Impressions of DR so far

I really like the story. The actual voices add SOO much to the gameplay for me but I have run into a number of problems.

1) The dialog boxes where we are talking to the NPCs often times have very little detail. The faces are plain and looks like half sculpted clay. Other times I noticed no background.
2) There were a number of cut scenes where the mouths didn't move at all during dialog. This really ruins the immersion
3) I don't mind that it is harder to level now but there should be content to fill the "gaps". I feel like I am grinding WAY too much just to get to the next level.
4) Tried an Advanced Infected. Total waste of time. The difficulty is no where NEAR the old elite. It easily felt twice as hard if not more. Died twice where I almost never died before. Fail one objective, fail mission = total waste of time. I think we got 10 marks for 15 minutes of play. Don't think I got any dilli at all.
5) One of the reasons I came back to STO was the increased dilli payout. Things that required hours upon days upon weeks of grinding just to make dilli so you could buy something we so tedious and boring. But then you actually started giving a decent payout for doing activities you would normally do while playing the game. It stopped feeling like grinding and it felt like it was just something that happened. I looped 4 of my friends into playing specifically because of this. But now it feels like we have moved backwards. I really hope this changes because it has kept me and my group of friends engaged.
6) My T6 Faeht is super squishy. I have decent gear, rep sets and fleet gear but still seems to get ripped up.
7) The Advanced difficulty setting is a joke. The content is doable solo but tedious. The rewards are TERRIBLE. Elite difficulty is even worse. Takes forever to down a single ship and I am still getting batteries from an Elite Battleship that takes 10 minutes to kill. DO NOT WASTE your time on either of these gameplay settings until they fix the rewards. The one thing I can say is you get a little more xp. I even did a mission on Advanced where you had to disable Borg and some other race...took about 40 minutes, zero loot and zero xp since you actually don't kill them. Mission complete = 944xp!! Again, total waste of time. A mission like this should realize that you are not getting xp from kills but the ships are WAY tougher and the final mission xp should be increased. Again, I cannot recommend this enough, DO NOT PLAY ON ANYTHING HIGHER THAN NORMAL SETTINGS because the rewards are not worth the time.

Overall I really like it. I just hope you put some of the "old" back in with the "new".

hate to add this, but ...

is this maximum graphics settings or custom settings?

not worried about it myself, but it might help others understand what you are seeing in game, and possibly identify the issue. :o

I'm also getting very tired of missions that don't reward squat for xp because I'm simply disabling ships and not killing them outright.

As for difficulty - I've been playing through on elite and while things do feel like they take a tad longer to kill than I'd like, it's not outrageous. That said, I'm in a ship pulling between 20-25k in the average STF.

I think DR is crazy good. But I'm only at the beginning. This is now a true Star Trek game. Cryptic really got their ****s together. VO is world class of course, story is very ok so far. I bought the Phantom for my fed, and the enemies are ok so far.

This expansion is 10/10 so far.

Ive been playing the story on elite done the 1st 3 missions on 3 chars and only had one blue drop n that was mk x

    i like the new story
i hate the new advanced content as they have buffed every things hp way too far my ship are a mx of mk xii rep sets n mk xiii fleet consoles.
I did do cse before the fleet tac consoles came out in a 2 man team with 3 mins left on the optional clock so im no nOOb.

Advanced should of been the old elite with no changes i wont be doing the pve missions with the changes that are in place at the moment.

Time to start cashing in my rep marks for dill so i can upgrade my stuff.

Playing the missions on Elite is probably the only way to play so you don't have to grind so much between levels but it is very hard to justify when you:

    1) have missions where you just disable things and get ZERO xp and
    2) you get NO better loot than running normal.

Someone mentioned they got a single blue MK X. I think I have received 2 green MX XI items so far and I'm 54. Something is must be wrong because the reward payout cannot be this pathetic on purpose.

+ Missions are fun so far ...

