Which 'On Sale' Ships to buy for Console Unlocks, etc?

forcemajeureforcemajeure Member Posts: 212 Arc User
Was looking at buying a Guramba, but getting pretty close to talked out of that.

However, in conversation regarding this with the fleet/help channel, it was recommended that I should probably buy the Vandal Destroyer to unlock the Plasmonic Leech console for my 3 KDF captains.

Are there any other ships that are strong contenders for 'buy while on sale, even with DR coming'?

Thanks, appreciate any advice or tips offered.

EDIT: Adding a summary below for new readers, which ones do you feel have the most value for the zen?

Some results from this thread, forums and in-game discussion:

(Note: I have 3 Feds, 2 Fed-Rom, 2 KDF, and 1 KDF-Rom)

SHIPS worth considering just to have the ship:

Scimitar Dreadnought Bundle - 4,000 Zen
Avenger Battle Cruiser - 2,000 Zen

Ships for Consoles:

HIGHEST VALUE
KDF - Vandal Destroyer/Plasmonic Leech - 800 Zen

Rom - Valdore - Shield Regenerator - 800 Zen

Tempting Treats
KDF - SuQob - Bio-Neural Warhead - 800 Zen
KDF - Draguas - Aceton Assimilator - 1,200 Zen
KDF - Ch'Tang - Subspace Jump behind target - 1,200 Zen
KDF - Ning'Tao - Quad Disruptor Cannon - 800 Zen

Rom - T'Varo Light - Reboot Singularity - 400 Zen
Rom - T'Varo Light Retro - RedBallOfDoom - 1,600 Zen

Fed - Oberth Light Sci. - Enhanced Plasma Manifold - 400 Zen

Honorable Mentions
KDF - Vor'Kang - Isometric Charge - 2,000 Zen

Rom - Dhelan Warbird Retro - Sabotage Probe - 1,600 Zen

Fed - Assault Cruiser Refit - Wide-Angle Quant Torp - 2,000 Zen
Fed - Bellerophon - Nadeon Detonator - 1,200 Zen
Fed - Thunderchild - Phaser Point Defense - 800 Zen
Fed - Armitage - Torpedo Point Def - 2,000 Zen

My valuations are tilted towards "things that can be used on any ship all the time" and away from "useful but situational". If you have any recommendations or comments or additions, reply in the thread and I will try to update once more before sale ends.

I was thinking about that BoP for the quad cannons , but don't know the upgrade possibilities or if you can equip more than one.

Plasmonic leach is very good. I would recommend it. I wouldn't really bother with anything else though, unless you really like it and/or think it will improve your build.

You can update them, the first is free (from leveling to Mk XII).
You can only equip 1 (haven't tried to equip Plasma and Disruptor/Phaser Quads at the same time).

For KDF, I'd recommend the Vandal Destroyer for the Plasmonic leech. It's an account unlock for your KDF/KDF-aligned Rom a console that otherwise costs 30-40m EC on average per piece (on a Federation-side character).

Federation side, the Thunderchild class gives you a Point Defense System console that is pretty useful addition on any ship (especially so when Delta Rising reduces the CD from 3min to 2min).

Romulan side, what most people suggest is the Valdore because its console grants a passive shield heal, which even after nerfed is still very useful. But I will recommend the T1 T'varo as I personally love its console, an immediate "hot restart" to your singularity powers after you have just used them.

    Just my 2 cents

I will be buying the Vandal as well.

The T3 Valdore Warbird that comes with the Shield Absorptive Frequency Generator. There is basically a 2.5% chance your shields will regenerate shields when you fire your weapons. The chance for regeneration will only occur when shield drop to 90% or below and the amount of shields healed is equal to 2x the amount you damage. A pretty interesting console, but I only have one Rom toon.

Otherwise, the choices aren't very good. There is a Fed/KDF point defense console that can shoot down torpedoes or be used against other ships / fighters. I forgot the name of it and which ships you need to purchase. It sounds cool until you find out it has a 3 minute cooldown....

If I can grind out the dil necessary to cover 75% the Zen for the B'rel Retrofit, then I will buy that ship just because it is a BoP.

