Anti-Extortion Procedures

lystentlystent Member Posts: 1,019
I've read about how there is a new trend of people threatening to halt a PvE unless they get paid. I wish to post this an approach to combat this trend, follow if you wish:

1: Warn other players not to pay the extortion person. Remind fellow players how the mission is not worth it.

2: Remind fellow players not to harass the extortion person as this may get them into trouble. Tell them to report to GM instead.

3: Report extortion person to GM. That is the best you can do, really.

What branflakes told me to do when reporting people to GM is
1 put ur time zone e,g for me UK gmt
2 time n date e,g 9:10am 9 oct 2014
3 mission name e,g forums anti-extorion procedures
4 what they have done e,g repeat thread

DONT COPY AND PASTE SWEARING OR IT WONT SEND IT.

4: In case of Borg STF, ask who is willing to sacrifice their PvE rights for an hour for their toon. This first leaver get the penalty. The second maybe. It is suggested that the people who are willing to play as alts should go first. Secondly, or if no one else has alts, you leave the map. If you and other people have alts, you leave first.

Surely the extortion person would not get a leaver penalty, but remember, he gets reported to GM, and he fails to get his pay day.

Yep, just like trolls playing football in KASE. Times like these are when open PvP would be quite useful, they cant grief if they are looking at the respawn timer.

Welp, looks like I'm going to fill up imgur with screen shots, hopefully the GM is liberal with the ban hammer on this issue

Heh, I am glad a lot of my runs are with my fleetmates. I can promise you no one from Saint Olivia fleet is or will be doing this. We are above such childish things. And if someone tries to do it to us, pfft! We can usually 2-3 man most runs anyway so not like it will hurt.

Still, this is yet another black eye for the community and I will certainly report anyone I see doing this.
No, I am not who you think I am. I am someone different. I am instead a banana.

I'll put a message out to my fleet. If you run into this, remember their name and post it in open chat so everyone knows. Scum like this are why game communities get so bad. Let's Mame sure these losers not only get called out but banned permanently.

If somebody tries this with me, I'll just laff at them, report them, and leave the instance.
There's plenty of other things for me to do in the game that will keep me occupied until I can do another PUG STF.

It is after all, just a game and my life doesn't depend on me finishing any part of it, at any specific moment.

True, but I sure love to be instrumental in having their accounts permanently banned and all assets lost.

Sure, they can create a new account to extort other players again if they wish...

    5. Just afk yourself, watch a movie/play solitaire/grab a coffee and simply turn the tables on them. If they'll have to wait for a while and still leave empty-handed, they'll think twice about pulling something like that again.

The report button is useful for griefers like that, i report them then leave the instance on the principal

That is my tactic also. I will not contribute to someone elses gains for griefing.

Well, i have to say if the reactions of the people in this thread are typical of STO players, I'll have to start doing this myself.

I haven't come across this yet, hopefully I won't but as I carry enough firepower to save optionals in the missions I do play I'll just ignore them and carry on.

In the case that was mentioned in the previous thread about this, your fire power would not help you.
The extortioner had found a way of physically stopping people from moving into the final area of the mission. (I won't say how they did this, don't want to give anyone ideas)
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.
