Okay, enough with the doom and gloom over the new expansion. We all knew when it went live it wouldnt be a ray of golden sunshine. We knew the upgrading system would be expensive and we knew there was a grind coming. Lets put that all aside for a moment and talk about the GOOD we see in DR.
First off, I have only played to lvl 54 so far. I currently fly a T5 Galaxy X for my engineer and a Scim for my Tac and have my game setting on elite. I tend to take my time and not rush things as to enjoy the story. Ive just completed the mission where we meet the unknown alien enemy (lets try to avoid spoilers for those who want to be surprised, ya?) and I have to say, so far so good. I will admit I dont see why the Voth, for example, are so much stronger now than they were before but I wont argue it for now. Instead I will rate what I have seen so far based on three simple categories: Story, voice acting and enjoyability as far as the episodes go.
STORY
So far I have not been disappointed. From the first time we meet up with Tuvok and the Voyager the story feels well fleshed out and. I would have liked to explore the interior of Voyager a little more but in the end I was satisfied.
My first encounter with old friends was interesting, especially during the first patrol mission you receive. Fluidic space is nasty. A nasty, nasty place some things never change.
As we continue and meet another familiar face the story still feel organic and enjoyable. The Talaxians we meet are interesting, if not complete idiots. Youll see for yourselves and Ill let you make the call on that. For me, I just wanted to slap a few of them around.
The Borg. Yup they play a somewhat significant role in the Delta Quadrant so if you were bored with Deferra runs and wanted to see new Borgies, you wont be disappointed.
All in all, as far as story goes, 4 out of 5 stars for me.
VOICE ACTING
No spoilers, the voice actors were announced before the launch.
Tim Russ is Tuvok as Tuvok can be. I was never a fan of his acting so I cant really give him kudos here.
Jerri Ryan plays Seven of Nine as she did in the show: annoying. I know she was supposed to come across as indifferent due to her assimilation and time with the Borg but she always came across as b!tchy to me. That doesnt seem to have changed.
Robert Picardo as The Doctor. I like him as an actor in various roles and have always thought he has a decent voice for voice over work. The problem is, The Doctor has only one range and, like Seven of Nine, I find annoying.
Garrett Wang as Harry Kim. Ill be honest, my meeting with him at this point is incredibly brief so cant really rate his performance so far.
Ethan Phillips as Neelix. This is a hidden gem! Believe it or not, the Jar Jar Binks of Star Trek is, by far, the best voice actor to date, within the expansion and beyond. He captures Neelix pitch-perfect and I found myself actually enjoying his dialogue. I have a feeling well see much mor of him in the future.
If there are other voice actors from the show, which I believe there are, I havent come across them yet.
3 out of 5 stars (4 out of 5 for Neelix)
ENJOYABILITY
This, I will admit, is relative. As I said, I am currently using a T5 ship (Ill be getting the upgrade tonight) and play on the elite setting. Frankly, its tough. The drops are low (MKII at best) and the ships that attack you are not only stacked with health and hull strength, but are numerous to boot. In one mission I had to fend off 3 sets of carriers before taking on the Command Ship. If I didnt have a hangar and Elite Delta Flyers I probably would have died a lot more.
Fighting stronger enemies on an advanced level and reaping little to no real rewards can be frustrating and I think herein lies the biggest disappointment in Delta Rising. I dont mind a challenge, but I do expect to be rewarded for taking that challenge. Extra XP is great but Id like to see more decent drops form it. And this is just in the episodes! I dare not to even attempt to elite STF in my current ship or at my current level and, frankly, I would discourage anyone from attempting them until they are lvl 60 in a T5U or higher.
Overall, 2 out of 5 form me.
So, on average, 3.0 out of 5 stars for the expansion so far.
What about the rest of you? Some of you have gone further. Without spoilers, whats your take?
You seriously should post a Spoiler warning up top...
Because of the obvious lack of this, I vote your review to be bad.
Bad review... Do not read.
Yeah... that's why A: I didn't post any spoilers that haven't already been confirmed by reading Cryptic's updates and B: asked no one else to post spoilers as well. =/
Spoiler Alter : The Story is fine so far ... just don't get how 600 Vaudwaur with Ancient Tech would be a real Threat, and I already killed 200 of them ... unless they've build a Clone Army within the last 30 years, I don't see how this is happening ... I guess ICONIANS, that's why ... but I'm just Level 53 ... so lets hope they'll close that giant plot hole somehow ...
... well as I said Story is ok, but ~10 "real" Missions for an Expansion is a sad joke, we got 3 times this many with LoR ... same with Ships + ONE new PVE Queue ? ... come on what happend ... it looks like they fired half of their staff between LoR & DR ...
... it wouldn't be that bad if the Patrol Missions were any fun, but all I got so far follow the same Modus Operandi .... Scan / Talk to X Enemy Y shows up ... repeat 5 times ... nothing original like Diplomatic Mission, Escort Missions etc ...
With all the massive Grind between these 10 original Missions, I don't see myself doing it on more than one of my toons ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.

I think that's because Ethan has a very expressive manner, which comes across in his voice mannerisms, and also the Neelix character is also expressive and extrovert which allows him to embellish the role somewhat.
I have to agree though, his voice overs are far more engaging and less "stilted" and stiff than the others.

I'm personally disappointed with one aspect, they introduce the whole intelligence side and yet they haven't added one intelligence gathering mission to the game from what I can see, just completed the Kobali prime mission, which is just a little bugged I mean I had to only change instances about 20 times to find one where I could complete the mission :P
If you are going to add a whole new aspect to the game at least add some missions that use it.
This game is in need of more diverse mission content, and it probably needs a new game engine to allow that to happen.
TBH the last time I had to grind mobs to level up was in 2005 in the yeti cave of Winterspring. TBH I frakking thought we have left behind those bad times. I thought it was dead and buried for good.

Sadly I'm beginning to think this as well.

That's the only bad surprise for me so far.