    - not enough of them, only ~17 (less than half of LoR) ... thus, you have to replay old & generic Content to get to the next Level ... (let's do "Spin the Wheel" for the 800th time yippie)

=> was expecting something on par with "Legacy of Romulus" ... but afaik it's only half of an Expansion / glorified Season, so pretty disappointed tbh ...

the patrol missions are really boring, i'm lvl54, and i have already done 3 patrol missions (each time 5 systems all around the quadrant). more exploration, more exploration, less fights, less fights

It might have honestly been smarter for Cryptic to have split things like the level cap increase and PvE queue revamp to something separate from an expansion's content (missions, VO, etc.) for both budget and bug-squashing reasons.

However, in my opinion, DR is a mostly successful expansion launch. I'm enjoying it, outside of pretty much every Advanced pick-up group failing within minutes. Mind you, if people knew how to play the maps and build ships, it wouldn't be an issue, but being realistic here, expecting people to do that in what is largely a casual game doesn't make sense. The new Elite? DPS maniacs can keep it. But Advanced needs some work, as do the rewards scale for all queue content.

Instead of making single ships gigantic HP bags, I'd settle for same-as-before HP, with more ships tossed in. At least that way, you feel like you're making progress. Advanced ends up giving you both, which is kind of hard to justify. Especially compared to previous Elite, and especially because it rewards less.

I honestly don't believe that the previous player economy was too rich and required a culling, like this seems like it's designed to cause. We've still got the 8k refinement cap for dilithium, so even assuming a higher reward rate, the economy wouldn't flood. I really don't get the point of the crappy rewards on way tougher content. Not if the devs want to keep player base, anyway.

Again, the bulk of DR is good to great. I enjoy the added story content. I even bought the DR pack and am currently enjoying the Intel Escort and crit-shotting past shields with a 2-min phaser lance. But there are things that are marring the experience significantly from a long-term perspective, and I can't find any good justification for it. It's fixable. Easily. But we just need to see one response from the devs:

"We understand your frustrations, and we will be looking into making adjustments in the near future."

"We understand your frustrations, and we will be looking into making adjustments in the near future."

Well I think they have said this in a manner. They did say they were going to be looking at the stats and the queues and the difficulty. So we can expect that to change.

What I don't understand is the decision making that goes into making something harder, with more rigid requirements, and 1/2 the reward. Why not leave the reward the same?

The main reason I got back into playing as much is because the rewards for playing seemed like a great balance of playing the game vs. grinding. They feel much more grinding now which really turns me off in any game.

At least the servers seem to have been stable so far, and I have not experienced most of the graphics issues others have reported (although contrast & saturation seem to have changed). Lag does not seem to have gotten any worse, but still excessive in most social zones. Added lag to crafting UI's is another Cryptic fail, though. I've not visited enough of the galaxy to give a definitive read, so I'll just say that the release is pleasantly functional, so far. :)

Also wanted to add a few other things:

    1) The xp payout for Normal vs. Advanced is 194/233 for a standard difficult kill. The added difficulty with zero loot benefits just doesn't justify playing in anything other than Normal.
    2) Firing Y axis arc on the Faeht romulan intel ship with cannons is VERY tight. The nose of the ship has to be pointed almost DIRECTLY at the enemies to fire properly.
    3) Grav Well is almost useless now as almost all ships can out run it and it may just be me but the aftershocks don't seem to work and they wells themselves seem to last a much shorter period of time.
    4) Battleships out run all heavy torpedoes...perpetually. The are also as maneuverable as a cruiser.

I'll add more as I come across it.

Delta Rising = 'Beta Release' Rising = Patrol Missions Rising

Seriously the amount of bugs is ridiculous for the amount of time they had. And these new 'missions' are nothing but unimaginative and repetitive patrol missions, and the little ground content added is also dull and with no enemy diversity... the voth are more of a challenge on the ground. Very dissatisfied with DR :(

    Impressions? lol....

