Every mission i've been on in the borg disconnect advanced has failed in the first few minutes of the mission even if we are doing what is asked!!! so is it broken or to hard?
Considering I beat BDE constantly, it is probably the players. Do not pug it. Join an STF channel.
This response begs the question of why have quick play option at all. If you want to toss the bad players into the fire and be done with them, so be it, but some of those players could get better with practical experience.
I had the same problem yesterday. At least I thought we were doing things the way it should go. It's where you sever the probes/cubes/spheres from the Collective.
Maybe the other sides were not doing their job correctly. I only played normal, so I'm not sure if there even was a fail state to begin with. Is it the counter to how many borg vessels you've saved and not having enough the fail state?
I was literately like 'Huh?' when it was cut short.
I'd just be happy if it worked correctly. I've had several runs now where I'm on floater duty zipping between two of the points, but nothing spawns for me to free. Timer runs out and its mission failed. Irritating.
This STF isn't pug friendly. I would avoid it until enough people have learned it, and have acquired the proper gear to do it. I've tried explaining it in team chat, but people rarely read it, so it's a lost cause for now unless you do it with friends or a stf channel.

Perhaps the other players should read up on the STF before they enter and ruin everyone elses game. Most of the trash I come across in pugs are stupid kids and trolls anyway that refuse to work with the team or even read chat so TRIBBLE them.

You know it bothers me that the devs decided to do something that has been in MMOs since the days of Shadowbane and EQ. Now don't get me wrong but I love the ideal of the "Holy Trinity" of MMOs yet they waited four years to bring it to the game, and this is exactly what it is and that's the "Holy Trinity". What they have tried to do is give an effective reason for people like me who play "tanks" and to give them a job that is supposed to be teamed based and for other players to take notice of this and do their jobs. However it is just blacklashing not only at Crpytic but also the players such as myself.
What is suppose to have happened is that any player who is not a tank would invest in items to tone down his/her threat and to give the threat to at least one player while they get the objectives done. The problem with this ideal is that players have been so invested in just come in "shoot 'em up" finish the whole STF and leave. This is due to the failure of the devs and the ignorance of players who are not playing a role and are not thinking of teammates.
You know it's frustrating because I run an Engineer/T6/Cruiser and I love to tank and I have spent alot on increasing my threat and it kills me each time I run an Advanced/Elite STF only to see people who are not doing the objective but are sitting there fighting me for aggro all day long. This is a major drawback to this game and I think they really need to do something about it, I have been here since beta and this is a very disappointing expansion and it is killing me but I may just have to put this game away because I don't even feel like my character is advancing but just standing still.

Yep, there lies the problem. Its rare that enough disconnected borg ships spawn to get 15 in all three parts.
Noticed this on a run at normal where despite not getting 15 ships freed in the last part I still got the accolade for not letting any ships get re-assimilated.

If not enough ships spawn, it's because people are not saving them fast enough.
They are set to spawn 20 seconds or so after the previous one is saved/destroyed.
This is still true if a ship slips through and gets reassimilated. If that ship is not destroyed asap no new ones will appear.
interestingly this is also true for enemy spawns.
New (and stronger) enemies spawn only when the last mob is destroyed.
So ironically players coming in zapping everything with their elite DPS make everything harder than it needs to be.
Because after wiping out a couple of mobs you end up with half a dozen spheres and cubes to hold off. And the Borg roflstomp they Undine and Voth at that point so keep targeting you as well, when they are finished wiping the floor with them after a few seconds.
So best thing you can do is maybe thin the first mob a bit to the point where you can comfortably tank their damage and then don't fire a shot at all anymore.
Your wingman without the aggro can free ships to his heart content and once the now nicely balanced Undine arrive to take the aggro from you, you can help getting every disconnected ship out of harms way within seconds.
But: communicating to an entire PUG tea am that firing weapons is exactly the wrong thing to do and why is near futile.

I'd agree with the above suggestion that you get a group, and add on that this basic guide and this slightly more advanced guide may be of help.
EDIT: Forgot it's forum formatting, not reddit formatting.

I posted a thread not too long ago about this issue along with a few others http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1280561
