So I'm totally not excited about the Rom tier 6 ships. But I fly a fleet D'deridex and it seems like all the ships are focused on the escort theme of pew pew and less defense and lacking large imposing Warbirds.
Right now I'm showing my support with my wallet and not buying any upgrades or the T6 ships. I will wait until cryptic starts to release something that looks interesting to play. As a lifer I can always come back to the game if and when it looks like something I will enjoy.
Come on cryptic make something that will give me a reason to hand you more money.
I think the Aelahl has a lot of potential. Really looking forward to seeing the specs finally.
As for the Faeht, it's a really cool ship but it doesn't play well with my sci captain. It'd make a fine addition to a tac captain's fleet, though.
Either way, it's probably good that the T6 ships aren't generating an instant "OMG MUST BUY" feeling in a lot of people's minds. There was so much fear that T6 would kill off T5... so seeing that T6 isn't in fact leagues ahead of current endgame is a good thing.
The Aelahl Light Warbird Battlecruiser is a Tier 6 ship created by the Romulan Republic to fill a need for a more agile battlecruiser. The Aelahl is less durable than the D'deridex, but significantly more maneuverable."
The description is not that exciting to someone that uses a D'deridex. I'm going to need to see the stats and where does it fall as "less durable". Right now I find the D'deridex to be a light tank, damage deal and very middle of the road in a lot of things. But wonderful overall and the newer version losing some durability worries me.
I would be more excited to see a heavy tank focused or even a balanced T6 ship as an evolution of the D'deridex and Ha'apax vs another basic damage dealer that follows a focus more to an escort.
Do I think we should see enough T6 ships to make everyone want to buy at least one? Heck ya, as we are moving the timeline forward and showing the advancement of tech. That being said non of the T6 ships I have seen makes me want to spend money on them over the stuff I already have.
Also all the T6 ships they have shown are only slightly better then a T5U.

That's rather the point. They've said they don't want the T6 to be a "must-have" and I think they've hit that target fairly well.
As for me, I'll likely buy the Aelahl when it hits the C-store. Seems like it'll at least try to fit that "battlecruiser" niche that the Mogh/Avenger has defined, and the shots I've seen of it look very nice.

There are a couple T6 ships Fed-side (Guardian) and KDF-side (Mat'ha) that I want, but I'm with you OP, I have no interest in either of the T6 Rommy ships. I'm planning on upgrading my Mogai and D'D to T5U instead.
Consider the currently shown crop of Tier 6 intel/non-intel ships as the equivalent of 9 Console C-Store ships to Tier 5.
T5u ships barely can compete with the ceiling of progress current T6 ships offer. People forget that: The highest forms of the best of the best of T5 ships can barely keep up with them. Then there's the expected crop of T6 Lobi/Lockbox ships that you know will come. Just like the Fleet versions of the current T6 ships. You KNOW those will come too, and the Devs have stated that fact to occur sometime after DR releases.
As for the Aelahl, my guess is that the Fleet version, on top of the usual version buffs, will get a +1 TAC Console Slot.
Just as an FYI, I know a number of folks get this wrong so I don't judge: It has piqued your attention. A peak is a summit, and while logically that makes sense (your interest has reached its summit) this is not correct. "To pique" means to stimulate, though, so as you can see that makes more sense. In old terms, one may have been left piqued, which indicated they were tired/exhausted after a stimulating experience. Though no longer used you may read that as "You look a little piqued" in some older literature.
As for the OP, I really must agree with you. Aside from the over-boosted general stats (hull/turn), they really aren't that good. In fact the "intel" ships look rather bad, both visually (*vomit*) and layout-wise. They're a major step BACKWARDS from the universal boff seating options we have right now.
I have almost no interest in any of them. The only one which initially caught my eye was the Rom warbird. I only just started a rom toon and got it to 50. I'm not liking the ship options, to be frank. I was interested in a fleet DD but it's just so freakishly slow. It's like a Borty for the KDF. It would only be flyable as a FAW beamboat, and I have those on my feds. I wanted to run something different while keeping that amazingly iconic visual look of the DD.
I was hoping with the improved turn rate that the T6 Rom warbird would allow the visuals of the DD -- or at least a very close variation of it. Instead, it looks more like the raptor ships in looks. It doesn't float my boat at all.
And to anybody wondering: YES, looks make a difference. You could have the most uber ship with the best stats and best everything on it and if it looks like utter garbage I won't fly it. Period. I have my standards. Picking the visuals for your ship's parts went away when Cryptic stopped caring, so all we have left is to judge a ship on its fixed single-piece hull options. If the visuals suck, I won't use that ship.
In this case, the visuals are wholly unappealing on TOP of the other lackluster options tied to the ship. So I'm not going to partake of the T6 ships. None of those shown so far, at least. We'll see what else Cryptic can come up with since they have promised more ships to follow. Let's hope they're not as ugly as those we see now.

I'd disagree with the "barely compete" line. It's a fairly straight trade of a Lt Cdr slot for an extra console, whether that's a good deal or not is a function of the BOff / Console layouts; in most cases Lockbox ships still win, esp. when special abilities come into play. For example, the Dauntless and Scryer don't look like they can compete with TIF on a Temporal Science Vessel, while neither the Mat'ha or Phantom is the equal of the JHAS as a dogfighter.
Everyone is now murmuring about T6 Fleet Ships, but again we've no idea what those will actually look like. They may just be BOff layout variants for example.
Can't say I'm particularly interested in either myself, the Faeht is basically a T6 T'varo and the Aelahl doesn't really interest me beyond the Starship Trait.
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

Yea, other than their respective cap stone traits, they're basically just more of the same ships we have. I understand there is probably a limit to what we should expect, but I don't see why we couldn't get an honest to god battlecruiser like the mogh/avenger. Heck, the guardian, that ship looks pretty amazing, just port it over, put a singularity core on it and make it look like a fancier d'deridex, done.

Considering the development history of STO, I highly, highly doubt those Fleet T6 ships will merely be a different BOFF layout. They'll follow the formula of fleet improvements.
The only thing T5u has in general against the current crop of T6 ships is +1 Console Slot. That's it. As per the reference here:
It's not even a contest. Yes, the current T5u ships will compete with T6. But over time, there's just so much more room to develop with T6. Change is coming. Those expensive ships and the ones that have been sitting on the top of the throne for so long are about to be dethroned. Not right away in DR's release. But it's coming. All the signs point to it, unless true T6 versions of existing T5/T5u ships occur.
--- And *if* it did occur, it would be hilarious for those that bought T5u to now have to buy a T6 version of their existing ship LOL

I'm liking the Aelahl. It's the first Cryptic Romulan design I like and I think it actually follows well from the design of the D'deridex.
My fleet DD will always be my primary ship but I'll be picking up an Aelahl for a cannon/plasma build to add some variety.
Uh... say what? They straight up copied the White Star design from Babylon 5. Nothing really original about it, and IMO doesn't follow from the DD at all.

You obviously need a vision check, it doesn't look at all like a White Star from any elevation, but it certainly has a very Romulan look when you compare it to the DD (they both have a similar head on profile), Ar'Kif (they look almost identical from the side view), and some other fan/Older game designs. In fact if you took the bottom wing off it would look remarkably similar to the Raptor and Shadow classes from Armada. Top Down is the only angle that the White Star even looks remotely Similar, yet the upper wing of the Aelahl still maintains that very bird like quality you expect from the Romulans, while the White Star has that very aquatic alien look you expect from Minbari design.
