Title says it all.
PvPers spent and will spend a lot of money/time on this game and we deserve this much.
As it stands now people are quiting PvP(read: STO altogether) because of very time consuming upgrades, reps, and R&D..
More PvPers = More Players.
More Players = More money.
Less = Less.
also things to look into while you're at it:
- PvP only rewards for finishing a regular PvP match, more titles, more accolades etc.
- PvP Leader boards and leaderboards based balancing system
This a very good idea. Everyone can be happy playing how they like.
That is the whole point of custom games.
In a mood for 5v5 all sci game? all escorts? warbirds vs BoPs? limited gear? limited rep? unlimited?
this got you covered.
Also, few maps with obstacles or hazards would be nice, like with asteroids, or even indoor map would be nice to test piloting skills.
It is not much to ask to give PvPers something, because, Cryptic, you are losing playerbase.
look into it.
Cryptic priority is selling gear boxes, and specifically not retention. Vanilla queues are counter to both of those.
That isn't completely true though.
It is clear that our friends at Cryptic have been busy trying to duplicate aNets Crafting / market system... which they have done a pretty good job of so far.
Now to copy the rest of anets system where you can infact sell stuff and not be providing direct advantages... well ya that isn't ever going to happen.
However they could easily copy a GW2 Style PvP mode... at this point just adding some of the options to a Custom Que (no need to touch the public que)... would be a nice gesture. Its also something we KNOW they are capable of doing with minimal effort. Bort had mentioned the possibility of doing things like adding stats ect to players while in pvp maps ect, less then a year ago or so.
anet makes a lot of money selling PvP cosmetics... no reason it wouldn't work here as well. You telling me you wouldn't drop 500 zen for a Camo Pain Skin ? or 1000 zen for an annoying KDF / FED / ROM Logo PvP Fireworks display.
There are ways Cryptic could make a ton of $ with super low effort on there part... and its the type of game play that keeps butts in seats.
On the other hand, well, the devs have PvP in the very bottom of priorities in this game, and this new yearly expansion focus makes things worse.
Things they know they need to fix, but are left broken in the interest of time and profits:
1) Exchange - It's very very buggy right now, I long for how it was a couple of seasons ago.
2) Doff system - They have stated the crit logic needs fixing. It would work great with their new doff picking system, but it would take as much time as the AI fix. The 5 second quick patch for frozen assignments is the crappiest piece of code ever added to the system. The new UI still needs adjustments.
3) Horrible AI logic - They could make an awesome AI, but they choose to leave sci captains as worthless for PvE and just make enemies damage sponges with beams.
Like I said, the idea is very very awesome, but I've been around for long enough to know they will just keep on pushing stuff that generates revenue and more players in their eyes versus what actually would do it.

Thank you for reading.
This is what we need for PVP in this game. People can join in whatever kind of pvp that they like.
I would certainly play alot more if we had something like this.. also i know alot of people that would play alot more.
It would also be easyer to ease new people into pvp with a leaderboard based balancing system. Atm as a new player to pvp, you get thrown into the same instances as veterans, that may or may not show any form of mercy towards a new player... most because they have no way of knowing if they are newbies or not...
Also, having some sort of gearscore settings in the private queues, would make it easyer for people that wants to create restrictions on gear. Then everyone can join in the kind of pvp they want to take part of.
I really hope they will provide us with something like this in the near future.
"Better were the days when mastery o' space came not from bargains struck with eldritch creatures... but from the sweat of a man's brow and the strength of his back alone. Ye all know thi's to be true!"

And if they want to play -in your words- "scrub" level games?
The system the OP describes is so vague that it might actually enable players to ban clicky consoles or limit certain kinds of ships. Make up your mind please.

Vanilla queues satisfy just one side.
Custom queues satisfies everyone.

They have been testing it internally for so long, they are just having way to much fun with it. ...inetrnally

If DR has shown us anything, it's that PvP doesn't factor into their gameplan.
