Getting Lobi Ships and Tier 5/6 question

Hello.
So I've been saving Lobi for a while like a lot of people. I get it slowly and have been taking a long time saving it up looking forward to a Lobi ship. The only thing is, now that I finally have got enough Lobi saved up (over 800 anyway), the Tier 6 ships are out. So now I am not sure if I should get a Lobi ship or wait until more are released.
I am a player that still has most Episode content to play through. I became interested in PvE Fleet Actions and have been doing those a lot and hit 50 before I was even halfway finished the original first episode because I kept doing this extra stuff.
To know what I like to play with, my interest is mostly in Science ships, though I also am interested in Carriers. I like having Carrier type pets even if the ship may not be a Carrier itself. I'm more interested in different abilities than straight DPS. I like Science because of the Exotic abilities and little extras. I absolutely loved my Multi-Mission Surveillance Explorer (Vesta) - it was a Science Ship with little Danube Runabout pets and a great extra Hull and Shield Heal that would hit you and all allies around you for some time.
Now that Tier 6 ships are out, is it worth getting a Tier 5 Lobi ship still? And this is a question being posed as if I probably will never have the Lobi again to buy a second one (I *might* but possibly won't, and so we should pose this as if I won't). I'm not that worried about the Intelligence skills as although they are neat and sometimes amusing, they aren't really that much more powerful or anything to be the deciding factor.
I'm not really interested in the one Tier 6 Lobi ship that exists (Hazari Destroyer?), though I'm sure in the future more will be there. I see it's 900, and I assume any new ones will either be 900 or 1,000 or something, prices I will be able to save up to get. Should I just wait for new Lobi ships to be released? If I do that, how long does it usually take for new ones to be released? Do some come with each new Lock Box, and is that about every 3 months that we get the new ones? Should I just wait to see what else gets released for new ships there? Would you wait if you could only get one Lobi ship ever?
If I had saved up the Lobi months ago I'd be getting a Lobi ship for sure. I don't know if that should change now that there is a new Tier. T-5U are missing a ship mastery level that T-6 get correct?
If T-6 is the new direction maybe I should just wait and see what else comes along, tho waiting for 6 months or so doesn't seem like something I would really be interested in doing.
Is this the best place to be asking a question like this, or should I be posting somewhere else to ask?

Do I want a Captain Trait?
That's what the Tier 6 ships do, give you Captain Traits. And with the new Tier 6 ships, they're nice, but Lobi/Lockbox ships makes it harder to spread the love to other captains. T5-U ships are still as useful as they were before.

I'm still going to gather information for a while and try to decide tho. If I do decide to get one of the current ones I'll try to see if I can test them on the test server first.
There are a number of good choices there for what I like, it's just that it's hard to decide if I should get one or wait since Tier 6 came out. So I guess my big decision is if I should wait to see if more new ships are coming out, and how long that usually takes for them to release them. Is it every 3 months about? That's just a guess by me looking at how long the last Lock Box lasted so I was wondering if that was the average or not.
Thanks so much for the replies. I'm trying to gather all the info I can before spending as it took me a long time to get the Lobi. There's a *slight* chance I may buy a Lifetime Membership if they go on sale for a good price in the future, and if I do that I won't worry as much as I'll get more Lobi in time. But for right now I have to look at it as if I get to buy one Lobi ship ever.
I guess I also have the option of maybe buying one and selling it to see if I could use the money to buy a Lock Box ship that isn't for sale for Lobi - if the prices are similar. I've got a while more to research I think. Thanks again for the help so far
Unless the ship you want to fly is Mirror Universe - those can't be upgraded at any price.