If I decide to create a least another Romulan toon, then next year when there is another sale, I will consider purchasing the T3 Valdore for the console and the T'Varo Retrofit... unless by then there is a T6 starship with an enhanced battle cloak that outclasses the T'Varo Retrofit.

    A good list.

I'd add the T1 connie for unlimited blue mk XII retro phaser beams, upgradable.

The quad cannon are upgradable, so worth considering.

The Tvaro T1 and T5 are also worth it for the set bonus, imo.

Ya, the PD console cooldown is a killer- but comes in handy in 'the Vault' against shuttles.

The Wide Angle Quantum from the Assault Cruiser.

Defiant or Dreadnought for the Cloaking Device.

What about the Enhanced Plasma Manifold from the Oberth? Kinda Like the RMC.

If your lifetime, dont buy the Defiant/Dreadnought for the Cloak... you can pick a free T5 ship and you can get it then... unless you want to use the fleet version for the reduced cost in ship mods.

but since there are better escorts out there...

    Plasmonic leech - Vandal

180 degree quantum - Assault Cruiser

    Valdore Console - Valdore

Fed Cloak - Defiant retrofit (if you really feel you need it)

Either of the Point Defence Systems - Escort Carrier refit/Heavy Escort refit

Various ships with quad cannons which can be upgraded.

T1 Connie has nice blue phasers that can be upgraded.

Impulse capacitor from the Gladius is fairly useful.

To be honest as the cooldowns on console abilites are pretty much all comming down to 2 mins most of them are going to become a fair bit more useful. Not many are outright I-win buttons but if you are considering them as part of a build maybe now is the time to get them?

The armitage torp spam console is fun, especially for a photon torpedo boat.
For the klinks, I found the enhanced induction coils console from one of the bops (the B'rolth I think) to be fun for my decloak vapers. 135 weapon power as well as something like +35 power per system is fun!
CD's are always the killer though :(

No mention of the Draguas for the Aceton Assimilator? Unlike most other consoles it has a short cooldown (45s? 60s? I just know its always available when I want it), you can have two active at a time, and its a constantly-on area-denial effect. I normally dislike clickies for taking too long to recover, and in PVE there are so few targets that alone warrant using That One Special Console, but the Aceton is more like having an extra boff power than just a gimmick.

and pray you get a bump to VR with an [ACC] mod, because as theya re, they are about 13 DPS less than a corresponding mk XII beam array, and IMHO the CrtH mod is about the worst

They said all the clickies are being reduced to 2 minutes, so that presumably includes the Torp PDS. Of course the Torp PDS can only be used on the Armitage, so not as flexible as the energy-based one. (Though damn a full Torp PDS volley in a crowded environment is just a sight to behold)

    DPS is not the point.

    Sizzling blue, TOS-era beams are.

    Now with added endgame viability.

A few hours left to the sale, so far decided on:

    Vandal Destroyer for Plasmonic
    Valdore for Shield Regenerator

    Seriously tempted by:
Draguas for Aceton Assims (at 800 Zen it would have been a sure thing, 1,200, hmmm)
Scimitar Dreadnought bundle 4,000 Zen OR
T'varo T1 and T5 2,000 Zen (Scimitar bundle for 4K is looking better there I think)

Many others are in the "oooh want shiny" category (Wide-Angle Torp, Bio-Neural, Subspace Jump), but I held off because they just don't seem widely applicable enough. That, plus looks like I am spending 5,600 zen already.

Thanks for the replies and the tips, this was a really good chance to look over the various ship options and see what is out there.

I looked at that pack, and if you consider the Lib. Borg officer to be worth 400-500 Zen then it means this ship combo is in effect always 'on sale'... so deferred that purchase til I rebuilt the Zen balance a little.

    Good tip though and thanks.

Hmmmm... none! Had I known the ship sale was only going to be 20%, I would have taken advantage of the Lobi sale instead. Besides, chances are good that a FE in the new release may lead to a new ship, so I'll wait & see. And don't forget that the Winter Event is only a couple of months away; a ship grind is a normal feature of that event, as well...
