I haven't (re)played them yet, but yes, I did forget about them, however, and I think I know the answer to this, but are those missions faction specific, or are they (as I suspect) catered to the FED and tweaked for the KDF?
They're written to be faction agnostic. I've played them as both and didn't notice a difference.
The problem with this, is that they are making a casual game and making it into a hardcore game.
At least the game will remain useful for me as a free role play platform...but otherwise, I'll be spending 20 dollars to buy the new TOR expansion. How much money I'll give to Cryptic? Around 0 dollars. That's all you need to do folks.
You like it, you give money. You dislike it, don't give money.
Never thought I would live to see the day where STO is becoming more of a grind than TOR without a subscription.
This game's PVE is no longer worth playing for me. PVP is even more expensive, so I'll stick to free roleplay. I'll most likely have to go trough the story missions once for the sake of knowing the story, but that's it.
Also, the purple upgrade gears are ridiculously EC-costly.
Because... you need to get materials from Elite ques for them. See the problem? To have the weapons to beat the elite ques, you need drops from the elite ques.
In a normal MMO, you play X instance to get gear for Y instance. Here you play X to get gear for X. DURR HURR!
Or buy zen, get keys, sell keys, buy materials. OOoooh wait, that was intended.
Let us wear Swimsuits on Foundry maps or bridges please! I would pay zen for that.
It's not that hard. There are several ways, another is to use the R&D mission at the Academy.
also I'm pretty sure that Advanced will at least have a chance at dropping purple materials. Not proto-tech, but still useful for gear upgrades. Advanced will be about the same as the current elite. AKA a cakewalk for any good player with good gear.
You know ... I saw this happen and thought it was weird too: To be better at fighting Voth in the BZ, I should get gear to help fight the Voth ... which requires me fighting Voth. So now that I have the gear ... I don't have to fight Voth anymore.
So that means you can show up in an atrox, as an engineer, with stalker fighters and kick butt on new-elite?
Even with an upgrade that's still just 3 tac console on there so what's going on? Is the conclusion that carriers (with the right pets) are overpowered and t6 ready by pets alone?

Wasn't there a suggestion that pets auto-levelled?
Please stop pretending that the upgrade system is some massive money sink...
Please, stop pretending the upgrade system is anything BUT a massive money sink. :P
Let me put it in simple terms. Heretofore, say, a 'best' MK XII Shield costs like, what, 37,500k Dilithium?! Now a 'best' Epic Gold Mk XIV Shield may be closer to a million Dilithium (or more even, depending on how that RND is going for you).
Though it will undoubtedly generate revenue for Cryptic from those people who are too impatient in their epeenery and must have everything right now like any typical Me Generation kid...
The problem with this ''people who are too impatient in their epeenery" mantra is, that you fail to look ahead. It's not like the game will be stagnant for the next 10 years, giving us years of leisure to slowly upgrade. Instead, come 6 months, we'll see yet another expansion, putting current stuff even farther behind.
Wasn't there a suggestion that pets auto-levelled?
They do, but with increasing rarity they also gain new and/or upgraded weapons and abilities. Fleet quality seems to be the end point. While I use carriers all the time, I haven't looked at the pet items in a long time, I think they are UR now ?

Since Elite pets are 'Fleet quality' already, they best upgrade to something better.

New season in 6 months, yes. New expansion in 6 months? I don't think so. We didn't get word of Delta Rising until 7 months after Legacy of Romulus. I think it'll be at least a year before we hear about a third expansion.

Expansion/Season, whatever. Point is, we don't have years to upgrade our gear at our leisure. And, realistically, even upgrading 1 single wep to Epic Gold Mk XIV may take well over a year. Which would be fine, like I said, if the game remained stagnant for the duration. But we'll certainly have T6 Fleet ships by next year, and Lord knows what else that obsoletes (yes, there's that word again) our current stuff.

I do not think we'll need to wait a year for T6 fleet!

Please elaborate, I'm curious how you came to this conclusion.
It's quite simple really. The missions and cutscenes in question are all about exploration, research and keeping the peace (best they can). There's very little about honour, or fighting to the death, or the principles of a warrior etc, at least, as a player there isn't.
I suspect the missions are created with the FED in mind, and then tweaked to include the KDF and Republic.
Well, Star Trek is Fed-oriented as a franchise. I understand the desire for equality in presentation though (if I may word it that way). It made sense for the game to open with that point of view.
Yet, there is an assumption that players want to play from that point of view. Take City of Heroes: when you played the game you were a "hero". Even anti-hero's (Batman) are still "heroic". It took years for Cryptic (?!) to make City of Villains, where players could play the bad guys. The point is, in gaming, players actually DO want to play "the other side" for various reasons.
No wonder the KDF faction is incomplete, maybe because it was not the intent of the original design to make that faction? I dunno. So, when Cryptic started planning for something big, I'm not surprised Romulans were chosen. yet, they could have spent the resources to fully flesh out the Klingons! No doubt, the vocal minority would b-I-a-t-c-h-e-d to the moon for that though. Now, a few people are asking about a fourth faction? Yeah, no. Stop and buff clean what you have, don't ignore it.
There had to be another faction. Question is if people don't play KDF because developers ignore them, us, we, or they ignore KDF because people don't play KDF.
From what I can tell in other games a lot of people just don't like the villain role, they'd rather be Prince Valiant I guess.
I think the KDF attitude is that a lot of people spent time and money KDF side who are dedicated enough that it warrents cryptic at least maintaining it as an equal faction - even if spending time creating a fed item would have made more profit.
Personally, I think all factions are getting the shaft equally. Probably you have a point as far as selling out the KDF faction with letting go of aceton and plasmonic (guess those ships dont sell no more) but in terms of other stuff, costumes for example, it's all going into lockboxes now for everyone.
And who told you people hates Neelix??. You got it wrong. Nobody hates him, its just it is a waste of money and resources for cryptic's part. Neelix was not hated, but he wasnt an appealing character. And i liked him, but i liked other characters far more than him, actually almost all of em... that money should be invested on fixing bugs, for example. Nvm, that is just a dream..:P
Some of you guys are going to be really upset when Mk XIII and XIV purple gear starts dropping early on into the expansion and you realise you've just wasted a load of resources and money on upgrades you didn't need.
Wait for release. It's the most risk free method of playing.

except that they are eliminating most loot drops from the places you get good drops. If they did exist I could see a purple 14 beam going for 100 mil.

Unless Ultra Rare Mk XIII rep gear and Mk XIII Ultra Rare Lobi consoles start falling from the sky, chances are most of my upgrades were justified.
Also, I doubt Mk XIV gear will drop rightaway, as you won't even be able to use it yet, I think.

Do you really think it comes down to, "We could've fixed those bugs, if only we didn't pay Ethan Phillips"? :P

Geko has stated that a "few" missions will give XIII gear and that is it. Don't expect XIII or XIV drops. Why would they? They made this system to encourage Zen buys for dil conversion.

I literally *hated* Nelix.
He was the Star Trek equivalent of Jar Jar Binks.
Mesa thinks you're right. :P Nah, Jar Jar Binks was far more annoying (and just plain childish). At least with Neelix they tried... kinda.

Do you have a citation for this? I find this number doubtful.
Anyways, AFAIK, mk13 and 14 gear will be lik mk12 used to be, IE, it only drops from specific things that are coded to drop it.

Probably true, but it will also, eventually, reward patient players for far less.
