Is it worth buying at the $10 dollar reduced price during the current ship sale?

The big question is, do you want that ship for any particular reason or you just like it?
If you want a science ship, just buy the Vesta pack (best science ship on the market and by far far far better than the dyson destroyer). If you dont want a science ship, dont buy the dyson pack. If you want a mix, hmm depends. If you are not going to a proton build, dont buy the dyson pack. If you going for a proton build, buy the dyson pack. Hehe..
Just piggy-backing on the OP. Why makes the vesta so superior to the Dyson destroyer? Just curious because looking at weapons, consoles, turn rate, etc. they look fairly similar. Is it because the Vesta has a hangar? I'm still new to the whole science gig, so if it's something really obvious, I apologize .
As a science ship its kinda meh since it only has two upper-level sci slots instead of the usual three (which screws up a lot of build possibilities), and totally outdone by the Vesta. In tac mode its interesting, a sort of sci-heavy escort that can get by on only 5 tac slots so long as you have the right doffs to make the most of it. However in that same role, the free version will be getting a free upgrade to match the tac-cstore-version plus the ship-leveling stuff, making the free one superior to the store-bought.
What it means is if you're gonna run it as a sci ship, Vesta does it better, and as a tac ship, free one does it better. Either way, its not really worth paying for unless you really liked the consoles in Step Between Stars and/or plan to upgrade it to 5u.
I've had the Vesta Pack since the day it became available.
Was just curious if the Dysons were a good match for an Engineer.
(which I forgot to ask in my OP) Duh...

I don't think so. That said, I am not really sure if there is a good fit for Engineers, since I find their powers a bit underwhelming in the usual scheme of things. Too focused on self-healing.
I suppose the Engineers energy boosting ability (EPS Flow?) would be neat to manage your energy levels, but to my taste its cooldown is too long to be relied on.
I like the Dyson Science Ship on my Romulan Science Officer, but the Romulan Dyson ship looks also pretty good (unlike the KDF/Fed ones), and the Romulans don't have many options (and the one they have is not very manoeuvrable).
In my experience, Engineers and Science BO powers work relatively well together on Carriers, since the Science Captain main ability (Subnucleonic Beam) is difficult to use on slow-turning ships, and the Carrier itself can't maneuver out of tight situations so easily, so a bit of extra heal-power can become important.

Nope. I've tried using the 9-console event DSD on a KDF engineer and that didn't work well at all. There's almost nothing to it which combos well with Eng abilities and it doesn't accommodate high-level eng boff powers. If you're a sci captain looking for a bit more tac there's a point, and even if you're tac looking for more sci you can have some good results, but in generalizing between the blue and red it completely leaves yellow out.
Fed Engs might want to consider the Tempest or the Avenger instead (depending on just how much Tac you want/need) or you could hold off until the Eclipse or Guardian (which will offer up starship traits even if you don't end up using either as your primary ship.)

I'm confused by this, how in any ways will the free one be superior to the C-Store one? It's weaker in every way...i
Shields, hull, and consoles...and no the free one doesn't get a 4th tac console...everything I've read says a Engineering console.

Anyway, the engineers that made those ships should be fired. Somehow they instantly became obsolete even if you could fight the Voth with them.
