Flying Winged Races

patcrowpatcrow Member Posts: 89 Arc User
I wished that the programers could add some flying creatures to the game. Birds pets are nice but we need something new. How about adding the Skorr from ST:TAS. I think an updated version of this race would look really cool.

If you mean playable races, any winged player characters would have to have their wings permanently clipped, to keep the game from being horribly broken.
You're right. The work here is very important.

It could probably be done for NPCs. It can't/won't be done for playable species for the same reasons they won't let us use jetpacks everywhere.

Playable characters I don't think could be included. But they had fish aliens, on TNG. Why not have bird aliens?

I could definitely get behind winged NPCs. Combat against them would be pretty entertaining.

It'd be just like fighting the Swarmers on the Dyson ground battlezone. But they won't have jetpacks being used, and that being said, they won't have any like systems being used either. It's not the engine, its the limited maps.

In general, I'd say that's too much tech for something that would only work on a limited map.

I guess maybe I could see it if we had a big Xindi Prime/Preservers themed adventure zone with the return of the Avians as a hostile group.

You could have a flight enabled single adventure zone with winged enemies. For players, it's too tricky.

yes.. the swarmers in the dyson sphere battlezone are amazingly entertaining enemies to fight...

No. No they aren't. As all STO ground combat, they are as boring as any other enemy. Flying does not grant the usual FPS boon of high mobility and ambush angle attacks. In Sto, a target is selected and a button is pressed, the attack homes in and only stats decide whether its a hit and for how much.
The only input that really matters are power activations and perhaps dodging. Now, if STO had a more FPS like ground combat system a flying race might shake things up. But right now, a big old "meh" is all you would get for it.

    All right, I'll revise.

    It could be pretty entertaining.

In UIE, Undine like to get stuck in the cave ceiling. That's pretty close right?

I think it'd be fun to do it though! Gives a whole new meaning to "Making it rain!!"

Eh, I don't expect anything like flying to ever happen here. I just want to play as a Skorr.

It would be nice to have winged races; moreso if playable or at least available as a BOff, even if wings will only ever be decorative due to current limitations/lack of time preventing a functional flight option on-foot.

Before we get into the argument that it will just turn the game into a Fantasy game with Star Trek elements, plenty of them can easily fit into new alien species. In fact, the Alien race option should allow for some really unique race options, whether it's a giant, winged, scaled, humanoid Dragon/Gorn hybrid or a dwarf-sized pixie (wielding a BFG thanks to combat armor/SCIENCE), as well as anything in between. Additionally, the Alien race option should also include more skin and species head-design types as well.

It sounds really cool. However the game isn't made for flying everywhere. As it would take a lot of work to make it happen. Just something I don't see this game doing unless during a special place or mission.

We can't even walk around in EV suits outside our own ships for crying out loud. I loved that borg fight scene on the Enterprise E. I would love to do more of stuff like that.

The flying enemies in the Fek'lhr arc are just annoying, they add nothing to them.
