Over a thousand years in the past, the Empire of the Vaadwaur spanned across the Delta Quadrant. With Delta Rising, we've seen the Vaadwaur come back as a force to be reckoned with. Learn more about their return in our latest developer blog by Systems Designer, Jeremy “BorticusCryptic” Randall.

Each strike from a barrage is powerful alone, but a ship unfortunate enough to be caught in multiple blasts probably will not live to see another battle

Oh well i just respawn and fight again :P

Cryptic missed a golden opportunity to call the lead Vaaduar "Cobra Commander"

Really hoping those ships and those weapons, the space ones with the special arcs and armor piercing damage, and the ground ones with their nice visuals (especially those assault weapons. the minigun and the shoulder mounted one) make it into a lockbox soon. Y'all knocked the Vaadwaur design out of the park on all fronts.

Also, did I notice that one of the ground character models has a backpack that looks suspiciously like it's part of the Omega Rep Armor?

For as much effort as you guys put on the Vaadwaur you should have put equal effort into the other DQ races. All the ground content is exclusively Vaadwaur, you don't get to fight any Kazon, APUs, Hierarchy or Hazari on the ground. I don't think the patrol grind would have been so bad if the content had been diversified more, instead every mission was to simply blow up waves of annoying Vaadwaur ships with an occasional Kazon or Hazari ship thrown in the pile. Quite frankly I'm sick of the Vaadwaur already and am quite certain I've wiped them all out with the amount of them I've killed

I'm going to assume there are technical reasons why it can't be done but I would absolutely love if our boffs' AI could be updated to be on par with the Vaadwaur ground forces. Their ground AI is so far beyond anything else in STO right now, it really highlights all the flaws in the boff AI.

Why did you doubled the HP on the borg ships in khitomer vortex advanced. Its an hughe difference with the former elite one.

Very good write up. I'm looking forward to facing them in the near future.

I love to have that double barrel looking ground gun to use. :D

The Vaadwaur are great not because of bags of HP and firepower, but because of the tactics they use.

I have noticed SIGNIFICANTLY better success with well-timed CC and keeping moving instead of sitting in one spot and blasting, and I've changed my build accordingly.

The Vaadwaur, IMHO, are the best, most tactically adept threat STO has thrown at us to date, and I can't wait to see more of them.

But I agree with the guy upthread that I would love to fight other DQ races on the ground. Especially Kazon. Make them complete incompetents and make their XP reward negligible and I'll still happily blast them into oblivion for hours and hours.

definitely the best npcs so far, with the most innovative approach and style.

i don't recall ever seeing any of their ships in a siege mode, probably a spoiler for their playable ships out of their eventual lock box.

I like the ground design. You did really get the feeling of fighting a villain from another era.

Lets hope so :D

I have to admit it too that the Vaadwaur had proven to be the most fun enemies so far in DR. Love to "dog-fight" them in space, and even if they have great abilities they dont spam them too much and are not annoying like other races found in DR. Found hirogen and hierarhy soo much annoying with their sub-nukes and placates, even 2-3 times in a raw becouse they are comming in packs... so a sci team will help you little...
And Vaadwaur ancor has counters, in pilot specialisation ;) and I think on the delta alliance core (not sure yet tho...)

And on the ground I just dig that "steam-punk / 1st word war" look. Very well done.

Yeah I have a contradiction to alert Cryptic too in the form of the vaadwaur. Apparently these blogs say there are about 500 of them left but yet I have killed 1000+ of them so this can't be right.

With the acquisition of mysterious and powerful new tools and energy sources, which they’ve used to enhance their otherwise aged and outdated technology, they have rekindled their campaign of warfare and subjugation, and once again threaten to engulf the entire Delta Quadrant.

Which is never explained and the devs will say that it's going to be part of Season 10, even though it should have been part of the Expansion.

I figure that the Vaadwaur are the most challenging foe I have faced. Ive had to redo missions out of shear frustration that I cant beat them. Good work guys, keep up the great work.

really hate how the constriction anchor cant be countered by polarize hull plating

and their ships are far too durable

Looooock boooox! Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme! You people don't understand. I'm never excited about the ships in the lock boxes (the only other time being the Temporal ships) but I NEEED THESE.

Also, agreed with others. They have some of the best AI in the game in space and ground and I can only hope that some improvements can be made to other mobs and my Boffs (like, can they at least crouch when I do?) and I'd like to fight more DQ races on ground.

I'm usually very indifferent towards lock boxes; but the design of the heavy artillerie ship makes me look forward to a Vaadwaur lockbox. Hopefully they feel as durable & terryfiing when commanding one as they does when fighting one; and not like something armored with wet paper ;)

Vaadwaur is the best that STO have done so far. I found Takedown space battles and comments from enemy really interesting. I have methods up my sleeve to take them on in space.

Cannon Barrage
Once one of the best kept secrets, but with my experience in this game now I can see how I can get around it, and stay in one piece and still take down Vaadwaur.

Constriction Anchors
Sneaky weapon that so tiny from a distance and yet so effective in space. Snags you and your stuck right? Nope I can get it out of it then blow it out!

Tactically just have to know what your dealing with after you have the first encounter with it. Then you learn and test like I do what will aid you in the battle.

Vaadwaur has one weakness in space and I see the same for the ground too. Although the AI on the ground is getting smarter too. I guess you have the game system can learn which weapons are more effective on target.

Drones
Ground Vaddwaur Leadership uses these they like the anchors snag you too. I have to use the right pistol to pop them out.

I am sure we haven't see the last of Vaadwaur even after Takedown Mission left with Cliffhanger.

It does not attack the physical element of the ship, it constricts the space around it, or hence what is occupied in that said space. And yes, very durable but beatable... rework your ship traits to be more effective.

I like the Vaudwaar design, very WW1 meets steam punk.
The pistol Gaul likes to use looks very similar to a C96 Mauser and the emphasis on artillery strikes and cannons give them a certain 19th century "wet" navy flare.
Of course, space is an ocean, after all. I really dig this old-school design.
Plus, pretend there are no warp nacalles and these their utilitarian ship designs would fit right into the ME universe.