Its the worst release ever. Poor writing, horrible stories. Neelix ones are the worse, I want to burn neelix with fire.

Not to mention the bugs, and more balance issues.

It's a f**king disgrace to the players, beta-testing their TRIBBLE AGAIN. They never listen to players on tribble.

Almost hilarious how they got rid of these "Kill 5 of ... Exploration Clusters Missions" ... because these missions were not up to the Standards ... just to reintroduce them in DR ...

If the Advanced queues weren't so fubar, it would be great. That is about the only problem I can see.

Here are my impressions thus far, bearing in mind that I'm just dipping my toe into the story.

    GOOD:
    • Mindscape was an awesome mission with cool graphic effects. It accurately captured the feel of some of Trek's "mind TRIBBLE" episodes. Well done.
    • The voice acting has thus far been excellent, and in particular Ethan Phillips and Jeri Ryan both, basically, knocked it out of the park. I wasn't amazed by Picardo's contribution but Neelix actually came across as legitimately good-natured and charming in a bumpkinish kind of way; the character irritated me in the show but a lot of that was downplayed here.
    • The new Delta Quadrant map is kind of cool, and the new music we hear when we hit DQ sector space is suitably epic.
    • I like that leveling isn't just a throwaway thing once you get to this point. (I've made it to 53 on just one alt and I'm in no hurry to blaze through the content.)
    • The new enemy groups have by and large been excellent, and a worthy challenge. I liked dealing with the Kazon because fighting enemy carriers was a nice novelty, and the Vaadwuar present a whole new type of challenge that has in some ways been missing from STO.
    • I really, really like the aesthetics used for ground Vaadwuar. They remind me of TRIBBLE aviators.
    • Some of the new gear seems to be neat. I like the transphasic cluster torp a lot. Just what I need for the rare occasion that I point my cruiser's bow at the enemy.

    BAD:
    • Advanced PVE queues. The increase in difficulty is simply too extreme at this level, and most of it has to do with the insane number of mobs on the screen and the excess of HP they have. I've been trying Infected space advanced repeatedly and even when I join a high-DPS group that should have been able to beat the old elite queues, we can't beat the mission. Even when we blow a transformer, clearing the ensuing nanite sphere spam takes us so long that we end up having no chance of blowing the second one and killing the tac cube and gateway in time. Massively increasing the difficulty is bad enough; halving the rewards feels like insult has been added to injury.
    • Everything costs. The cost of building up to the top gear has increased a lot, and rewards have gone down. The dilithium costs of upgrading even part of your ship to Mk XIII, even with improved tech upgrades, are extremely prohibitive. And with rewards from PVE queues so low - and higher reward queues made so impossibly difficult - it appears much, much more difficult for casual players to work their way to elite gear.

On balance, the good points of DR are good, but the changes to PVE queues are such an overwhelmingly negative change to the game that, for me, they undermine a lot of the enjoyment I've been getting out of the expansion. The new queues have been advertised as a means of gaining experience between story missions, but normal PVE queues hold no challenge or reward for me and don't award the tokens you'd need to get rep gear, and advanced ones are simply too flooded with 5x HP mobs to be doable by even PUGs who know the 10% rule.

Agreed.. apparently no one spellchecked the missions, and the quality of the voiceovers is kinda wonky.. to me the Doctor sounds drugged out and Harry sounds like they recorded his VO at a bus stop. Nothing against the actors, they did their best.. when I heard Seven use a year instead of a stardate my heart sank a little bit, not gonna lie :(

It has been a lot funner then i thought it would be, not the tyrant is was being woven into, it is really great so far, (and yes, the but...)

Some players forgot how it used to be, things have to be more carefully fought then before, but done right, and if people group their ships up right in most cases, there is a great run for everyone. some of the stuff just takes a bit longer to kill.

It will get easier as you get new weapons and gear
