Beam Overload - Is it Broken?

I hover over beam overload III after activating all my buffs and I get a base damage value of around 14000 - With a crit severity bonus of 80%.

When I fire it in PVE against an enemy NPC shields it barely does any damage (3-4000), against the hull though it can do more than 40k.

Anyone else notice this? (I use fire on my mark as well to eleminate damage resistance)

    You need to account for damage resistance and falloff.

    BO dose a far higher % of its potential when your right up in the enemies nacels.

    BO was nerfed several dozen patches ago.

    Changed would be a better word. Although the damage was decreased, the garenteed crit and lack of weapons energy drain opens up some opertunities with it that we did not previusly have.

    In fact the shield penetration doff for it works a lot better now, as previusly the duration of the debuff was too short to properly exploit without compensating for the weapon power drain.

    Sorry, so Beam Overload requires you to be very close and strip away damage resistance in order to work now? Can someone comprehensibly explain the mechanic as the wiki doesn't have any of that?

    What's your Power Transfer Rate: 100%?
    Increase EPS levels and see if that helps you out.

    Why would EPS be related to beam overload?

    I'm not sure but I think critical hits only work against hull (and armor in ground).
    I've been wanting to do a full research on this for a while now. Might be worth investigating.
