is a bug. The TR-116B is only supposed to have the shield penetration effect. The TR-116A shoots through walls, but it is the preorder version of the weapon and lots of players that preordered this weapon would have been upset with Cryptic if the TR-116B did that.
Erm... what is? The costs are easy to meet materials wise if you play a few pves, or even if you find what makes you ec easiest and buy them they aren't that unattainable and as someone else pointed out, if you have friends in the game, or a fleet, it is quite easy to find people willing to do the crafting at purely material costs, some even to literally make it at no cost, if you know them well enough.
It's a cool rifle. It's the only thing I have crafted tho I have all schools to 15. It's the only thing that isn't crafted for a large loss at current values.
For the doffs - just search by name for a day or 2 and you will find one for 20 or 30,000

You'll need a doff that specifically says Ground R&D School on it, not just any of the right specialization. I don't know what the common R&D doffs cost, I bought Xindi when they were new and relatively cheap.
Thanks for the feedback all. I do appreciate it. My next question would be: Where do these pesky DOFFs come from? I have one toon who sits in a shuttle in various clusters as his main job. What cluster stands the best chance of producing the necessary TR-116 doff? Geesh, talk about a needle in a haystack.

This is a list of the names of them, there are purple ones that have a chance of coming from xindi lockboxes or exchange and common quality ones that come from a doff mission from the Personnel officers (at Starfleet Academy in the top left hand circular building and on some fleet Starbases) that gives missions to attain more dutty officers, the R&D materials mission they offer has a chance of giving you one of them for 1,000 dilithium and 48 hours of patience, but no certainty it'll be the one you want/need. They are very expensive on the exchange.
PS The mission is called Requisition R&D Assitance.
PPS Making the level 15 items can be prohibitively expensive, but some people want to be able to do everything in game that is possible and atm selling these items can still make a decent profit if you earn the materials yourself in PVE.

No, since the damage type it does is "Kinetic" which cannot be adapted too.

This lists exactly which doffs are needed for which schools level 15 special item
I've been crafting and selling tr-116s. Trust me, the prices have indeed dropped. A lot of the good crafted item sellers are dropping in price.

On your captain. You can give them to all your boffs.
