The Daystrom Institute

I'm planning ahead for a mission I want to make, once the Foundry downtime and republishing period following the release of Delta Rising ends. This mission will feature the Daystrom Institute as a major location the mission will revolve around. As such, I'd like to ask some questions about it.

Has anyone already made Daystrom Institute maps, and if so, what did you choose to make?

My hope is to not only come up with an outside for the main building (the main facility) and some internal layout of it for the aforementioned mission, but also provide these location and map designs (and any related characters) for other Foundry authors to use in their own missions.

One of my ideas for my next mission is to create this by using the SF, Earth Starfleet Academy Map and seeing if I can exploit the glitch on the other side of the bridge. I planned on building a skyscrapper... Basically, you can use glass assets from Details, floors and columns using the Building tab, and put people and items on Y-Axis placements. Make sure you do each floor correct before moving on... it's a b**** to fix Y-Axis issues with the 2D toon tool they give you.

There's also some nice ESD Starfleet corps of engineers glass in details.

To be honest, I would have rather built the new WTC in New York for one of the missions, but it wouldn't have looked right without backdrops of say, the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building. Unfortunate.

    I might still build Paris.

I haven't seen anyone do a Daystrom Institute map, and it was never shown on the TV shows, so have at it :)

Wait, hold on... we have the Starfleet Academy map in the Foundry now? When did this happen?

Actually, I created a portion of the daystrom institute, namely the special projects division, where they do the top secret research. It's part of my next foundry mission, and it's currently published as a map test under the name cleaning a slate map test. It's a fully customized sky castle map, which is right at the object limit. You're more then welcome to have a look I'd love to help you with yours.

    You're kidding; right?
I have the map in a mission I'm working on.
Only problem is that it's a Cryptic Map asset...so you can't add to it; it just redirects the player to one of the actual instances of the actual SFA map, and parses the appropriate interact prompts/waypoints into their own personal coderun..

    *sad panda*
"Join Date: Jun 2012" Says Cryptic's "new" forum system. I've been here since a week before launch, but SOME stuff just didn't carry over through multiple system changes/updates.

That's what we usually mean when we say a map is "not in the Foundry" we mean that although you can set some objectives on the open game world version, you can't take it, put it in your mission and add objects and npcs to it.

Well i may have my Star Trek canon wrong after all this time, but i vaguely remember that Daystrom institute was a orbital facility (when talking about maps) - and definitely not on Earth.

Just adding some random facts :-)
